I Know one of the Golden Rules of Supercoach is do not trade in rookies unless they are on the bubble however I am thinking about breaking this rule with this Guy Mark O'Connor. There are a few reasons I am thinking this which are outline below (not 100 Percent sure if i am doing this just oulining some reasons)

1. There are literally No other defensive rookies. I really need to get rid of hampton and otten at some point and given their high Break Evens I think this is the week. All my other rookies are predicted to make cash and have relatively low BE's (Marchback, McGrath, Stewart, Barrett, Fisher, Hardwick, Turner, WHE)

2. I dont have the $$ to go both up so I will need to go one down one up. The only other downgrade option I have is berry however at 170K im not sold. Even with Robinson out i just dont know if he will hold his spot for Brisbane for long enough to make a signigicant amount more than this 170K. I am aware that O'Connor could well go next week as well however there are a few factors that make me think otherwise.

3. Geelong really seem to like him. Has only Played 4 games of VFL and looked solid. His stats look okay and the vision I have seen looks handy and hard at the contests.  He is the youngest player to play the Galeic equivalent of the TAC cup at 15 in Ireland and has very good speed. As soon as Parfitt was announced on the LTIL they upgraded him immediately and threw him in the deep end with his debut the same week

4. The Upgraded him over Zach Guthrie (Unless he is injured I dont know)

5. The other option is McNeice from Essendon who is on the bubble but no idea when or if he will get another game.

6. 102K Price allows me to get any defender with the otten upgrade. Thinking Laird, Roberton or Docherty.

Like I said still not sold but would love to hear other peoples thoughts

Cheers Guys

Nope. You have the option to see him and if he can cement a spot in the team

I think I'm doing it... But it is basically crazy.

If it were after the byes, the 102k price tag alone almost justifies it as a cash grab. But if he plays the next game or two and gets dropped, he is a non-playing rookie on your bench going through the bye rounds, which is hard to love.

If I realised EVW would have been so handy it would have been great to have got him in a couple of weeks ago. At this point it's effectively between McNiece, who I don't think is a good bet having missed two games in a row, Cox, who is similarly out of favour, and O'Connor.

Fingers crossed..

It's very risky, could pay off but you don't gain any advantage over the competition. If he's good then everyone will jump on after a sighter. With the byes coming up it's doubly risky.

And the golden rule stands. I'd er on the side of him being underwhelming for SC purposes. There are times to break the rules. I did it once and worked beautifully. (Treloar to Murphy, on the bubble) But you can easily get it wrong. There's nothing to be gained by going early on a rookie unless there are two 'must' haves coming up in which case you can't squeeze them all in.

Keep Otten and upgrade Hampton. The R11 bye is a horror. May as well keep Otten until then. 80 avg is not far off a premo. Worst case Otten lose 5 grand. I doubt even that much. Every chance Otten tons up and has another growth spurt.

This is True but it allows me to grab a premo defender this week as at the moment i only have 45K in the bank which to me is a leg up.

The fact that he may get dropped for the byes does worry me a little

Still not 100 percent sold and I never thought I would say this but im seriously considering this

Based on how whack the rookies are this year I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in and averages 100.  On basically 0 AFL experience.

If he's straight out next week then leaves you with a spud on your bench with no way out except a sideways trade.

No way

This.

Also did some research. Lots of HB's, not a lot of effective kicks. Lots of handball recieves as well which makes me think a running link up player that wont kick it. Pass.

Sounds like your trying to convince yourself into making a poor choice as you have snookered yourself by not looking forward.

Pretty Much This haha

Just trying to take a risk somewhere but maybe this isnt the right spot. Very challenging this season in regards to Rookies

Berry is a much better pick.
