Rich, Ziebell and Hartlett for me, unless of course one of them goes to North :P

Might also find a spot for Steele or Danger depending on my other mids.

polls are good :)

Really depends on who gets drafted where. I'll be looking closely at the Freo, WC and Pies draftees to fill some midfield woes.

Agreed, need to wait for the draft.

You've also gotta look at the bodies of the young guys coming through. A lot of guys have the ability to rack up the stats and U/18 level but their body is just not big enough to cope with the toughness of AFL footy just yet. Thats where players like selwood and palmer have been able to step up to the next level. Their bodies were strong enough to cope with the workload and pressure of AFL footy. Rich looks like one of those players who has the developed body ready to take the next step (played seniors for Subi last two years). Whereas someone like Robinson will struggle to replicate his massive U/18 numbers because he is just not strong enough and will need a couple of preseaons in the gym.

Rich, Sidebottom and O'Keefe for me at this stage

Hello everybody

Here’s my 2 cents on which kids will play in 09:

From the 2007 draft, all first round and priority draftees that were not
i)   key position / tall,
ii)   injured,
iii)   completing year 12, or
iv)   cursed to play for Laidley
played almost every game last year while not injured, and hence were good DT picks:
Cotchin (pick 2)
Masten (3)
Morton (4)
Myers (6)
Palmer (7)
Rioli (12)
Ebert (13)

Kruez and Talyor were the exception - they played most games regardless of being KP / tall due to going to a rank club with no good rucks and Egan being out all year.

The other picks were (in order):
Grant (KP)
Henderson (KP) (although he did play 8 games)
Macevoy (KP)
Dangerfield (year 12)
Veszpremi (KP/tall)
Grimes (injured)
Tarrant (poor bugger didn’t stand a chance â€" he was KP, injured, and played for Laidley)
Lobbe (tall)
Rance (tall).

So, using that theory, considering the 2008 draft is supposed to be better than the 2007 draft, Rich, Hill, Hartlett, Yarran, Ziebell, Sidebottom, Blease, Swift and any other first round picks that do not fit the above criteria should play most games.

(Any midfielders that go to Hawthorn or Geelong probably won’t get a game, but the above kids should be gone by that stage anyhoos).

Add to that list Dangerfield and any other 2nd/3rd year kids that perform in the NAB Cup,  and there’s enough cheap midfielders for everyone!

Am I right, or am I right, or am I right?

good post there Scuzzlebut. I reckon i'll definately go with rich and dangerfield on the bench for both should get a bunch of games and make a lot off cash for upgrades.

XztatiK

yep, good call scuzzlebut, except for Veszpremi who isnt really a tall/KF.

Qwop, Oklahoma City? I hope u dont mean the Thunder :P

Qwop 7

haha yeah i do... they'll come good, just you wait.....even if it takes a few years

Scuzzlebut

Oops â€" not only is Veszpremi not a tall, he’s one of the shortest players on the Swans list…. Stupid beer!

There’s been a lot of talk about Hill lately. Despite being skinny, he’ll play round 1.

Qwop 7

Yeah, its rumoured that hill could even go to freo with pick three coz theyre extremely interested

Dangerfield seems to be a popular choice in 09.  I like to put as many rookies in the midfield as possible (maybe that would explain my low ranking), but I think most coaches try to avoid that, as it is a tad risky.  Dangerfield was completing his VCE this year (in Melbourne, I think) and only played 2 late games, with minimal impact.  So would he be considered as risky as the 1st year players listed above?  He’s not a first year player, but you can’t really say he’s been in the system for a year if he was studying in another state.
