Always questions about POD's and Breakouts and whether they're worth it. Always interesting to see who pops up!

I'll get the ball rolling with Jeremy Howe...

Rounds 3-6 - Spent Up Forward
Disposals: 12.5
Marks: 4.5
R50: 0
SC Points: 57.8

Round 7-23 - Spent Down Back
Disposals: 20.9
Marks: 7.8
R50: 3.7
SC Points: 100.6

Made shift down back and would've had 5th highest average if he stayed there from the start. So the way i see it he's underpriced... Collingwood, for me, recruited Mayne to keep Howe down back as he was a bit of a revelation for us. I also don't think having him and Adams is too many collingwood players as Ramsay and Langdon going down early forced Adams back to add a cool head there, so expecting Adams to return as a pure midfielder.
What are everyone's thoughts?

Peter

There should be 3 keeper defenders in your starting team. Is he one, at his price compated to returning players? Watch the pre-season as Keefe played forward the other day. Could be a good POD

Only thing is Keefe is cheap and if he lines up round 1 everybody will have him so he won't be a POD

He's saying if Keeffe plays fwd then Howe could be a good pod

Ringo

Keeffe started as a forward for Pies then was thrown back where he made his mark on the team.

The entire Collingwood backline will be built around Keefe

He is their only genuine KPP down there now

As for breakouts, I'm not even going to bother - tried that last year and the reward is not worth the risk

As for POD's, there's going to be heaps. Personally I'm going with TMac down back and I think JPK will be a bit of a POD who I will also be going with

No funny business for me this year - proven guns, fallen prems and rookies

A lot of players who could be top 10 def, he'd have to average 95+ at least

i reckon he's a better pick than some of the other premiums and returning players... Currently have Adams, Laird, Howe. Can't see how keefe back impacts on howe, different players

Dunn is just plugging a hole for a year or two. Keefe at 26 will be "the man". Point being, he is best 22 and a lock

From Round 8-23 he averaged 99, rarely going below 80 and averaged mid 90's the year before. At 488k I like him as a POD and expect him to be Top 10

I got caught up in the Lonergan/Sutcliffe breakout fever last season, which backfired badly.

As this is the first year in some time that Supercoach is almost uncompromised in pricing due to an external factor (The Essendon top-ups, the expansion teams) there may be a need to utilize more mid-pricers if there is a shortage of rookie priced players come Round 1 (think how handy Dea/McDonald-Tippungwuti/Mitch Brown were Rd 1, with Hartley available Rd 2).  The hard part is nailing the right ones!

Personally I think even though it's still very early days, many coaches are overestimating how many rookies will actually line up Rd 1, and more importantly keep good enough JS to justify selecting them.  The GnR approach may require a bit of Mid-price madness this season

Peter

I agree - believe there won't be many rookie starters. Fallen premiums and mid-pricers will be needed IMO

_wato

Not fazed, these conversations happen every year.

Last year I got worried about a lack of defender rookies, loaded up more than I had to with premos and got bitten when there was a plethora of them playing early.

Won't have to worry about mids/fwds as there is plenty rookies to go around. It's always defence that everyone worries.

If every other year is to go by, I think you can be safe in finding 2 more rookies on top of McGrath, Keefe and Scharenberg. Logue/Newman/Ryan/Long/Berry to name a few off the top of my head.

I think there's quite a lot there

Injury or have played games:
Jake Kelly, Scharenberg, Lachlan Keefe, Hampton, Myers, Freeman, White, Jack, Black, Cunico, Pickett, K.Turner, Newman

First Years:
McGrath, Berry, Ryan, Stewart, Brodie, Powell-Pepper, Brown, Fisher, McCluggage, Ainsworth, Gallucci, Eddy

Obviously not all these guys will get a go rd 1 but there's enough, there's probably plenty who we all will be surprised to see named rd 1 as well, always happens.

Gigantor

I remember everyone stressing at the start of 2015, we had been spoiled for years with the glut of GC/GWS rookies and it was all doom and gloom :)

Then all of a sudden guys like McIntosh, Saad, Oxley, CEY, Miller, Lonie appeared and there was much rejoicing  ;D ;D ;D

(No my memory is not that good, I have a screenshot of my starting team saved :) )
