I'll admit, this isn't the FIRST draft I have made, but it's the first one I'd be happy to go into Rnd 1 with- obviously dependant on rookies.

Def: Yeo, Hibberd, Z.Williams, P.Hanley (D/M), Birchall, O'Shea, (Richards, Doedee)

Mid: Martin, Kelly, Oliver, Zorko, Z.Merrett, Armitage, LDU, Wigg, (Freeman, Kelly, Worpel)

Ruck: Gawn, Nicnat, (English R/F)

Fwd: Heeney, Billings, B.Ah Chee (M/F), Bennell, J.Higgins (M/F), Ahern (M/F), (Venables, L.Ryan)

Bank: $2,400.

No Danger. Basically it is Danger + Coniglio (130 + 100) v Oliver (115  + 115)+ Merrett. I figure Coniglio isn't a keeper unless he avges 105~. This means at some stage he is likely to be traded. So Going Oliver + Merrett saves a trade whilst scoring around the same.

I have also gone for Armitage over JOM at this stage. Both injury prone, but Armitage has solid scoring history compared to one good season for JOM.

Fwds are light on, but if Ah Chee can get big midfield minutes, and Bennell can sort out his injuries, they can both avg 85+ easily.

Nice team and structure, Some interesting selections but if we all had the same team that would be boring.

Lots of good picks.
The non Danger pick is the notable one but with the salary cap you can’t have everyone and you’ve justified your thinking.
I’ll be doing all I can to start him though.

crowls

your team is batting deep hoggzy.  looks promising.
without danger you run the risk of captain's dilemma.      yes, nicnat, gawn, martin, zorko and merrett all possible captain options but do you want to be relying on one of them to get you 130 when you need it.     danger is your 130+ and superhigh vc options in gawn, nicnat and co.      possible 16 keepers if birchall, bennell and armitage work out.

Danger and Coniglio is the option i would pick as you would also as you get the benefit of having Danger as captain pretty much every week.

Apart from that it is a great team and btw i also like the look of Armitage.

Few changes made, with a slight structure change.

Def: Yeo, Hibberd, Hanley (D/M), Coffield (D/M), O'Shea, Richards, (Doedee, Murray)

Mid: Danger, Martin, J.Kelly, Oliver, Zorko, Armitage, LDU, Wigg, (Freeman, T.Kelly, Worpel)

Ruck: Gawn, Nicnat, (English R/F)

Fwd: Heeney, Billings, Barlow (M/F), Lobb, J.Higgins (M/F), Ahern (M/F), (Venables, Garlett M/F)

Bank: $2,000.

Money Shot

assuming there are 5 solid starters that are under $200,000 this looks like a great side!

Like the Barlow and Lobb picks, think both could work. I'll be monitoring Barlow throughout the JLT very closely. Another team with both Yeo and Heeney, what is your reasoning for choosing Yeo over Laird? Are you concerned about Heeney not training until late January?

If Heeney plays Rnd 1, he's a lock. He had Glandular Fever last year and still had a great season.

Yeo- unlike Laird, Yeo will get midfield minutes. With Smith out all season, I have a feeling Laird will be given a little more attention from defensive forwards.

Fair points, it is going to be interesting to see how WC use Yeo this year.

Agree with Heeney being a lock round 1 if he is named. If he doesnt play any JLT games but still lines up round 1 he will be in my side.

However, Laird should be in your side in my opinion, yes Smith going out doesn't help but Gibbs will come in and play a half back/midfield role in my opinion. Sloane and the crouch brothers will take most midfield minutes with players like Atkins, Greenwood, Milera, Douglas, Mackay and potentially Ellis Yoleman rotating in their as well. Apart from Douglas and Mackay all players mentioned are either in there prime or entering it. Laird didn't get tagged last season and i dont see that changing this season.

Yeo a good pick as well though.

Def: Laird, Hibberd, Witherden, Hanley, Richards, Doedee, (Murray, Keeffe)

Mid: Dangerfield, Martin, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Brayshaw, LDU, Brodie, (Kelly, Worpel, Garlett)

Ruck: Jacobs, Gawn, (Olango)

Fwd: Heeney, Billings, Barlow, Ah Chee, Higgins, Ahern, (Venables, Ryan)

Bank: $1,400.

Atm I'm just having fun playing around with structures. With this one, I get 14 keepers + Ah Chee who could avg anywhere from 65-90 depending on midfield minutes.

I would love to run with 6 premo mids, but that requires downgrading a fwd and def premo. Which I think will leave Def and Fwd lines very vulnerable to donuts.

5 mids and 4 def/fwd potential prems is a different approach that warrants consideration. I get the feeling as we get closer to jlt or season we keep trying to maximise the number of potential keepers in our teams.   To achieve this we bring in mid pricers we have convinced ourselves could step up to prem def or fwds.  15 keepers is a big ask.

Like this team and can see reasons for each of your choices.  13 keepers should be pretty easy,  14 is probably what most people will class themselves as having.  15 is aggressive.

You have the runs on the board Hoggzy so maybe I should be looking at what you are doing and not commenting....

There is definitely 14 keepers here with Ah Chee a chance at becoming a keeper although unlikely in my opinion which is a solid start.

I only have 13 keepers+Birchall/Bennell but i believe my keepers will be top 3/5/2/3 in there positions come seasons end so I am happy to have one less than most.

As said previously, this is a pretty strong side with some nice players of difference. Like the Hanley/Witherden picks a lot and I hope they are nice pods for you.

Peter

If you had a look at Laird’s stats in last 10 games, opposition put a lot more time into him, so it may be a trend for 2018 - against that, Adelaide has a great opening 8 games
