He was so impressive last night. Probably best on. But have to remember its JLT and game one. I cant see enough upside in him to start over the crazy amount of good options down back this  year

Yeah and it's hard to get 18 if you pick more than 2 from each line that are Round 11

You can afford to be 12 short heading into any particular week if you use your trades right. We have 30 players in total, if you had 5 defenders missing, 4 mids, 1 ruck and 4 forwards you can just get away with it.

5+4+1+4 is 15, 3 trades is 12 which gives you you're 18. When you start managing byes you want to probably make sure you take the smallest hit in round 11 as they are the ideal guys to trade to, but it's not going to prevent me from picking Doc/Simmo/Joey in defense, Hanners/Murphy in the midfield and Macrae/Dahl/NRoo up forward if I think they are the best available guys to start the season.

And forget about Tuohy, the reason the Cats recruited him is because they get routinely gashed by small forwards. Ruggles is meh, Bews is not an AFL footballer and Mackie is ageing. Zach has been pretty good as a shut down guy.

He can kick the ball, but he is not a natural accumulator of the pill. The only thing that helps him is they don't really have a class kick along the half back line so they might look to get him to dish it off as often as possible. Having said that, while he is a great kick he is not a fantastic decision maker and gets tunnel vision. You're probably looking at a 90 average and will get the same if not better from Hibberd/Bob Murphy at a discount rate.

Nah, you gotta look at the byes, especially Round 11 this year

Doch, Simmo, Montagna, Bob, JJ, Boyd, TMac to name a few

Bont, JPK, Hanners, Parker, Rocky, Beams, Cripps, Murphy

Gawn, Martin

Dahl, Macrae, NROO, Buddy

Good Luck "picking whoever you want" from that group and not getting burnt in Round 11
Tmac, Rocky, JPK (was originally Sloaney doe), Gawn, Dahl. After some cheap rookies hopefully get named round 1, Tmac will probs become Laird (although Caddy may become Macrae). I'm pretty fine with that :P

Well he has a R12 bye which I am finding difficult with players this year lets see how he goes in coming games

My approach to the byes has always been to ignore them. Despite what The Phantom says. I think you need to pick the best players you think are available full stop. Your team will change so much between now and the byes there's no point thinking about them now. Who knows what you will have by then? If a guy is the best option just pick him. You can half worry about they byes 2-3 weeks out.   I've won my 'regular' league 3 times and was top 1% last year so not just talking through my hat, I think.

To me it is trying not to use 1/3 of my trades during the bye period and more fixing it up 2 or 3 weeks before I have been playing for 7 years now and have finished top 1% 5 times and top 100 once ignore them at your own peril

Big guy over here  ;D

Another 120+ score today making that 2 from 2

Is he the real Boris replacement capable of going 90+ after years of averaging 70's?

Or is he doing a Lumumba and sucking us all in?

Very tempting, but I also made the lumumba error. Enough reliable defenders to choose from for me to risk it on him

NAB 2 2016 - Carlton vs Essendon

Zach Tuohy 132

NAB 3 2016 - Carlton vs Sydeny

Zach Tuohy 95

Week 1 he scored 30 odd but I think it was in a hell of a lot less game time.

When the real stuff comes around and they need someone to shut down Ballantyne/Walters they will turn to Tuohy. He was brought in largely because Jed Bews is a spud and they need someone capable of playing on those small forwards.

RaisyDaisy

Not sure that's why they got him

Pretty sure they wanted a replacement for Enright, and the role he is playing so far is confirming that it seems

Mat0369

Thurlow was the guy they touted as the Enright replacement before he did his knee. They still need someone that can play on those small forwards and Tuohy is the guy. Assuming Thurlow and Guthrie also run through half back they should have options, but it is definitely an area they were exposed. Ruggles wasn't great once he got to AFL level and Bews is a VFL player at best.

he's on a better team, and i think he'll go low 90's at max.. which is great at that price.
i'm gonna go cheaper in the backs as they tend to score less on average

He was in the back line last year that produced the top 2 SC scorers in the position.....

He will need to win more of the pill on a consistent basis and probably go up to 25 touches a game to average close to the top 15 guys at 90 points per game. The top 4 last year averaged north of 100 and the next two weren't far off.

Exactly right. Ever think that they might have been filling the two SC friendly backman slots at Carlton? The same role that Enright and Kelly played for Geelong in 2015, Enright and Bartel in 2016... and who in 2017? Tuohy and I would guess Thurlow. Geelong-mad brother seems pretty sure of it too.

He's not a Lumumba but he won't be an Enright either, probably, but he could go alright. Still won't be picking him.
