So I don’t understand all the hype around Patrick Cripps and why so many people are locking him into their sides.

Never played a full season
In a team that is expected to struggle
Coming off an injury riddled season
Relatively inexperienced with only 59 games under his belt and only once averaged over 105
Only 9/15 were over 100 last year & only 4 over 110

There are so many other players around that price range that are more durable, more experienced, proven  history, playing in better teams.

Can people please explain?

Remove the game he broke his leg. 105 average. Young and can improve. Cheap.

I personally think in the sub 550K price range he is the most likely to go 110+ along with Hanners and Parker. I think Cripps is a much safer bet personally as he is going to be the number 1 mid at Carlton and is going to breakout at some stage. I haven't started him because I am going for top 5 mids from the get go and I have him around the 10-15 mark.

I think he is likely to go 105-110 which is a good enough average to warrant a start.

For another 30k however, you can get the likes of Beams, Selwood and Bontempelli who I all think are safer picks.

FYI it is 103

He is $540k, definitely not cheap as that is a 98 implied average.

Yes he is young and has room to improve, but it is a big risk to expect him to come straight back from a knee injury into a weakened side to average 105-110. Even if he does he won't increase that much in price unless he is averaging 120 so you would still be able to bring him in fairly easily.

He still had 3/14 scores sub 80 excluding the injury game. So while he has a good ceiling he hasn't yet increased his floor.

30k is chump change to move up to these more solid guys.

Beams has more upside but is also a risk.

Jelly you can pretty much lock in 105-110 but he is always a shot at getting knocked out and having a shocker.

for me Bont is a no brainer over cripps. 105+ last 2 years, hasnt missed a single game and has only just turned 22.

Maybe an upgrade option later in the year if he is going to be as good as a lot think but as said by others there are a lot of players in that price bracket that I would go before him

You'd have to be a no brainer to pick Bont with Stringer, Cloke and Crameri gone. Wonder where he'll spend a bit more time. Boyd is only elite in finals, Schache could spud. Tory Dickson as a cow is alright but the forward line is poor and Jong won't cut it as the 2nd tall.

Doubt the doggies would put there best midfielder in the forward line unless it is to give him a break. No point in having him forward if the dogs are going to get smashed every clearance.

Redpath
Boyd
Trengrove
Roughead

are all capable of playing as a tall forward at the top level and you only need two of them.

You also have an abudance of the small/medium forwards that will rotate between midfield/forward.

Dahlhous, McLean, Hunter, Macrae, Jong, Dickson etc.

Agree MS can't see Bont's role changing at all to good in the mids to be plonked in the FWD's for long periods

I would agree, I feel it would be Macrae, Wallis, Hunter Dahl from the mids that would be most likely to move forward. You don't play your key mids are key forwards except for as resting.

With you on Bont or if funds available Zerrett.

He's been in and out of my side but I'm starting to warm towards Beams or Bont

Same been in and our of mine as well,  but because of Byes looking at Merrett or Bont although more expensive. Probably means a total rejig of rookies to fit but like the look of a midfield of Danger, Dusty, Mitchell, Fyfe, Merrett and Beams.

SilverLion

Will finish the year 600+ if he stays on the park. Therefore has to be a lock given his starting price.

Cripps you mean? Personally, I'm not going near him this year (at least for my starting team). If he is killing it for the first month or two, then I'll consider bringing him in.
