Expect Cam Rayner to play mainly forward with some stints in the middle.

For sure, ran an 11 beep which is in the bottom 10%, slowest beep ever recorded for a number 1 pick. My guess is Rayner will also be benched a lot, one to steer clear of this year.

LDU definitely consider, can see him being the pick of the rookies (excluding state leaguers).

As for Brodie, might be an inspired pick this year, showed enough last year.
huh, well there you go.

I ran a 11 last yr and I'm 95kg and 37yrs old

I'll take Brodie and LDU over him, i def wouldn't have 3 priced that high

This year was a strange draft year, Rayner the universal number 1 but a player whose aerobic base needs huge work. Have scanned over past records and only Eddie Betts has turned an 11 beep into an elite AFL career. Toby McLean ran an 11 and has worked into the midfield, the difference being he had less preparation than Rayner who is also an AFL Academy member. Chad Wingard ran a 12 and has been elite but I think it's fair to say he's more a permanent forward. If people were fortunate to see Scrimshaw play his debut match they would have noted he was nearly throwing up at half time., this is coming off a 12 beep.

Anyhow, just for the record here's how I ranked the the top 10.

1. Davies-Uniacke
2. Jaidyn Stephenson (heart defect factored in)
3. Brayshaw
4. Cerra
5. Rayner
6. Darcy Fogarty
7. Dow
8. Bonar
9. Higgins
10. Coffield

Would you say taking Brodie over Brayshaw for the experience is worth it?

Brayshaw is a top notch athlete, won't have any issues playing out games. With Freo clearly in rebuild mode I'd expect him to be given plenty of opportunities. As for Brodie, you'd expect him to also be given match time, 23 touches & 6 tackles in the last round indicates he's right on the cusp of clicking. If choosing between the two I'd always plump for the guy who has had a couple of preseasons (but I still rate Brayshaw very highly).

If they were both named Rd. 1, I'd be more tempted by Brodie.

paddy Dow

Dow is a reasonable selection, good pace & tank and has a solid clearance technique. Had a difficult time separating Cerra & Dow to be honest but in the end gave Cerra the points based on overall production. Dow is a 20 possession player, very similar to Brodie in that regard, Cerra has a much higher ceiling and averaged 26 touches at TAC level. For player comparisons I'd say Cerra is more in the Pendles mold & Dow a Luke Shuey type.

Cerra is shower

Cerra is a very good player, missed a stack of footy through injury but was holding his own as a 15 year old in TAC finals. If GC held onto pick 2 he would have been a Sun.

Valid option, not sure why more don't have him currently.

Both players coming back from a long way with aerobic fitness, Ryan didn't get drafted last year due to running a 9 beep, has improved that with a 12 (yo-yo) equivalent. Not sure how much more improvement left but for a direct comparison, Daniel Rioli runs a 15. Can they maintain defensive pressure for 100 minutes? Be interesting to watch, based on Ryan's form in the WAFL finals I say no.

Yeah but we don't need them to play 22 games. They are both cheap and so they only really need 2 goods games in the first 6-7 rounds and they make money

Peter

Yes, agree, hopefully Round 1 against Sydney

Small forward type players tend to get a reasonable crack as well I feel, as long as their pressure is good enough. May not get many touches, but impacts the game. Not great for scoring, but when the good games come you get some $$

I don't feel like I could go both of them. Can see them being like Pickett last year. Worthy of a spot on the bench though
