For all those saying Sandilands isn't or wasn't a ''must have'' love the hindsight btw.
No one is a must have if injured before R1 so that's plain silly.

Now injury aside, tell me what other 300k player has a scoring history like Sandilands?
3rd man up gone so that's another win for the giant power ruckmen.
First 6 of 7 games at home so nearly no chance of rest early plus good scoring potential.

Now look yourself in the mirror and ask if Sandllands was fit and firing during the JLT leading into R1 if he wouldn't be a must have.

If he had no injury in the preseason i still wouldnt pick him you dont muck around in the ruck with 1 bench who probably doesnt play. I dont like ryder so wont compromise on r2 and f3.

Goldy i reckon can go 115 but is priced at sub 110. Gawn is pricey and might drop but i expect 21-22 games and a 110+ average.

Sandi is massively injury prone last few years and is 34 years old and carries a huge body around. Even if he stays healthy you assume they rest him abit. Lets say he has a good year misses 2-3 games and averages 100. Those games he misses drops his average more.

Then lets say worse case he goes 90 95 then injured on 13. What do you do with a 300k ruck. Do you desperately punt on witts. Double trade so a premo mid to a mid price gamble and sandi to goldy.

Triple trade wirh premo to rookie. Sandi to goldy and then use the 250k on another trade.

Thing with Sandi though Holz is that freo play first 7 of 9 games at home and fly across to Adelaide in the other two games so not a long flight. You'd assume no need to rest as they will go hard to win all their early home games in order to rest him up later.

Averaging 100 in those first lot of games will easily see him rise enough to upgrade with not much cash required. The new ruck rules suits him down to a tee. He will get first palm at the footy 9/10 times and the ball will fall straight into Fyfe, Neale or even Mundy's hands. He will get a massive amount of HOA. Let's not forget it's not just Sandi returning but the best mid in the comp too. Freo will be a much better team this year.

You wouldn't hold onto him for the year because it's guaranteed he won't play all 22. Just need him to play the first 9 or 10. Getting his injury last year could happen to anyone, was a freak accident. I also don't see Goldy doing massively well early at this stage and he's had an Interrupted preseason so you could say the same case applies to him being risky. Just age difference and not as prone. I'm hoping a Sandi -> Goldy trade will cost me $100k.

Yeah I reckon if fit come round 1 Sandi will be a good pick - but his injury risks certainly mean he is not a 'must-have' player. With hindsight he could look that way, but we'll see how we go.

Must-have is an extremely over and incorrectly used term

it is hard to go past Sandi as I great value pick with an upgrade come round 10 or earlier to whoever is looking good behind Gawn.    Could be Grundy, Mummy, Goldy or even Ryder.    Only problem is having to start Ryder for cover.    though worst case scenario ryder avg 85 and you are 200 points down for the year over an alternative Fwd starter.   Sandi can make a at least 100 of that back before being upgrade.

So minimum downside,  with option to trade Sandi to Roughy or equivalent and swap Ryder into Ruck Cover if it all goes pear shaped.   If it goes well. pick up goldy for 500k miss his low scores and end up 100 pts up on opposition.   As well as being able to afford more superprems on mids or starting Doc or Shaw in defence.

Roughy doesn't look like he has missed a beat. Kicking is crisp and he is playing everywhere. Lock and load!

Curious, why are people legitimately saying Danger and Pendles are must haves? They aren't improving their average, they'll probably drop if anything.

Like I wouldn't say they're bad picks but must have is a bit extreme, I'd reserve that for the cheap/bargain/mid-priced guys who are bound to do great, awesome rookies, etc.
both missus are pregas and may miss a game for the birth

You probably can re-do this list weekly up until round 1. The one I posted a couple of weeks back is out of date.
