Been playing around with things and this time I've focused on structure and rookies because I just don't know if there's going to be enough good ones come round 1, so I think batting deeper especially in the forward line might be the way to go

I feel like my rucks and forward line is 100% set now. If Lobb has question marks entering round 1 then I will replace him with Mitch Robinson or Sicily

The other option I have is that I can downgrade Sicily to O'Shea and upgrade Griffen to Cripps, but for the time being I think I prefer Griff/Sicily over Cripps/O'Shea

I'm comfortable with these structures, premium selections and rookie selections. Heater is the only premium that I'm keeping a close eye on - feel good about the rest

Bully

Both very good but 1 problem, Lobb may be out and there's really no obvious candidate. That's why I'm seriously considering Walters at F4. A little more expensive which may cause problems but the standout in the 450-500 category. If you want my reasoning it's detailed in my team thread. Otherwise bang on with my own team. Sicily I've given plenty of thought to and he's on the short list if Birch is out. I like your first team better because I'm not entirely sold on O'Shea, job security could be an issue which may cause problems. The fact that Sicily can be swung forward also adds to his appeal. Griffen a decent cow, especially now he's training with the backs.

Well done, we're definitely on the same page again this year.

I am about to post my update and my weakest line is my forwards as I’m confident in the value and the lack of any quality picks

Gigantor

Good structure if the rookie situation is average. Every year there is a doom and gloom phase when we all think the worst but rookies always seem to appear come rd 1!

Only 9-10 rock solid premo's is pretty light imo. Heaps of potential keepers that could burn you or set you up for a massive year.

I really hope we don't get to the point where we have to have structures like this because it will be a flowering roller coaster of a start haha

As mentioned, if Lobb doesn't get up then there's guys like Robbo and Sicily at a similar price. Could even go down to a Deledio/Ah Chee type if they look good enough. I like Walters a lot too, but my concern is that his role will likely change from week to week so we could get a handful of really poor scores but I'll monitor him too

Will be interesting to see your forward line. Bundy and possibly Deledio are the only 2 cheaper options I like. We might get a handful of rookies pop up but I don't want a bunch of J.Pickett's again

I count more than 9-10 rock solid premo's. Shaw and Hanley are picked as expected premo's, as is Conigs and Lobb

Actually, I could downgrade Lobb to a rookie, meaning I field 2 rookies in the forward line but I could then use that cash to upgrade Shaw and Sicily to 2 of Hibberd/Hurley/Simpson, and that would make things looks pretty damn good too I think

RaisyDaisy

Decided to drop Lobb because I'm sticking to my rule that interrupted preseason = not starting. Can always bring him in once he looks good.

I also feel much more comfortable having Heater at D3 and not D2

Might be a bit mid priced crazy but these are guys who were proven prems and dropped due to injury, not break out contenders so I like the idea of using Griff/Arma etc as stepping stones who score better than rookies

No doubt this will change another 100 times but for the time being I don't mind this

Nige

We seem to have more or less similar structures going on.

I'm pretty set on going 4 deep down back and seeking value in the forwards which is clearly what you've done as well.

You've definitely taken an interesting route with Conigs, Armo and Griff all in your midfield, but I guess it's not absolute crazy.

Bully

Armitage is a brave call, could be an inspired one or another O'meara & D.Swallow balls-up. From my own research I've come up with the following observations -

*Doctors have basically said Armitage's back is like that of a pensioner, I realise it's not his most recent injury but that doesn't just go away.
*His recent scoring has been pretty lack luster, last full season was 87 and he was given a variety of roles.
*Saints have so many similar types all knocking down the door for game time.
*He's really awkwardly priced, I think you need to combine Griff & Armo to get another keeper in there.

If you want to go cheaper then Prestia still represents good value, first preseason in eons & averaged 110 leading up to Richmond's premiership run.

I'm still not that keen on exposing two forward rookies, this is where a bloke like Walters makes perfect sense. The fear of changing roles didn't occur for ten rounds so there's nothing to suggest he'll spend much time there. Brandon Matera was clearly recruited to fill that void.

Look I'll be honest, Arma was the last spot I had to fill with that team and with 315k to spend I figured he would do for now

Geary said this recently

“He (Armitage) is training really strongly now, standing out on the track,” Geary said.

“It’s good to see him out there free of any issues he’s had over the last 12 months. Hopefully he can continue that ... (because) he’s been a really good player for us.”

And this article from Jan 25 suggests Arma is fit and firing having completed a full preseason

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-01-25/rejuvenated-onballer-feels-the-st-kilda-love

I'm definitely not locking him in, but all reports suggest he will be spending most of his time in the mids, even with the amount of mids they have so he's on the watchlist

If he can average 90, which I don't think is out of the question then he should make 150k, provide good on field scoring and be an easy stepping stone to a prem

eaglesman

Haha yeah. I reckon he has 0% chance of being in your side but haha

SilverLion

Bit too much mid price madness for me RD

RaisyDaisy

Yeah no doubt it's mid price madness, but those mid pricers do have merit in being chosen I think

Cripps/Conigs gives me a lot of trouble in terms of balancing out the rest of my side, so I've looked at removing them both to remove that headache and don't mind this at all

Bully

Think you can sit on that team now Raisy, just wait for JLT to confirm rookies. Think I've decided to roll with Goldy as well, just a gut feeling that he's mentally set and we know what a SC force he can be. Only 2% ownership so could be a major POD without resorting to no-names.

Love the backline, rock solid with good upside. Mids are also strong, especially with Griffen in there, perfect hedge betting with Shaw, doesn't really matter who takes the kick-outs.

Forwards your weakest line but something has to give. For me it's the back line so horses for courses. Now let's just hope we get our cheap rookies.

RaisyDaisy

Cheers Bully

I think I will in fact sit tight with this for now

Forward line is the weakest, but besides Heeney, Billings and Dahl I just don't like any other forwards except Lobb but there's clear question marks over him, so I'm happy to go with this set up and get the other 3 lines right

fasttrack13

How confident are you with preseason injuries to Heeney, Billings and Lobb? I'm tossing up still, but i'm on the cautious side with heeney and billings especially...
