Are there 3 secure rookies And 2 cash generating bench options ? I can't see them

Mat, I like the idea of just having those 3 but again like Eagles raised I cannot see how you are going to find 5 rookies to fill out the line. I think we have to have 4 starters in the forwards at a minimum this year

You're looking for a total of 5 guys from this list

Weideman
Smedts
Hoskin-Elliot
Taranto
Wagner
McCarthy
McCluggage
Knight
Ainsworth
White***
Thomas
Menzel
Turner
Bowes
Stewart
Florent
Simpkin
Schoenmakers
Gallucci
Black
Hardwick
Butler
Durdin
McKay
Miles
Pickett
LeBois
Eddy
Begley
Cameron
Daicos

A few of those guys are pricier and personally I wouldn't be picking a Weideman or Smedts taking into account their price and scoring potential, but I see a ton of guys ready to potentially line up round 1.

With respect half that list are not in the frame for round 1/or won't justify the price of selection.

I'm going with Schoey, Black, Eddy, Cameron down forward.

Obviously room to downgrade if cheaper rooks come about.

But think Black could turn out to be a spud. Might keep him as a bench spot but think he'll be a slow slow burner.

It's the same discussion every year and there are generally a ton of rookies that line up round 1. McLuggage, Ainsworth and Taranto will all line up round 1 barring injury. I'd maybe only take one out of that bracket. Cam McCarthy will play every game for the Dockers barring injury, but he is probably a tad expensive. I'd bank on one of Pickett or LeBois lining up round 1, Sumner looks to be out of favour and there is a pressure forward spot available at Carlton.

Turner, Schoenmakers, Black and Harry McKay should line up round 1. The role they play all leads to inconsistent scoring but there are 4 guys alone.

If Durdin, Simpkin and Wagner play the way they did last week they will have a spot round 1 for the Roos. Durdin can take a key post down back since Hansen looks cooked and they could do with playing him to take over from Scott Thompson. The other two are probably both fighting for a half forward spot.

Begley looks like he could be a Mitch McGovern type this year for the Dons. They lack forward power and if he has a strong game I'd say he is going to push for selection.

Butler looked good for Richmond and could push for selection while Adelaide have a lot of question marks over injured players and a spot could be open for Menzel if he pulls his finger out.

I'm meh on Black but Geelong have a habit of playing a stupid amount of talls in their forward line since they are desperate to find someone to play next to Hawkins.

I'm thinking Turner, Black, Pickett, Bowes and Eddy as place holders for the time being. When I get another look at guys like Butler and the GC boys next week I'll start to make some decisions.

Bully

Strategically Butler would be a great option, especially if you have a Ryder/Strnadica set up. Can forward loop for the first 3 weeks.

A slow burning spud ?  :P

RaisyDaisy

Problem with that list is that most of them are expensive, which I don't want as history shows they don't make much cash or they do but take a very long time and the cheaper ones you have mentioned are mostly SC spuds who will score 40-60 most games

5 opens you up to poor point scoring and overspending on higher priced players

I'll be doing everything I can to pick 4 cheapo's and that's it

Mat0369

Weits and Mills instantly pop into my head from last year that were in that price range and were worth picking.

Right now none of my 5 are over 200k and we're looking at a line that 90 might be a top a good forward F6. I'd rather use the cash in the midfield where there are more points to be lost.

You only need these guys to have one big game for them to spike enough in price before trading them out. I'd rather pick guys like Taranto, Turner and Schoenmakers in the forward line with Doc, Adams down back for for a total of 1,653,200 then pick Tuohy, Mills, Heeney, Nank and start Black on the field for 1,800,100.

Points wise you're looking at 70+60+60+105+100 for a total of 395 to maybe 90+90+90+75+60 for 405. That extra 100k could be used for a bigger gain in the midfield.

Mills will be top 10 just saying

Disagree Eagles

he'll avg low 90's at max... and thats good for his price

Sandi and O'meara are a good chance to average over 100 for a 300k spend so why risk a young break out player to upstage 2 tried and tested scorers? seems like a large risk for very little reward.

different positions, you can still have Sandi/JOM/Swallow/Roughy too.
Mills @ D3/D4 is perfect. wont be a top 10 DEF but i really do see him getting low 90's.
thats a 10 point jump which is great for his price.
