Henry Schade and Mason Cox

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-03-15/rookies-to-grab-senior-chance-at-magpies

COLLINGWOOD has promoted rookies Henry Schade and Mason Cox to its senior list ahead of its opening round clash against the Western Bulldogs.

Former Gold Coast defender Schade, 23, has mounted his case for round one selection, after vying with ex-Demon Lynden Dunn, based on his consistent performances across the pre-season series.

Schade, who was delisted after playing 20 games in five seasons with Gold Coast, was a solid contributor in all three JLT Community Series games.

The Magpies selected the 197cm key defender with pick No.24 in last year's Rookie Draft and already that investment appears to be paying off.

Schade positions himself well in marking contests and takes a proactive approach to defending within the Magpies' backline structure â€" two qualities the club values highly.

Cox, the American-born ruckman, kicked 17 goals from 11 matches in 2016 as he established himself as a key member of the Magpies' side.

The 25-year-old kicked four goals in three JLT Series matches proving to be a dangerous target up forward, especially when utilising his 211cm frame in marking contests, and a valuable complement to Brodie Grundy in the ruck.

Tendai Mzungu

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-03-17/its-tendais-time-exdocker-upgraded-to-gws-senior-list

FORMER Docker Tendai Mzungu has been elevated to Greater Western Sydney's senior list to fill the opening created when ruckman Tom Downie was placed on the long-term injury list.

After playing 102 games at Fremantle from 2011-16, Mzungu joined GWS in last year's rookie draft at pick No.15 overall.

The 31-year-old midfielder is now firmly in contention to make his club debut for the Giants in their round one clash against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, March 26.

GWS revealed on Thursday Downie had occasionally spent time away from the club in recent months because of mental health issues, with the decision to move him to the long-term injury list made to allow him to focus on getting the support he needs.

With GWS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio (ankle), Brett Deledio (calf) and Matt de Boer (hamstring) all set to miss games early in the season, and youngster Jacob Hopper (back) having played just a half of footy in the reserves last week, Mzungu's experience and versatility could play in his favour when Leon Cameron picks his best 22 to face the Crows.

Mzungu gathered 22 possessions and kicked a goal in his only appearance of the JLT Community Series against West Coast.
