Will Brodie will brodie.
For once I agree with something youve posted haha ;)

Have Davies-Uniacke in my side but he will be substituted for Brodie if he is named round 1.

Then it's a no from me. Guys like Higgins, Worpel, Hayden, Daniels & Crowden much better value.

As long as I have one or two dpp on fwd/mid lines it is not necessary to worry about the balance of available rookies.  Hunter Clark looks one of the most ready 2018 rookies.  I expect him to get game time and step up.  Not having the DPP not an issue.  Starting Game 1 that is an issue.

Clark has a bit of competition at the Saints, he has also spent the majority of his time in defence. Good player but not a walk up starter for midfield duties.
Be happy to see him start in backs.   Issue is getting a gig.   Not really concerned if he does not start as need to juggle rookies to who starts and as we know good JLT form does not translate into getting a gig or having JS.    JS is probably what Armitage, JOM, etc have over the rookies.
Armo is borderline best 22 at the moment. Not 100% and will have to fight for his place.
Unfortunately I don't think he's going to get back to his 2015 heights again. Each time he's worked back towards full training he's had a set back (the last three times) and he's still not in full training with the main group.
Dunstan, Billings, Steele and co have passed him.

On the Saints rookies.... this was what the coach had to say on SEN on Dec 4

Clark, Coffield, Paton and rookie pick Doulton Langlands will be trained up as midfielders and says that they have the opportunity to press their claims for a senior place over summer.

“They’re good runners, they’ve played consistent footy last year, so it looks like they’re going to be quite durable”

“Clavarino is a taller key back and he’s going to take a little bit longer. Logan Austin who we traded for is probably the one really. He’s already played 18 games of AFL footy, so he’s much more likely to be able to come in and have an impact.

“But as I said to the boys, you can all play (early on) if you do what’s required and you earn the respect of your teammates."

Peter

Better keep money aside as not likely many rookies to start, from your summary above

Not exactly a rookie, but at $123,900 he is priced as one.
He played the last 8 games of the 2015 season, including 2 where he was subbed off, at a SC average of 57.
In 2016 he didn't play until Round 11 and in that game he did his achilles. Injury ruined his 2017 season as well.

Goddard's not guaranteed a spot in the Saints best 22 but could potentially earn his place. As a tall defender the players he will be competing for a spot with are Carlisle, Brown, Austin and Gilbert. Carlisle is a lock. Brown has been solid but I reckon Austin or Goddard will overtake him at some point this year and push him out, with Brown only needed for depth and as cover. Spuddy Gilbert, whose eyes seem to light up like a possum caught in the headlights when he has time to think about things, could become a depth player too... if Goddard has the legs as the article makes mention of.

I reckon we'll see him play games but I'm not sure if it will be R1. Hope it is though.

Peter

Yes, was hoping to play this season and really needs to, to stay on its list with the two new high draft picks this year. Hopefully could be a downgrade target also

I'd expect one of Austin or Goddard to play Rd.1, definitely.

Depends on their pre seasons but they aren’t best 22 atm.

Thats true, and with Brown and Carlisle both there they are far from guaranteed a spot. Still, I'd be surprised if neither of them got up for Rd. 1. Just a gut feel :P

Peter

I think they will play VFL to get form up, then may force way in

AFLx must be a waste of time for SC coaches. Twenty minutes of up and down football

Hopefully I'm wrong but think the only relevance AFLX will have to SC is in the injury department

Joel Smith likely to play round 1 for the Dees. Coach loves him.

$152,500 DEF/MID
