The only reason I see Melican playing is his height at 192 over Newman 187 as well as an extra few kegs. Might be to combat the Giants talls. Could be a match up thing and not his performance as such.

I actually had a similar thought that it could be mainly the match up that caused him to get dropped. With Patton, Cameron and Lobb all forward they definitely need some tall timber down back. Last week the Eagles only had Kennedy with McGovern floating through and no Darling.

Although Aliir Aliir did get dropped who perhaps would have kept his spot if that was the case..

Hopefully he comes back soon.

Rampe & McVeigh will also present a problem for Newman in the near future. He may need injuries to get back into the 22. It could be argued it's the only reason he got a gig in the first place. I am considering trading him else I have SPP, Swallow & Parfitt on field in my MIDS this week. I was super keen on no trades this week but the selectors have made that difficult. So it's either Newman>Cox/Williamson & JOM>Yeo OR hold & pray. Hmmm.

Just read an article saying Hannen is also under pressure JKH. It went on to say JHK was very impressive in last weeks Casey game & is a chance to play Anzac eve vs. Tigs.

On a side note, in your opinions, whats the chances of Barrett coming back in to the side in the near future. Has been prolific in the NEAFL and I thought he was okay in his 3 games. Not a lot of the pill, but his tackle numbers were great. Dont want to trade out Newman as I feel he will be back sooner rather than later, but dont know a lot about Brisbane. Ringo, I think you would be the man to ask here?

He's probably the next guy to come in if we get another injury. Christensen gone for the season helps his chances a lot. I'd say he'll play another 8-10 games this year, but could be staggered here and there.

Thanks GL, think I might hold for now. Really want to get rid of Caddy, but the only way to do so and bring in anyone decent is through a double trade. One of either Newman or Barrett. Might have to hang on to him and hope he doesnt drop too much more.

Like GL think he will get games if we get injuries and on team structure. Found it interesting that Dawson was preferred to him this week.  Matthieson is due back in the next week or two to put further pressure on.
