(not sure if this should be in the stradegy board)

Ok, if you really want to win DT, you have to pick unique players! IMO last year was easier and teams were very different but this year it has changed and people keep going to just one player when there are many other fine choices. Sure that Mid-season trades will make a change but i figured that to win dream team, you must have a good team at the start. I hope you consider what i just wrote.

I don't think Team Director's team was a stand out in this respect in 2009.

if you really want to win then you need to pick the best 30 players who will score you the most points, regardless of how many other people have them. Having a unique that doesn't outscore a common is of no benefit.

This year will be about trade timing and trade selection as well as captain selection each round (if you have a couple of options) and bench/field selection within your own team

Everyone wants a rock solid foundation from round 1

No no no, that is not what i said at all, for example, If there were 3 players who were very alike, everyone picked 1 of them for a stupid or careless reason, when nothing is wrong with the other 2. Maybe you should read what i wrote again.

i choose players i like watching. i've done research and know what they are capable off. have gone with little popular picks but picks that will score well none the less. i loved last year as i picked a couple of guys who nobody else had who had great years (montagna, boyd and gray to name a few).

i hate having to pick a team 90% like the next. if one or two of those guys fall over, most teams will be screwed.

i'm in it for the fun

Master Q

Fair Enough, nothing wrong with that.

Oh the fun involved is awesome huh. I just researched picked and didn't even expect to get a top score for the week...but I have to admit I wouldn't mind another grand lol

All I do is pick a player I love as a gun on each position.
Then I do this again lowering their price by 50k
And again only downing the pick this time by at least 100k (except ruck only two guns for that).
Then I choose my two benchies on each possie.
Check how much money I have left..grab the calculator and divide it by how many spots open and pick ones from that price bracket.

Yeah I am cheap lol but not easy ;)

Edit: PS. Yes I research players and know my stuff before I go all in lol.

Seems like fairly good tactically :P I am not a huge fan of having too many mid rangers tho, my tactics are more like, get a lot of superstars / keepers and make sure you get the good rookies. Chuck into the mix 3-4 (depending on the year and how many good ones there are) mid rangers as well as 3-4 rookies/(players in the rookie price bracket e.g. waters this year) on the field. It seems as tho the mid rangers theory has worked to a large degree over the last few years tho.

In regards to the previous issue of whether picking unique players is necessary. IMO i don't think so at all really, i mean put it this way. It's not very likely that many people are going to miss out on any truly good picks. Therefore the majority of teams start off with 30 players from the same selection pool of everyone else. It is all about how you use your trades, and as much as i hate to say it, i do believe luck plays a large role in your teams success's also.

Sorry no it is not about unique. It is about research and who you feel will step up plain and simple. This is not unique, it is who you want in your team.....standard or sub standard ..do not conpromise a think winner for someone that will give you cash or plainly put, will average more. ok some caps here EVERYONE TOLD ME EDDIE BETTS AND CARRAZZO WOULD NOT DO WELL!!.Just do what you FEEL is right.

Cicjose

lol i love the fact you said everyone told you eddie betts wouldnt do well.

Here's what happened to me:

Pick Varcoe

On eve of season find out he goes down with an eight week thumb injury

PANIC

get to afl website

deselect varcoe

look at fantasy freako

decide that from freako's best preseason team i could choose Hall or Betts

Pick Betts

watch his score

Jump up and down for joy when i find out he scores 110 first up
