Damian Barrett spilled a couple of beans on the Balic situation:

The leave is so he can return to Melbourne and he'll likely be seeking a trade back home for next season.

Also said Lobb is in doubt for this week.  If that means anything...
That's pretty huge news. Pretty much a must trade now I guess?
I wasn't paying a great deal of attention but he didn't really clarify how long Balic would be out for.

It may be something minor, you never know.

If that's true about him really not wanting to movei nterstate and his parents even offering him money to stay home then why would Freo bother going near him? Surely that's a clear warning sign that he's gonna head home

He was a third rounder, worth the risk even as trade bait.

Your a professional Footballer. Suck it up. I hate all this move back home or not wanting to move away stuff.

Agree 100% and we have had to cope with this ever since our retention allowance was cut. It is hard I know and our welfare officers do their best but if a player makes his mind up nothing we can do about it.

its a risk you take when you pick up a player from another state.

Its not different to any other job and remember this is a 20 year old kid. Not many people left their homes at 18 and moved across state for a job.

Plus it normally balances it out.

They lose Balic but gain McCarthy.

some people are happy living away from home and others arent.

And they've gained Kersten, Hamling and Hill last trade period. However what's not priced in is the lost value in not drafting interstate players due to the fear of losing them in a year or two.

I don't understand why the contracts when draftees sign with teams are only for one year, at least make them two years or something.

JBs-Hawks

They are two years, make em 4 like the NBA.

How often do you hear an NBA player wanting to head home? They just chase success and money :P

strikeforce

Who misses out?

1 Andrew McGrath
2 Tom Bellchambers
4 Jobe Watson
15 Josh Green
20 Jackson Merrett
23 David Myers
24 Craig Bird

Watson, Green are safe. Would say Mcgrath should be but who gets the final spot? I got noone but would be handy if Mcgrath and Myers miss out haha

I would be picking Belly , Merrett and Bird to miss but it ain't my decision  ;D

GoLions

For those looking at Durdin (hopefully not many):

QuoteThe Kangaroo shuffle

North Melbourne is up to something at selection, re-shuffling its bench before trimming its squad to 22 this afternoon.

The Kangaroos advised on Friday morning that they had moved Luke McDonald, Ryan Clarke, Aaron Mullett and Mason Wood into their 18.

Moved onto the bench were Jed Anderson, Lachie Hansen, Shaun Atley and Sam Durdin.

The move presumably puts those players moved to the bench in jeopardy, with the seven-man bench set to be trimmed to four at 5pm AEST today.

The new bench is Anderson, Hansen, Atley, Durdin, Andrew Swallow, Taylor Garner and Declan Mountford.

Money Shot

Out goes Durdin from my side in comes the man the myth the legend Greenwood.

Bird could easily come in to provide some contested ball.

There's a few players knocking on the door to get a run for the Bombers which makes me a bit nervous about Myers, but think he's worth picking anyway.

Devon Smith comes outta the team with a knee injury at training, he'll miss 6 weeks   :o
