Is Taranto actually worth it? He's worth 207k, this is 80 grand more than other rookies.

Jimmykidd

these other rookies you speak of.. where are they?

Goosey

Generally the 200K rookies end up being expensive failed exercises as 123K rookies pop up and outscore them, having said that Taranto is in my team at F6 (currently)!

Ringo

basically it comes to how you spend the 80K and what extra points you gain- Taranto I think will average 85/90 meaning a possible $250k rise but all be it slow. However if you use that on a rookie who still may go 70/80 price rise is more and quicker.
I am still tossing up which of WHE and Taranto to start.

Kid will be very good and I'm 50/50 on him because there should be enough much cheaper rookies who will make more cash quicker

I'd say very unlikely he averages that. I posted this list on the rookie thread but it's worth noting that no other first year player in history has registered that average over the course of a season. O'meara averaged 90 but spent a year playing NEAFL whilst GC prepared for their AFL debut.

Andrew Gaff - 61
Jordan Lewis - 62
Bryce Gibbs - 63
Angus Brayshaw - 65
Trent Cotchin - 66
Harley Bennell - 68
Marc Murphy - 70
Isaac Heeney - 70
Clayton Oliver - 70
Jack Viney - 71
Nat Fyfe - 72
Brett Deledio - 74
Ollie Wines - 75
Callum Mills - 77
Dustin Martin - 77
Joel Selwood - 77
Marcus Bontempelli - 78
David Swallow - 79
Dyson Heppell - 83
Jaeger O'Meara - 90 *was held back a year due to GC inception

Is there any rookie below 180k in the fwd line that you would ACTUALLY be happy starting week-in, week-out?

Picket, Eddy, Houston are all very likely to put in 40-50 pt games and destroy their BE's whereas I'm sure taranto will be a lot more consistent and at least score 60 each week.

I think 70 is achievable for taranto, given the class in the GWS side, which is better than I can say for any other fwd rookie.

Spot on, bully.

Come season's end, a good return for a premium rookie is 70. Whilst we won't have him for the full season, I don't expect his avg to be much higher at the beginning either

Good points

I think most agree Taranto is the best scorer but it's going to come down to points vs dollars

I lean towards points which is why I lean towards Taranto, but what happens when Conigs and Lids return soon?

Taranto really needs to play 7+ games in a row to pay off

Florent from the Swans seems to have decent JS given injuries and retirements at the Swans. He is in my side on field at the moment.

Miles from Hawthorn will get games. Butler looks to have ok JS from Richmond. Taranto has been excellent in pre-season and will play but is no certainty to keep his spot given the depth of talent they have on their list.

You're right in saying that his JS is not as solid as other fwd rookies but it's not as if he hasn't impressed the coaching staff over the JLT. Coming back and kicking that goal after buddy flattened him won him huge brownie points.

So most teams have one, maybe two, fwd rookies starting and if you have the option of starting Taranto, but you're worried about JS...then go sidways to Hoskin-Elliot. Turner, Florent, Eddy, Houston will all score showerhouse and do not at all warrant a starting position. Those players belong on the bench.

Luv stirring - But to be fair based on my calculations where he averaged 113ppg per 100 minutes played in JLT think he is capable of 85 but whether or not he gets there is problematical. Won't go into all my little spread sheet calculations but like to do an average based on 100 minutes.
