Gotch opening and taking that SCRRREEEEAAAMMMER at 2nd slip was good to see for your prediction!

First crack at the Official Fantasy Big Bash after a 12th place overall finish last year :P

Each pick explained.

Finch - GOAT. Will miss games later in the season but we'll deal with that later.
Watto - Gun who likely bowls 2-4 overs a match.
Maxy - Just in immense form, and should use this as an audition for ODIs and T20s
Head - Bargain
Henriques - Rissky this one, but he seems so cheap for someone who could bat at 3/4 and bowl 3-4 overs
Cartwright - lock at that price
Maddinson - bargain, but by no means locked

Pierson - opens and keeps (cheap)
Carey - could open and keep (so cheap)

Bravo - Explosive T20 player, should bowl 4 overs and come in and slog late in innings
Christian - was great for me last time, takes wickets, catches and loves a slog and will get the chance with Canes weak side imo
Cutting - shocking econ rate but does take wickets and does slog late if he gets a bat
Hastings - love him and like Christian and Cutting he loves a late bash
Pollard - point to prove after an awful campaign last time out
Paris - lock at that price
Bird - not 100% but seems so cheap

30k in bank. I stress this is a first draft, and with the early Thunder double, I do need to consider adding another Thunder bloke or two in there.

Starting the SC now ;)

Nige

Also, Nathan Reardon has joined the Hurricanes (his 4th BBL club now :o) as an injury replacement for James Bazley (who was gonna be a bargain!).

Hey mate, just so you're aware, Pollard won't be playing until later in the season when he replaces Nabi. Gades already have Bravo as one of their internationals.

http://www.bigbash.com.au/news/kieron-pollard-mohammad-nabi-melbourne-renegades-signings-full-squad-big-bash-league-bbl-07/2017-12-08

"Nabi, the third-ranked T20 International allrounder on the ICC charts, will be replaced by hard-hitting West Indian Kieron Pollard for the back-end of the tournament."

I'll update the OP in a minute with the Leagues and the remaining slots. Have been a bit slack focusing on my FPL team.

Anyhoo, super excited for this season! The first one since 13/14 that I will be in the country for the entirety of the tournament. Last year I started off well at 41st after the first week before slipping behind with limited Wi-Fi in Vietnam & Cambodia. Top 50 finish in 13/14 in my last full season so will be hoping to rattle the pointy end of the rankings again this year! Fingers crossed. :P

First crack, and already I'm irritated with the number of players I want but have left out. Perth having the bye first up is slightly annoying considering I wanted the Marsh/Tye/Willey trio but will have to find a way to get them in after the start.

Finch // McCullum // Roy // Head // Ferguson (Maddinson // Cartwright)
Pierson (Carey)
Watson // Maxwell // R.Khan // S.Khan // McKay (Tye // Paris)

Like ele, will explain each pick.

Finch - GOAT, okay in Sheffiled Shield, 8th highest run scorer in NatWest T20 with 489 @ 40.75 (166.89 SR)
McCullum - Have never gone without McCullum in a season he has played in the BBL and will continue to pick him.
Roy - Boom or bust, was very good last year before leaving. Either goes cheaply or goes absolutely bonkers.
Head - Absolute bargain. 6th highest run scorer in the Sheffield Shield and should bowl regularly as a second spinning option.
Ferguson - Might raise a few eyebrows. This selection depends on where he bats in the order for the Thunder, if its 4 like I expect, then I'm happy with starting him for the DGW. 2nd highest runscorer in the shield, 6th in the JLT and made 30 (26) before retiring hurt in yesterdays practice match. In some good form.
Maddinson & Cartwright - Ultra cheap and having great domestic summers.

Pierson - My POD last year who failed while Dunk went bananas for everyone else. He will be good one day. :(
Carey - Cheap and should open, no-brainer.

Watson - Still slightly iffy on this pick as haven't seen a whole lot of him recently to pass judgement, can easily swap out after DGW in the event of failure.
Maxwell - Have never had this bloke in my BBL team ever as I have an unfathomable hatred for the bloke, but I don't think you can ignore 590 runs at 73 in the Shield, can you?
R. Khan - 14 wickets @ 19 (5.82 ER) & 6 wickets at 21 (4.46 ER) in the CPL and BPL respectively. Not the best strike rate but if you want someone who's going to be supremely economical, this is your guy. Could become Bravo or Willey if I can free up cash.
S. Khan - Few guys Im tossing up here but Shadab gets the nod at the moment because of the DGW in R2. 12 wickets @ 15 (5.75 ER) and 5 @ 23 (5.9 ER) in the CPL and Pakistan T20 league respectively. Unlike Rashid is proven against quality opposition at international level (14 wickets at 16.6, 6.5 ER in T20I, 19 wickets at 25.5, 5 ER at ODI level), but doesn't have the same hype. Averages 30 at FC level with the bat and has a T20I strike rate of 160 so can swing the bat if needed too.
McKay - Solely in for the DGW, I know he is in atrocious form, but he should start and was the leading wicket taker in the NatWest T20 Blast in the English summer (23 @ 14, 7.6 ER) and I'm willing to hold him as bench fodder for the time being.
Tye - Sitting on my bench and will come on for McKay from GW2. Too good to not have once playing.
Paris - Cheap, should play.

Others I'm considering

Bravo- Need the Windies GOAT but where do I find the cash? Ferg down and Rashid up maybe?
Tremain - Having a fantastic shield season and in contention for Rashid's spot, but was very patchy last year, could I go there again?
M.Marsh - Where do I find the room from GW2?? (International Duties permitting)
Willey - Again will be essential, will have to find room in GW2.
Ingram - T20 specialist, will come into huge consideration for Strikers DGW's.

Thoughts/Ideas appreciated, happy to pick apart any teams too. :)

My team is similar Koop!
I had Ferguson until I heard about his quad. Took him out and subbed Peirson on (Voges in for loop and DGR next week)

Finch, Watson, McCullum, Head, Peirson (Maddinson, Voges)
Buttler (Carey)
Bravo, R Khan, S Khan, Nabi, McKay (Bird, Cartwright)

33k spare

My main concerns are re: the DGRs and future trading limitations on players who get called up for International duties. Does anyone know specific dates/rounds where most will leave? Rd6?
Individual player concerns are McKay & Buttler, who I feel are only in my side because of the DGR, not because I actually rate them.
What do you think of my team? Any suggestions?

Just on Henriques, I read that he's racing time to be ready for the opener and even if he does get up, probably won't bowl much early in the tourney.

Don't know the exact date everyone leaves unfortunately, maybe PB knows? Shouldnt be until about Round 5/6 if I had to guess.

Bird I'm concerned will still be in the Aus squad. If he wasn't he'd be 100% a bench lock with the Shield season he had before he left on duty, but I haven't heard anything re. his availability so I've got no clue. Voges I'm not sure will bat high enough to be relevant, but will play every game so is a reliable bye rotation given his price.

Wasn't aware of Ferg's injury (although seeing he retired hurt I probably should've inferred, silly me.) but will look at one of Buttler or probably Patterson as a DGW option to replace him. I do like playing to the DGW's as much as I can which has its ups and downs. Can't say I rate McKay or Patterson either so I know what you mean, I'm in the same boat.

Butttler can be relevant but I think he'll bat too far down the order unfortunately to really be a huge presence. Can be handy with the bat but with guys like Peirson, Carey and Wade amongst others expected to open, I wouldn't keep him too far past the first DGW unless he ends up batting in the first 4 or 5. Good call having Peirson that you can swap in to pick up another batter when the time comes, that's a handy move.

Really like Nabi but another I'm not sure how to fit in. Has the same problem as Rashid in the sense he's not proven internationally vs. Tier 1 nations, but has been putting up consistent numbers in every comp. Should bat 6 or 7 for the Gades and be a very reliable replacement for Narine.

Overall it's pretty similar as you said, but I really like it mate! Good luck. :)

As I do every year, loading up on DGW players regardless if I rate them or not. Logically, an average player that plays two games should outscore a good player who only gets one crack at it (especially in a T20 comp which really is a lottery).

So I've got the 4 Thunder boys in there at the moment, ideally I'd like a couple more but I honestly can't justify anyone else. Might look at going Ahmed/Green over McKay but I think Clint is more likely to bowl his 4 overs, including the all-important death overs where he can pick up some cheap poles as he did when he was the leading wicket-taker in the comp just two seasons ago.

I also feel like emergency loopholing is a very underrated tactic and can give you a huge advantage as long as you keep on top of it. Aside from Thunder players (where you'll obviously want your DGW players on the field), players from all teams besides the Strikers can be loopholed in Rd 1. The Heat have the DGW in Rd 2 so I'm killing two birds with one stone by having Cutting and Shadab Khan on the pine as my loophole players. If they fire, I'll trade Wade/Bravo/Nabi to Scorchers (bye) players, who also have the DGW in Rd 2.

Watto will likely be my skipper for Rd 1. McCullum is too entertaining not to have. Roy is my boy and has a monster ceiling. Wade should open for the 'Canes and basically has an automatic +12 to his name with the gloves.

Buttler should bat in the top 4 in that putrid Thunder side so has to be picked for Rd 1 imo. Peirson on the pine in prep for his DGW in Rd 2.

Bravo is a gun and you could even argue is slightly underpriced after an average BBL campaign by his standards last season. Nabi is one of the best finishers in T20 cricket and should bowl his 4 overs in Narine's absence.

But really, my team could change completely depending on how my Heat players go.

Skyarm

Always do Fantasy EPL and Supercoach and only saw BBL so decided I wanted to give it a crack with my mates. Done a bit of reading and a lot of tinkering and this is what I've got so far.

Finch, Watson(C), Maxwell, McCullum, Butler (wk) (Maddinson, Cartwright)
Peirson (Carey)
Bravo, Cutting, McClenaghan, Stoinis, Mckay (Bird, Paris)

2k left

Looking to get Klinger and maybe another Scorcher for round 2.

Rusty00

Been tinkering with my team and come up with this:

Finch, Watson, Maxwell, McCullum, Head (Carey, Cartwright)
Wade (Inglis)
Bravo, Christian, McClenaghan, Stoinis, Nabi (Bird, Paris)

Fairly happy with this. Only 2 DGW Thunder players though, but not many of the others are appealing. Couldn't pick between Finch and McCullum so squeezed them both in :P Seems a bit of a risk with both Bat only (although Finch does send down some off-spinners at times)

Edit: Just noticed it was pretty similar to the team above ;)

Love the team Ada!

Yeah the more I look at it the more I think Buttler could come up the order. If he's top 4 I won't have any hesitation in picking him.

Only '?' for me is McClenaghan with his recent form & overall numbers, should bat pretty low as well. But then again, the more DGW players the better!

Same as above re: McClenaghan, but obviously a DGW pick.

Cutting I'm not sure can be economical enough anymore to justify selection for his batting. Was one of my first picked in the first few seasons, but I'm not sure he can still be classed as a safe pick.

Other than that I think its a good squad mate! Read what I said in MC's one for my thoughts on bird.

Nice team Rusty, will make a note about Stoinis to both of you that I'm not sure he opens anymore with Dunk's arrival, and am also unsure how far down the order he slides. 4? 5? I'm not too sure. Still could be a good pick but just keep that in mind. :)
