Anyone considering Zak Jones or am I just crazy?  :P
Was on him very early on.  Like the prospect of midfield minutes.  Has been in and out of my team since then, the price point isn't very friendly.

And he tags. Steer clear.
What makes you think he'll be the one to tag?  Is it just that the Swans need someone to do that job?  I haven't heard anything about him being used as a tagger.

Jones has been given tagging duties before, lowest scores in 2016 were 21, 23, 34, 42, 45, & 46. These are rookie scores and the fact he passed 80 only twice last year should be enough evidence to steer clear. Jones is a mid price trap.

Its obvious that he's been mooted for a role change. Those scores were when he was playing as a lockdown back pocket. His best position is as an aggressive inside mid.

Your reason for passing on him is you do not believe his role will be regular and secure enough to warrant selection - and thats fair enough.

His scoring is not an issue when played in a role through the midfield.

You should probably pick players on what you expect them to score, not what they scored in the past. As the great Ross Lyon often says "the past is irrelevant".

Sure but 31 games of football with only 1 ton is a huge concern. There's no way in this world that Jones will be able to compete with the likes of Shaw, Docherty, Simpson, Montagna, Laird, Adams etc, and he's too awkwardly priced for a cash cow. You'd be better off selecting Bob Murphy for an extra 80k.

The great Ross Lyon?
Really?

I agree though....many players start out as taggers before becoming handy mids....

Most recent Exhibit A: Cognilio 2 years ago

A lot of players apprenticeship is undertaken as a tagger...Its a coaching thing .... learn from the best, learn their movements, learn what it takes to become elite

however, I'm still waiting for Sheils from the Hawks to benefit from this

I had Shiels every year before his career year, didnt pick him that year, but jeez if Mitchell and JOM both werent so cheap and had the ability to averaged huge numbers i may have just picked Shiels

Yeah...totally agree, Ive been waiting for him to get a good opportunity but its fair to say the recruitment of TMitch and JOM are a big statement to what the coaching staff think Shiels is capable of

Mind you....

You would have to be a fair player to have TMitch and JoM's number .....I wouldn't be surprised to see Langford (probably not as he has CP potential), O Rourke (injured) or one of the other plodders to take over Shiels role

The thing is Sheils is a good tagger....but he has served an amazing extended apprenticeship under or alongside SMitch, Lewis, Hodge, Burgoyne and many other handy players like Sewell

He has played on the likes of Ablett and Judd many times

Or has he been carried over the years?

I guess in football terms he is reaching his prime right now - he seems pretty durable...definitely is a POD Ive considered the last few years

Gee......maybe I should get him in...this year might be the year

Anyone getting tempted by Steele?

He was in and out of my side 12 months ago as a breakout contender, but I reckon this might be the year

Not a lot of great forward options this year, and at only 347k I think he can go 90+ which is good enough for fwd this year, and his DPP is handy too

Don't generally like mid pricers and breakout contenders, but at his price and the lack of forwards I reckon it would be an easy fix if it doesn't work out

Has anyone jumped on?

Me.

I have Steele at F4.  8)

Even though I was initially against it I'm tempted. The Saints play a high possession style of football and I can see him having a similar season to Ross last year.

I've gone off Roughy and all the other mid pricer options so starting Steele slightly defeats the purpose but I need one. It's basically come down to Steele and SPP on field vs O'Meara and Parfitt on field.

I reckon Steele will be a good pick mate.

Seems to have a role right in the guts and is a tackling machine to boot!  8)

Yeah, I rate him. I've got him F6 at the moment

:o

That must be one of the strongest forward lines going around if you have Steele at F6.

My forward line is Dahlhaus, Higgins, Ryder, Steele, Hoskin-Elliot, Taranto (Eddy, Houston)

I'm happy with that. WHE and Taranto should be good enough at F5 and F6 till upgrade time.  8)

Yeah, gone fairly hard fwd with Sandiwitts ruck, but some midprice/POD speculation of course...

Dahl, Buddy, Greene, Higgins, Nank, Steele (Pickett, Eddy)

Cudos, that's a great forward line mate.

Yeah a bit risky with Witts at R2. Hope it pays off for you.  :P

I had Witts at R2 for a while but ended up going with Nankervis and Sandilands at R1 and R2 in the end with Ryder in the forward line as ruck support.

RaisyDaisy

Locked in Steele ever since I posted that

Richo loves him, was a beast as a junior and would have broken out last year if he played for any other club.

F6 for me too
