Thoughts on hamish Hartlett??

If he is locked into a mid role again then he could breakout, expect him to be played in both over the JLT and used as a stop gap during the season.

He has the early bye, so factor in you need to cover with a rookie for that week. As such if he as moved back to the mids and looks keeper material you can upgrade to him after the bye and have the extra player for the bye weeks.

He was touted to be leaving during the offseason, how will this have affected his mind and that of his teammates.

At his price IMO he is too risky to start as he could be the Rich of 2017 and be stuck in your team averaging 75-80.

Then you have the movements over the offseason
John Butcher (del)
Alipate Carlile (ret)
Sam Colquhoun (del)
Kane Mitchell (del)
Cam O'Shea (del)
Jay Schulz (del)
Paul Stewart (del)
They brought in 4 draftees (3 Mid & 1 FWD) & upgraded Cracker.

Looking at the squad IMO there is really a lack of Defenders that can play that plus 1 role with the efficiency of Hartlett, yet they have quite a lot of depth in that fringe midfield range with the likes White, the new draftees, Cracker, Wingard, Toumpas all possible options.

I'm writing a profile on him for the next one.

this is a good discussion of Hammer.  It will be interesting to see his role with Broadbent, DBJ and Pittard down back as well.  All similar players who have played plus 1 before, and can score well in this position.  Reckon that's why they shopped him around.  Now they have to find a role that works.  Maybe that means he ends up on a wing, or back in MIDs

They didn't shop him around. Hartlett put in the trade request. Which is concerning given he only just signed a long term deal.

Broadbent and Hartlett shared the plus 1 duties last year, but also rotated off the wing, so it doesn't fill me with much confidence he will be returning to mid full time even if he does
DBJ is a lockdown defender before anything else
Pittard is the rebounder, his role is pretty much independent of Hartlett.

Someone like a Logan Austin would be the one I could see come into the defence.

Heeney will not be in my starting fwds.   Just do not see how he can score consistently and hold down one of my fwd keeper spots.   If he gets a gig as full time mid and starts scoring I could consider him...    ATM it is a no.     Mills falls into same category.   I hvae given up trying to pick early break out players.  Too many missed to hits at that game.

Been doing a little more looking into Heeney as i want to move Franklin out of my team due to the injury interrupted preseason While I can see why people think he is underpriced, and id agree, the so called move to the midfield is unlikely to cause that much of an improvement.

The argument by some
Heeney, who has all the tools to become the complete midfielder, posted three scores in excess of 120 last season and is the fourth-most popular SuperCoach forward right now. And rightly so.

Yet when you look at those scores
18 possessions, 4 goals
22 possessions, 9 marks, 5 goals
25 possessions, 8 marks, 3 goals
All were from the forward line when he kicked bags,

He had 2 games where he had 12 & 13 tackles respectively yet only scored 80 & 61
He had 12/20 scores under 80

All of this is not really filling me with confidence that a move to the mids will push him into premium territory.

Agree he is an interesting prospect but one I am considering (along with Hodgey). After reading about McGrath, I am leaning more now towards finding those sub-premium Defenders to save some cash but also to ensure that I don't have too many players not playing!

I probably prefer him for DT atm, and I'm one of the biggest fans of Sir Daniel of Caleb on this site :P

Thoughts on Tom Boyd as a cheaper alternative to Ryder and a stepping stone. ..surely he has to progress a little this year? !

Id avoid. I think he can take a step forward as a player, but dont think he is a great supercoach option. May increase 5-10 points per game, but thats not enough for me.

Check his scores and stats from last year, very unimpressive. Even his Grand Final score was average considering what he put down on the stat sheet. Rather invest in Cloke

A no from me not very good at all to start at F3 where you want an average of at least 85 early. However I am keeping an eye on Nankervis especially how Tigers will use him at the new club and he may be the one to replace Ryder,

This is putting it well - his grand final breakout is widely touted as the best game of his career by far, and he only scored 99. Even if he does continue that form and start playing better and more consistently, what can he average? 65-70? Not enough.

Bubbles

Dayne Zorko 0.7% ownership, anyone think he can roll with the big guns in the midfield this year? Only scored under 90 twice last year

Ringo

If Beams is fully fit he will take up some of Zorkos points. Priced at $593k which I think is a little much.  Zorko will inevitably do something stupid and get suspended as well.

For me it's looking like Sloaney vs JPK for that M5 spot...may go with Sloaney
