Just looking at the 'mid priced' players who haven't played much over the last year and have earned themselves the discounts.

(So mostly the bombers hah)

Obviously you don't want to pick too many of these guys for your team as they won't be earning enough cash, nor likely to be a year long premo - but you may opt for 1 or 2 of them, in which case, who would you choose, who would you avoid and discuss why.

If i've missed any you wish to point out, go for it.

Defenders
Rob Murphy - 486,000
Michael Hurley - 447,000
Michael Hibberd - 428,000
Jake Carlisle - 359,000

Midfielders
Dyson Heppell - 548,000
Dayne Beams - 519,000
Jobe Watson - 477,000
David Swallow - 355,000
Jaeger O'Meara - 364,000

Forward
Pat Ryder - 411,000
Roughead - 373,000

Me personally. At this stage I'm looking at Heppell as possibly the only sub 600k player who has a shot of being a top10 end of year player.

I'm also likely to take Patty Ryder in the FWD line as I like having 1 RUC/FWD player so I can rotate if my one of my premo rucks take a 1 week suspension or injury, I hate having to burn trades on rucks.

Currently have Hibberd,, Heppell, Beams, Swallow and Ryder...but some of them will definitely get the chop.

Thunderbolts

currently have heppell and ryder in my side...might add beams if his pre-season stays good

Locked
David Swallow - 355,000
Pat Ryder - 411,000

Probably
Dayne Beams - 519,000

Maybe
Roughead - 373,000

pommyadam

considering: Hibberd, Watson, Beams, Heppell
locked if through preseason: Swallow, Roughead
will wait for form first: O'Meara, Hurley

pass:
Ryder - what do people see in him? it's has to be the DPP only - I'd rather a TBoyd for 100k cheaper
Carlisle - he might be really underpriced, but when has he ever been DT relevant?

Peter

Simple - look at Ryder's prior season scores and now has No 1 position - Boyd does. Ot

Jukes

People really still sleeping on Stants even when cheap?

Thunderbolts

Ryder is Port's number 1 Ruckman. That's where he's been training this pre season.

My sources tell me Trengove who was filling in last season has actually been down training in the fwd group and hasn't been down with the backs as he usually would of prior to 2016.

I'm backing Ryder to have a big year and make $$ in AF.

Trengove will be the pinch hitter when Ryder needs a break.

What happens with Lobbe? Most expensive SANFL player in the history of the AFL, for how many more years?

WhatMate

Have currently got; Hibberd, Heppell, Swallow, Ryder, Roughead.

JOM is due back week 4-7? So will be a good upgrade/downgrade/Sideways around then of course.

Agree with ya but Lobbe doesn't have any currency now...Port should of off-loaded him when they had the offer at the end of 2015 for him..

With cheap mids being an issue I have gone mid price madness in the mdifield. Mid 4-8 I have Murphy, Scooter, O'Meara and Swallow. It's probably worth the risk considering what they are all priced and if one fails (Selwood my biggest worry) I can either downgrade or use DPP on another line.

Sweet Chilli

My discounted midpricers at the moment are O'Meara and Swallow in the mids. Then Roughy up forward. The only other midpricers that I have are Nank in the ruck and at the moment Phillips in the forwards. But he might change.

I think lots of the discounted players prices will go up. But by how much, who knows. I had scooter in my team early but as I haven't seen him in the JLT yet. I've moved him on. He is hopefully playing this weekend. If he does maybe he plays round one. Wait and see. I don't think Murphy will get back to his elite status. Though he should be 95-100 imo.
