HAWTHORN is reluctant to put a time frame on Cyril Rioli’s return to competitive football as the star forward/midfielder works hard to step up his conditioning levels five weeks out from the start of the AFL season.

Rioli, 28, spent almost two months in Darwin over summer on compassionate leave to be with his family as his father was recovering from heart surgery.

While the club was satisfied with the work he did during his time away, it won’t rush his return until he has caught up with his teammates in terms of his competitive conditioning.

The four-time premiership player, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Round 8 last year, did not play in last Friday’s intra-club match and is no certainty to play in the JLT Community Series.
