EXCUSE ME WHERE IS WITHERGOAT
Do you really think I'd post my actual team here? Smh nige.

GoLions

Ok here is my real team for 2018:

38.9k in the bank still. Think I'm ok with byes for now, maybe a bit too R13 bye heavy. Let me know what you all think!

Funny enough, I feel a forward line like that could potentially work this year ;D

In all seriousness, these are all players that are on my watchlist for 2018. Some of them are potential breakouts, some have half broken out and I'd be looking for that final step, some would just be PODs (e.g. Sauce and Nank), and then your GOATs in Beams and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZORKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Could start between 0 and maybe 6 of these guys tbh.

GoLions

I'll gradually give my thoughts on some of these guys as well :P

WitherGOAT - Absolutely killed it when he came in, has taken over from Rich with the kick-ins, and uses the ball beautifully. Game is perfectly suited to SC. Does carry the "2nd year blues" risk that seems to occur with most young players though. Hodge coming in IMO will be good for him. If I get into a position where I can turn Birchall into a more expensive defender, Withers will be right up there to take that D4 spot.

Lmac - Since his debut year, has shown a lot of potential, but never quite reached it. After an average first month last year, he really started to get going. Only 3 scores under 76 after round 4 showed that his floor is getting much much better, but still needs to find a better ceiling to turn an 85+ avg into a 90+ avg.

Mullett - Aaron 'Docherty' Mullett, need I say more? I'm expecting him to take over Docherty's role at the Bloos, which could do wonders for his scoring. An 80 average last season with Norf, but the Bloos gamestyle is a lot more fantasy friendly for their defenders, which could see him push towards a 90+ average potentially. May be one to watch over the first month though, as players tend to take a few weeks to settle into a new club from what I've seen over the last few years.

Duggan - Had a poor year last year, and the guy I'd be least confident on in defence from the ones mentioned here. But, Priddis and Smitch are now gone, and I reckon Duggan could very easily slot into one of those vacant midfield spots (until VenaGOAT develops a bit more at least). He's in that awkward range though, where he probably won't average enough to be a D6, and won't make enough money as a stepping stone either. One to keep an eye on though anyway.

GoLions

Zorko - Had a huge 2017, becoming one of the most damaging fwd/mids in the comp. His ability to hit the scoreboard is nuts. He does still produce some of those <70 games though, which is a bit of a concern, and also means you can pick him up a lot cheaper at some point in the year. Doesn't seem to really cop the tag all that much, and when he has, he tends to go 100+ anyway.

Beams - SC machine, we all know that. His only worry is injury. If he stays fit, he should go 115+ comfortably, even a good chance at 120+. But the last few years have been less than ideal for him, and if he is in any doubt to get up for a game next season, the Lions will likely take the cautious approach and give him a rest (unless it is a very winnable game). Could really pay off if you want to take the risk though.

Heppell - Averaged 106 in 2014, and 104 in 2015. After the suspension in 2016, I wasn't expecting a very good 2017, and he just fell short of a 100 avg. I can easily see him hitting 105, and think he may be able to take that next step to a 110 avg with Zerrett alongside him. Doesn't really miss any games either.

Blakely - Most people probably were looking at Blakely as a lock in defence to start the year, but unfortunately he was given MID only status by CD. Averaged 89 this year, but after Round 5 his scores went; 100, 108, 103, 130, 98, 114, 74, 115, 129, 121, 119, 7 (injured in first quarter). Excluding the injury game, that was at an average of 110.1, which is more than enough for a spot in your starting midfield if he can replicate those numbers again.

Coniglio - Gradually increased his average each year since debut, and went at 105.7 in 2016. Unfortunately was injured before Round 1 in 2017, went 101 in his first game back in round 7, then injured again the next week. Came back in Round 19 and went; 88, 120, 91, 81, 88, 132, 126, 59 (although with 90DT so still found the ball), for an average of 98.1, so with a full pre-season I can't see why he wouldn't average 100+ at the very least. In that awkward price range though, where he isn't cheap enough to be used as a stepping stone, and may not put up good enough numbers to become a keeper.

so GL is Blakely or Coniglio the better option?

I would say Coniglio has less risk, but Blakely higher reward. Would wanna see where Blakely lines up in the JLT as well.

Coniglio shows every sign of being this year's Murphy.

Sauce - Never misses a game. Generally a safe bet to be one of the top rucks. Crows mids getting better could also mean he can get a few extra HOTA? Hasn't hit 100+ the last two years though. Probably won't start him, but wouldn't be a bad pick.

Nank - Where did this kid come from last season, was an absolute machine for our SC teams most of 2017. Soldo coming in for a bit really hurt his scoring though. Scores with Soldo were; 100, 94, 54, 66, 84, 57 for an average of just under 76. Averaged just under 94 without Soldo. I can see him going even better this year, providing that he stays as the lone ruck, a 95+ average is easily on the cards, if not pushing for 100. Probably doesn't have a high enough ceiling though to make the risk worth it.

Peter

Agree - Nankervis not an option with Soldo and not a get out option for Tigers in the same way Grundy and SMartin are

You don't recall Zorko getting completely tagged out of the game in R14 by GWS (51 SC)? Then backed that up with a filthy game in R17 v Richmond (55 SC).  I'd beg to differ that he does not tend to go 100+ when tagged, far from it.

"tends to" != "always"

Yes, he got tagged out of it by GWS. The Richmond game wasn't really a hard tag, just a bit of a run-with role. He had a crap game. Scored 109 tagged against the Saints, 115 tagged against the Dees, and the Suns put some attention into him in R1 where he scored 114. 116 against GWS last year when tagged as well (don't recall him being tagged on any other occasion). Over the last two years, that's not being tagged much, and scoring 100+ more often than not.

#29
McLean - Improved each year since his debut year in 2015. Got a lot more midfield time in the 2nd half of the year, averaging around 97 in that period of time. If he continues to play in that role, he could easily average 90+ for the year, but at his price you would probably want him to go at 95. Could very well be a top 10 forward regardless though. Probably one that will be in and out of my side until Round 1.

Papley - I absolutely love this kid. Had an injury interrupted pre-season, came back as soon as he was fit, but still wasn't exactly match ready. Had a rusty first couple games, but then from R7 onwards he averaged a tick over 91, in what is only his 2nd year. Should get more stints in the Swans midfield in 2018 I reckon, and would expect a 90-95 average. Only thing holding him back is that he doesn't have any huge games, but it was only his 2nd season, so perhaps he can produce some next year. Similar to McLean, will likely be in and out of my side quite often this pre-season.

Sir Daniel of Caleb - Another young gun at the Dogs, been all over him since he was drafted thanks to my main man Marlon Brando. Had a really good 2016, unfortunately slowed down a bit in 2017, barely lifting his average. A really smart footballer though, makes the right decision more often than not, even in difficult situations. Probably needs to do two things to become a genuine option up forward, and they are to eliminate the stinkers, and hit the scoreboard a bit more. One to keep an eye on.

De Goey - Been waiting for him to break out, and he looked to be pretty close to doing that in the last month or two this year. Still fairly inconsistent though. In his last 7 games, he scored 4 hundreds, but then the other 3 were all under 60. Will he get more midfield time in 2018? I'm not too sure on that, probably won't look at him too much unless he has a really good JLT, but even then I'm not so sure.

Curnow - Another one who stormed home in the 2nd half of the season. After R13 he managed to average a bit under 93, and could very well go on with that form heading into 2018. Will be 21 and in his 3rd year next season, so can very well see him taking that next step. At around 350k I'd probably have him in my side, at 400k...not so sure. Will need to see what his role will be I reckon.

Mathieson - The man, the myth, the legend, the BEAST. Injured his ankle at the start of the year, which resulted in him not breaking back into the side until R10. His scoring wasn't fantastic, but that was (to an extent) impacted by him spending chunks of time deep forward, and the ball didn't come down there a whole lot. Into his 3rd year now, and all reports saying he is absolutely killing it. He is a contested ball machine, and with Rocky now gone, there's a permanent spot in the midfield available, and my money is on Matho to grab it with both hands. At 400k he is a big risk, but I think 90+ is definitely achievable for him. Will have to monitor how he (and other Lions mids) go throughout the pre-season and JLT, to see who looks like replacing Rocky.
