After a lot of tinkering I've found what I think is a pretty well balanced side that suits byes well. 20k left in the bank and if a few more defender rookies pop up I'll certainly be open to trading Birch down and upgrading O'Meara to Coniglio or maybe a super premo if I can find the money elsewhere. What are your thoughts?

Nice side, whats your reasoning with Merrett? I personally like the look of a MCrouch/Duncan/Zorko over him.

Money Shot

I personally think Merrett will do better than all the players you have mentioned SL.

Merrett is going into his prime in a team that will be winning more games and I think he will score around the 111-113 mark.

Duncan will have Ablett, Danger and Selwood to compete with for points and although he will still score well I do expect a slight drop off.

Zorko has been tagged out of games in the past and with Rocky gone he could receive more attention. Again I do expect a 105-110 average which by no means is a bad pick but just think Merrett will outscore him.

Crouch is a good pick and I was considering him but he shares what is turning into be the dreaded round 15 bye that has turned me off him as I would prefer Danger, Martin and Fyfe over him and don't want to be starting 4 premiums from the same bye.

All fair points, but I also see Merrett as more of an outside player who is dependent upon the guys inside to get the ball out to him, whilst the others I mentioned are not. That being the case, Merrett is easy to tag out of games (happened multiple times last year) and is more likely to give you a shocker than the other 3. Of course he is also capable of racking up 40+ and going 130+ in SC consistently (I would know, he helped win me my final last year), but just am not sold on his consistency at this stage.

Fair enough. In all honesty if any of the above players are picked im sure that they will not disappoint. Only one I have my reservations on is Duncan.

Yeah I can see why, another player who'll be watched closely in the JLT due to the inclusion of Ablett.

Disagree on that. Merrett had one poor score of 67 for the year and every other score was above 83 so he has a very high floor. A few frustrating scores in the 90s but he's young and improving so think he can get better.

I tossed up between him and Crouch mostly but he has a better bye. Zorko in the same bye was considered but he's actually more prone to a few shockers

Peter

So you think Zaha, Heppell, Smith, McGrath won’t at leadt keep his average in the 90’s?

Didn't realise he only had one sub 80, guess its due to all those 90-100 games which were very annoying.

Agree though that he has nothing but upside from here.

Zaha is a 90ish avg player
Smith is a 90ish avg player
McGrath maybe 80ish
HepD should go 105+

I don't see how they would keep Zerrett's avg below 105, let alone in the 90s. Would back him in for 110.

Peter

With Essendon’s harder draw and how he went against the harder teams (probably just a perception watching the Dons), I will back in Martin and MCrouch to score more

I expect Dusty to average more but he costs more and has the same bye as a lot of other popular players, Crouch included.
At one point I had Danger, Fyfe, Dusty and Crouch  but then realised they all share the round 14 bye

quinny88

Plus it is a misconception that he went poor against the better teams. His sub 100 scores came against
Carlton x2, Collingwood, Melbourne, Brisbane, North, Bulldogs, Suns.
Richmond the only top 8 team he didn't score 100+ against

Peter

So at least 8 times went under 100 points. Can’t see him being top 10 then as Dons have harder draw and more player’s trying to get midfield time, let alone Goddard and Hurley

Money Shot

Personally think he is a top 10 midfielder and not a bad pick at all this season.

Danger, Dusty, Titch and Fyfe all 120+ candidates.

Kelly, Zorko, Crouch, Sloane, Merrett, Bont all 110+ candidates.

Obviously a heap of other 110+ candidates but those 6 are most likely imo.

Merrett would be my 6th picked premium midifeilder. Only reason he is not in my team is I have started my predicited top 5 midfielders come seasons end and I have him coming 6-10th.

9 scores under 100 and 5 of those were in the 90s, 3 in the 80s and just one bad score for the year in the 60s
