Round 1 Fixture

El Paso Pioneers v Washington Senators
El Paso when through a fairly decent turnover of players in the off season and also lost their coach Tdog, they were in limbo for awhile with a caretaker coach stepping in for drafting purpose and then there were players running amok on whilst on holiday overseas, enter newly appointed head coach Barra,he quickly laid down the law and got the boys back on track after their top of the ladder finish last season and then subsequent failure to progress to the grand final.
Washington were last years wooden spooners and were extremely quiet during the trading period, seems coach popes has faith in his men bouncing back after a poor year,he gains back his main ruck in Ryder which could make some difference, unfortunately he has copped an injury to Coniglio who had a very good season last year for Washington, his young midfield brigade could be rather dangerous with the old hands of Barlow and Goddard leading them.
The dramas of the off season might come back and haunt El Paso but for round 1 I can see them grabbing a win here

Calgary Fireflies v Springfield Isotopes
This should be a very interesting clash, both teams have gone through a big turnover of players in the offseason and both are rebuilding teams.
Springfield finally looks like a team that can compete after coaches Rids and Nostra made great use of the trade period and pulled in some decent players as well as some good depth which was lacking before, they showed they could very well make the top 8 after a nice win in the preseason cup.
Calgary coming off back to back premierships went into full rebuild mode, offloading many older players and grabbing a lot of youth during the trade and draft periods.I can see them possibly slipping out of the 8 this year but you never know.
Very tight call but Springfield to grab a round 1 win

Los Angeles Kings v Bermuda Tiger Sharks
LA have been quite in the trade period for the past 2yrs,they slipped from the 8 last year mainly because they lost key players to suspension, they still remained fairly competitive tho and now they gain these players back this year which could boost their chances to play finals this year.
Coach KB did what he needed to in the trade period to boost a few lines after loosing the grand final last season,a change of scenery and team name could do wonders for the boys formerly from Nicaragua and they should again play finals this season.
This one is a tough one to pick but LA to just edge out Bermuda with HGA

Roswell Aliens v Dallas Coyotes
Roswell made a few changes during the offseason, they made a play for Ben Graham medalist Patrick Dangerfield and manged to obtain his services but at the expense of young gun forward Toby Greene,Roswell is confident however that one of their other young forwards can fill his void.Adding to Dangerfield they secured Luke Dalhaus and Zach Merrett in an attempt to boost their midfield and utility spots,Roswell defence could be their downfall after losing Corey Enright to retirement, they need their other boys to step up and fill the void left by Enright.
I will be blunt here and say that Dallas choked badly last season, they had finals right there and failed at the last to grab a spot, coach Atto surprisingly held back from a clean out and just did enough during trade period to boost the team in hope they can push into the 8 this season.Hopefully he has worked the players hard during the preseason, dangling what could have been in front of them to motivate them to push hard all season and not drop off at the pointy end.
Roswell should be too strong in this one but stranger things have happened.

Guadalajara Pirates v Arizona Scorpions
Arizona whilst fairly active during trade period, did trades that boosted their depth and added some youth rather than improving their best team, they did add Todd Goldstein to their ruck division to back up Grundy and seems quite a few of their players are up for position changes this season such as star midfielder Jackson Macrae who looks likely to move up forward.
Guadalajara boosted their midfield some more by adding young gun Dom Sheed to their list,Sheed looks poised for a great season after spending much of last year on the sidelines injured, word from coach Nige is he has been tearing up the preseason for his new team and is a certain starter for the Pirates in round 1.Nat Fyfe will need to keep on the park this season if the Pirates are any chance to remain in the 8 and push further into the finals.Ellis and Lecras are 2 players who nee to fine some form after being passengers for the Pirates most of last season.
With Arizona looking like they will be missing a couple of key players,I can see Guadalajara winning this if their players can put last seasons issues behind them

Hawaii Hydro Bombs v Bolivia Condors
Hawaii went hard during trade period, after falling short the past couple of years in finals, coach Elephants pulled out all stops to try and get the team to the grand final this season adding Dayne Zorko,Dayne Beams to boost his midfield and Bernie Vince to boost his defence whilst still adding some young guns to the depth as well. Will Hawaii finally manage to crack the bigtime this season.
Bolivia coach PK continued to build his list on from last season where the team made the 8 for this first time after a mini rebuild.I expect them to improve on last seasons effort with the additions of some solid players such as Ablett,Pittard,K Jack and Lloyd to help them along in the pursuit to the ultimate goal of the grand final.
Hawaii should win this one with HGA helping them but it would not surprise me to see Bolivia grab the win here

Players challenging for selection which is good, got no clue who my best team is atm but defenders are stronger than last year even without Docherty while Aaron Hall hopefully can be a beast this season and not get dropped

Nothing like the opponent naming 2 former players as capt and VC

Do we still name emgs in preference order still or just def/mid/ruck/fwd?

Jordan De Goey the absolute idiot...

LF

#6
Yeah name emergencies in preference order
And you don't have to have def/fwd/ruck/mid as emergencies can be any combination of positions as some may not have a ruck to name or have one named as a U

LF

Have fixed the OP now in regards to emergencies, didn't check properly when copy and pasting from one of last years threads

Atto

Great effort on the write ups LF! Hopefully we don't choke for a third year in a row!
