Had Bartel as my No.1 mid and captain last year, but this year have initially decided to go with Gazza. Just wondering others thoughts on whether he is worth his $712K price tag or if it is better to go for a Judd(or Hodge, Corey, Bartel) and spend the $120K difference elsewhere.

MiGZ

yeh i'd go for Judd or Barts, i would say Hodge first though if not for his little niggles. ablett should come down alittle in price...maybe, 120k is definately handy money if you can get your hands on it.

Judd for me.  Better value IMO.  Ablett has to maintain something like 115 points/week (or something like that) so the chances of that are slim so he is bound to reduce in price sooner rather than later.  Grab him when he has a bad one with one of your cash cows!!!!

Biggie

Judd for me.

Will be the best SC'er in 2009

I think Abletts price would have to plummit to about $450K as Bartel's did last year before you could trade for him.

I doubt this could happen before Rnd 11 ish, unless he went missing in '09.

You would have to upgrade a mid priced cash cow (Couglan or Hasleby) to achieve it any sooner.

If you dont take him from the beginning you will have your fingers crossed all season that he dosnt repeat last years gold + 200 scores as everyone will have him as Captain.

Im on Ablett as my structure is absolute premium and high draftees.

He is only 24 yo and the cream of a high possession playing team. Youll be sorry if you dont IMO.

For now I have downgraded Ablett to Judd, and upgraded my No.2 and 3 premium mids from Swan and Palmer to Corey and S.Tuck and had a bit left over to upgrade one of my backs as well.

I'm going to wait for his price to come down before I consider him, $712K is a bit too much, maybe $650K is more like it. I have Bartel and Judd and will hopefully be able to cash cow for Ablett by R8 or so.

jazz

ablett just needs one bad game to crash down for me to get him. i went judd, dal santo, pendlebury and selwood.

Biggie

I have Gary now.

I aint missing out on his 120+ scores in the first few rnds.

To GAblett or not to GAblett

m0nty mentioned the other day that weekly scores must reflect starting averages to maintain the players value

So in GAblett's case....at $713K that's about 132 points every week every week for 22 weeks just to keep the value

Last year there he scored 132+ points in 8 of the 18 games he played....great effort

So those who picked him and if he maintain his average....BONUS!...if not....his value will quickly deteriorate

Those who are betting that he will fall in price....like me...will not be happy if he maintain his average

Put I am happy to save $120K at the beginning of the season

I hope he does a J. Bowden

I disagree with people who say he only needs one bad game to plummet in price. That is not how the scoring system works! Even if he did have 1 bad game he would probably come back and get a gold score to maintain his average. He does not need 132+ every round because if he has one match below 132 then his next he may get 150 and thus still averaging 132. Get Ablett NOW and don't be crossing yur fingers hoping he doesn't get golden scores, because everyone who did get him will have him as captain.

Ablett is a key.. 1f he gets 150 a match(which he will) and hes ur cap then thats 300 points, possible already 100 points up on ur oppenent.. and every zero he gets will just make it that bit harder...

rememebr ablett got 254 last year.... thats 500 points thats a 300 kick start over ur opponent...
He is a freak U MUST have him no matter what he costs!!!

fyfebe

lol i remember that 250odd round, me and my opponent both had him, i had him capt, my opponent didnt :P

i ended up winning the round by like 54pts

i think he's worth a punt. if you're gonna spend top dollar on a premium mid it might as well be the best. I do think Judd can get close to his average this year. Last year he had a run of games where he scored immensely, to me his average could of been 140ish if injuries didnt plague him. But you're always gonna get little injuries when you cop that kind of attention.
