Hearing a few murmurs about Freo's interest in Reece Conca.  Would be cheap seeing as he hasnt played much in the last 3 seasons at Richmond (15 games).

He is 25.

If we got him cheaply then I would be ok with it.  I would still be pushing to get Wilson and Matera before Conca.

Yeah a bit of talk about him going home never really got a run at it at the Tiges always injured and he will find it tough to break in now he should not cost you much Tiges would at least try for a 3rd round for him you'd think

RaisyDaisy

Conca and Wilson rebounding off the HB flanks wouldn't be too shabby at all

Ricochet

Don't see where he fits in yet, especially with Wilson and Matera coming in, but won't say no to him if he comes cheap

If that is where you have him pegged then he wont get a game at Freo.  Luke Ryan and Nathan Wilson will be the half backs.  So he either becomes extra midfield depth or needs to learn to be a back pocket so he can take over from Lee Spurr's spot.

Don't forget Weller. He'll continue to play high if he's in the defensive group

I see Lachie Weller (and Connor Blakely) going back to the midfield.  Much like Mundy did, start at half back and then progress in to the midfield.

Yeh Connor should go back inside and eventually Weller will i agree, not sure it'll be next year though. He had a really good year and gave us some good drive off that halfback line.

Let us not forget that if we get Wilson , that it leaves.Lee Spurr in a very dangerous position.Spurr has been a rock solid for us since joining us, but injury lat robbed him of more games. He would no be in doubt to be part of our first 22 I would think.

If you are playing Hamling, Pearce, Johnson and then Wilson and Ryan.  You have 1 more spot in the back 6.  Do you give it to Spurr, Logue, Weller, Hughes or Blakely

I give it to Logue as he will be the Johnson replacement so while we are in another development year he gets the nod.
Blakely back to the midfield
Weller to half forward/midfield rotation
Hughes just misses out
Spurr misses out as he is not our future (he has been an amazing soldier)

FB: L Ryan, J Hamling, M Johnson
HB: G Logue, A Pearce, N Wilson*
MI: S Hill, N Fyfe, B Hill
HF: H Bennell, M Taberner, C McCarthy
FF: M Walters, B Cox, B Matera**
RU: A Sandilands, L Neale, C Blakely
INT: S Darcy, D Mundy, D Tucker, L Weller

Hughes, Langdon, Deluca, Grey, Kersten, Apeness, Nyhuis, Ballantyne, Spurr

* I named Wilson as he is expected to be at Freo
** (If we get him) Matera gets the nod ahead of Ballantyne - purely based on the fact that he would be a part of the team moving forward where as Ballantyne wont be.

Well you need 7 defenders Valk, so yeh Weller would stay in that rotation.

Gigantor

Do you realistically expect Sandi and Darcy to play in the same 22?

If we are in year 2 of a 4 year rebuild (re-stump, re-plumb) then yes why wouldnt you have them both playing.  Only way for Darcy to learn is to play AFL (not for Peel).  Sandi is an automatic walk up start.  So yes, play the 2 of them next season.  Sandi then retires and we move forward with Darcy for the next 10 years.

For Darcy's development yeh. But I can't see Sandi playing every game and I don't think we'll go as tall up forward as ^ with Darcy and Sandi.

Conca might fit over with us at West Coast?  ???
