Got a short(long)list only at this point. Have a few locked in and plenty of others like Tom Mitchell vs Bont vs Rocky vs JPK that I'll agonise over up until round 1.

Gawn, Max   118.5
Goldstein, Todd   108.1
Martin, Stefan   89.7
Ryder, Patrick   77.4
Nankervis, Toby   67.9
Sandilands, Aaron   57.1
Witts, Jarrod   40.3
Strnadica, Luke   18.9

Set and forget? Don't think so, I love Sandilands too much and will be starting him. I want my players to be the top scorers in their position (keepers), or to get a 30 point price rise from them (none of this 15-20 point rise from Bob who'll then have to be traded anyway) and there's absolutely no reason why 211 won't average at least 87.1. He's not injury prone as he played 2 full seasons of 21 matches + 2 finals before NN thugged him.

I also love Witts and if Nichols gets an injury between now and round 1 I might go super cheap in the rucks as Witts is capable of a 70 average as #1 ruck. I might have had a look at Boyd but he's had shoulder surgery so that's a no-no.

For R1 I might have a crack at Stefan, possibly Max but probably Goldy. If I select Ryder it'll be up forward, as a keeper since he won't get the price rise I require and he won't be in the top rucks. Same for Nank if Richmond look like playing him as sole ruck.

...to be continued!

Potential Mid Cows

Play it safe and pick Andy McGrath at 212K (ave of 39) and get that 30 point price rise (should average 69) but there will need to be others in the same boat. Excluding first year players these lads are in the mix.

Harry Wigg - 22.9
Jarrod Pickett - 22.9
Jake Barrett - 23.7
David Myers - 24.8
Josh Thomas - 35.8
Fiorini - 51.7
Swallow - 51.9
De Boer - 55.2
CEY - 56.4
Ryan Clarke - 56.3
JOM - 59
Redden - 64.1
Beams - 79.5
MMurphy - 79.5

Is Dayne Beams really a lock? He'll need to average 110 to be worth it under my criteria. Certainly capable but I'd much prefer to take David Swallow for the certain cash generation. 105 and you're stuck with a below elite mid, and a guy who didn't make as much cash as you could have otherwise. Wouldn't mind 80 to 105 like Gibbs did in 2016 if I knew he'd play every game but I hightly doubt that Dayne will.

Having said that, I am me so there's a chance that I might spaz out and go with a million mid pricers like Beams, MM and Libba instead of 2 premos/1 rookie.

GWS's list doesn't run as deep as most people seem to think and De Boer is a goer and could score well if given a friendly role.
Ryan Clarke is a magnet and should have solid JS.

Jarrad Waite's hot start to the season will be replicated and he's one guy that I am considering starting even though it looks as if it's outside the rules. 126 average across the first 6 matches again will help me win (and it'll generate the required price rise in the process).

Only happened because north went 6-0... can't see that being the case. Flat track bully

The reason North went 6-0 is because Waite was fit and firing. His issue is he has never played well through injury, similar to that bald headed bloke at the Suns. The difference with Waite is he is injured often.

A fit Waite is as good as any forward getting around. Hopefully he can last 6 weeks before the niggles slow him, and hopefully he doesn't forget to take his brain with him on match day even though it's thoroughly entertaining when he does.

NRoo started like a house on fire a few years in a row and those who picked him reaped the rewards before his knee slowed him. I put Waite in the same boat.

As usual MM great explanation of your thinking.   MM and Beams look good options on paper until you see them up against a set of criteria like this.   When you add in the injury risk to Beams definitely makes you pause.   For many it will come down to money issue and if you only have limited amount then Beams and a rookie versus high 500K prem will be a better scoring option with potential upside against calculated risk.

Interesting options here MM.    You will be getting a jump on the pack if they all pay off for you.

Tom or Sam? I assume Tom but reckon Sam could also kill it in Perth, providing he doesn't cop the tag every week :p

Peter

Big call with Waite - injured at present?
