Happy new year all!

Another year, another team, the withdrawal shakes are starting to leave, but my skin's still a bit itchy...  ;D

First crack at names on paper:

Hurley, Laird, Lloyd, Birchall, Richards, Doedee, Murray, Goddard
Danger, Dustbin, Titch, Zork, Fyfe, Griffen, Rayner, LDU, Wigg, Freeman, Worpel
Gawn, NicNat, Hayes
Heeney, Billings, Lobb, Christensen, Higgins, Ahern, Venables, Garlett

28,900 to spare. Rookies obviously placeholders, and I've gone with Rayner and LDU as they're pricey, makes for easier changes if/when needed.

Question for those people who follow closer than I do: Are there any rookie rucks looking like they might get a gig yet? I've gone with Hayes as he's the R/F closest to the bottom of the list :P but given that I don't have an R/F up front I could go with a playing R3 if there's a good option.

Not sure on Laird, Griffen or Christensen, and might try to work in a JPK or Parker into the mids - perhaps instead of Dusty or Zork.

In regards to your questions, Sadly there aren't many cheap rucks that look like playing early. Hayes is extremely unfit and along way off AFL level. English from the doggies is a chance to play some games although he looks destined for 50-60s at best which is not really anything special. Darcy Cameron seemed to be close last year so keep an eye on him.

Laird will be a top 5 defender even if he does drop off slightly so he is a safe pick.

Griffen could be a really good pick as he is capable of a 100 average but then again GWS would be more inclined to give there youth a go ahead of him so just watch him in the JLT. He can be swapped to either of O'meara/Armitage or turned into a rookie so not a bad pick at this stage.

Again Christensen could turn into Bennell or Ah Chee quite comfortably so just watch there pre seasons and pick one.

I personally like the team.

Ringo

Like the team first up.

Rucks will be a set and forget given the absence of Rookies who may get up. I have gone with Olongo at R3 for floating donut/VC Loophole given the Eagles have 12 Sunday games. In saying that I am keeping an eye on McInerney who in my opinion may be called on if Stef goes down. Another to keep an eye on is English from the Dogs.

Just keep an eye on Wiggs injury as well.

Would not consider getting rid of Dusty though, Griffen can be a good pick though. "Bundy" Christensen could be a nice POD as well (Bias here though) as he will benefit from the beefed up Brisbane midfield and will enjoy crumbing from Hipwood.

Only problem I see with Laird is with Lever gone he may attract a lot more attention. Even though he averaged 100 his scoring dropped after Rd 14 with only 3 scores over 100.

Good start kiwi good backs like Lloyd myself good mids standard rucks FWD'S good also but just waiting to see if Lobb is going to be the stand alone ruck they also have Simpson and also recruited Keefe who is surprising big at 204 cm and 100 kg + and I guess they will be trialing things up till the season start but your on the board  ;)

Peter

Welcome back - no DPP ruck/forward set up this year as unlikely English will get a game with Trengove coming on board

SilverLion

Nice first team, good structure and well balanced. Nice team to sit on until the JLT I'd say, where we can reassess which mid-pricers and rookies we like for Rd. 1.

Post JLT round 1 team, moves more towards a GnR type team...

Laird, Hibberd, Lloyd, O'Shea, Doedee, Finlayson (Coffield, Murray)
Danger, Martin, Titch, M.Crouch, Fyfe, Griffen, Andrew Brayshaw, LDU (Clark, Kelly, Barry)
Gawn, NicNat (Cameron)
Heeney, Billings, Smith, Higgins, Ahern, Fritsch (Garlett, Ryan)

189k cash in the bank. Pretty happy with this for now, slight concern of a lot of R14 bye prems, but pretty hard to swap out any of them...

Team looks good, my only advice would be to see where you can save money on rookies, I always believe that for every 200k rookie there is a 117k player who can score similar and create more cash. You never know the 100k or so you could save could be the difference between an early upgrade or not

Just my 2 cents

Unless it's brayshaw  :P

feel like relying on rookies at D/F4 is a disaster waiting to happen.

Ringo

Nice team here

You have 4 top mid premiums.  Maybe downgrade one to a lower price and if it was me would chose between martin and crouch.  Using the cash you have upgrade in def and forwards.  Would definitely look at Christensen/dunkley in forwards and see what defenders you can get with cash left. Wait till we know which rookies are playing.

Maybe, more confident D4 can produce to be honest.

Thanks for your comments team!

Rookies are as always subject to being named round one. And I have stuck with a strategy of naming expensive rookies so that I can downgrade to cheaper options if needed, easier than considering which prem to cull when you need more cash.

It looks like there are quite a few defender rooks in the mix, maybe less so up front. Forwards is definitely where I will be investing spare cash if it's there.
Christensen is on the radar but honestly I think he's awkwardly priced. 3-5 years ago he was scoring good enough numbers to add 200k to his starting price, but big question marks over his durability, and his ability to score that with Brisbane. I think they're going to get pumped (sorry Ringo), and if he's only averaging ~70, that's only 100k on starting... Nothing to sneeze at but also not great. Needs to go 80-90 to really be worth it IMO. But that will be decided on how many rooks line up!

After watching Coffield last night I am becoming more confident in the Coffield, Doedee, Finlayson D4-D6 combo.

Ok, post JLT team is thus:

Possibly will swap Danger to Martin, but I need to make that call today. Right now, I'm leaning towards doing it, simply because as the highest price player he's has the hardest time to keep it there. Even if Ablett is playing forward, that's another big scorer in the side whose effect will be unknown, and he's coming off injury. No doubt I'll want both in the team eventually, just a question of who will be easier to bring in later.

Not crash hot on Christensen, but not a spectacular lot of options up front.

And Lycett obviously a risky pick, but it lets me do more elsewhere I'm happy about.
