2018 FF SUPERCOACH ELXAM COMPETITION AND LEAGUES

2018 marks the 8th year of the elxam comp!
On Father's Day 2010, fanfooty user elxam (the username is his name Max Le in reverse) tragically passed away....he was a father. He was fantastic person and contributor to the site and is still missed. This competition is named in his honour and has seen many of FF's finest coaches vying for the various honours up for grabs over a number of years.

If you want to be involved in this comp, you must have coach status on FF by having posted a 1000 times or more in counted sections (Dream Team, SuperCoach, AFL boards). That's basically anyone who can see the coaches section of the forum, plus those coaches who have deactivated their accounts, but once were coaches. Participants are asked to visit the "2018 SC elxam expressions of interest" thread in the Elxam/ Coaches part of Fan Footy :)... Coaches are asked to identify their team name when they join by way of making a post.....Then you will be added to list and asked to join the elxam group once SC opens.

How's it work?

Each coach enters into the Elxam Group. The top 16 ranked coaches based on overall points with the last 4 rounds of the year to go will play off in elimination finals to determine who is the Elxam Winner for the year.

Additionally there is also a Knock-Out Cup Competition, a State-of-Origin competition, the m0nty medal and a Champions League.

What is the Champions League?

The Elxam Champions League is filled with the most successful coaches from last year, and they play for the Champions Trophy.

How do I make the Champions League?

To qualify for the 2019 champions League, you need to do one of these things:
- Finish in the top 8 of the 2018 Champions League.
- Finish 9th in the 2018 Champions League (post finals)
- Make the Final 4 in the Overall Competition (Elxam group)...qualify Top 16 in the group then win two Head to Head matches.
- Be the Knock-Out Cup Champion (Elxam group)... Sudden Death Head to Head fixture.
- Win the premiership in the 2018 Elxam Challengers league which returns this year.
- Remaining spots filled based on where you finished on the points ladder in the Elxam Group at the end of the 2018 season

Fantasy Championship
Many coaches play AFL Fantasy, Dream Team and SuperCoach. This competition basically adds up your scores for the years to see who in the elxam league has scored the most points.

Elxam Challengers League 2018
Determined by 2017 Total Points placings after the Champions League spots were filled.
If coaches aren't able to commit or simply don't want to then their place will be forfeited to the next highest qualifier on Total Points. The premier of this league will automatically qualify for the Champions League as has been the case in the past when additional leagues have been run in Elxam. Should their be sufficient interest then a third league could operate but we'll have to see how things shape up.

2016 was errr rubbish to say the least. I think it was about 14k in AF, and something in the 30k range for SC.

I didn't start thinking about fantasy until a few days before the first lockout was  the main thing I keep telling people (But I need someone to study beforehand to do all the rookie homework for me :P), which meant less time for tinkering. I then just picked a few players in each line that I thought would be good (3,5,1,3 was the premium set out, the only midpricers I touched were Beams and Ryder, was never going near JOM, Swallow, Sandi). Then I picked the expensive rookies as they can be traded down to cheap rookies if I get them wrong (e.g I made a Simpkin to Houston trade after Rd 2) but if you pick cheap rookies and try to fit in another premium because of it, you have no wiggle room to go up if say a WHE type kills it early like in 2017.

Definitely wasn't a flawless year though, I didn't get Titch or Dusty until about Round 17/18 in SC. I had guys like TJ Lynch and Jack Steven in SC too.
