Short career, I don't know anything about his charges or the seriousness of them but
it seems as though Freo and or the AFL have told him to stand down, oh well, opportunity wasted.

valkorum

(I dont have any inside information)

If he is retiring then my thoughts are the case is pretty strong against him and he is potentially looking at going back to jail.

One of the Dr's at work who's a big Freo supporter said that 1 assault charge was against a family member, the other one he stabbed someone not fatally apparently.

valkorum

Yeh I also heard that a "stabbing" was one of the charges against him.

Stabbed someone with a broken bottle back in 2015

So he stabbed someone in 2015 and he played a full season in 2016...our legal system is awesome.  ::)

It is going to come to point where clubs wlll just put a line through indigenous players unless they have a squeaky clean history

was going to ask if you thought he was asked to 'step aside' ...

I forgot that he'd been in prison before - is that right??  :-X  :P

valkorum

Squeaky clean just means a person hides their mistakes & flaws better, there is a difference between minor non violent offenses and violent crimes.

I don't think the current headlines with a select few Indigenous players over the last few years will change clubs attitude towards recruiting.
The smarter clubs will continue to assess individuals personalities and temperament whether they be non indigenous or indigenous,
Freo took a gamble as they were desperate for a forward.

Plenty of white guys flower up too, just look at Cousins and some of those West Coast boys.
shower, if any of us had done the things Cousins has we'd be serving a few years and be lucky not to have been shot while in the act of or charged with some kind of bullshower terrorism offense for breaking into a military facility while high as a kite.

Cousins is not a good comparison most of his flowerups are post his career although he had drug problems whilst still playing he still managed to keep out of the limelight in general I'm talking about the % of indigenous players that are not coping in the AFL system , the % of indigenous players compared to non indigenous that flower up is the elephant in the room it's seems to be increasing ? clubs will assess players of course but they will be aware of what is happening

It's not as if Indigenous people having problems is unique to the AFL. Indigenous Australians make up 3% of the population but 30% of people in prison. Unfortunately I don't think the AFL can directly change this, but I really hope the pollies and society can get their act together to change this.

you are kidding aren't you!!!! Benny stayed out of the "Limelight".He was a walking head line for a long time.Only people behind the scenes and club denials and threats to the media stopped it from getting worse.Just ask Mark Duffiled.
Maybe rose coloured glasses!!!!
The Bennell non licence is a nothing. There are maybe thousands out there driving without licences.Yep not good but far from a hanging offence.Any one posting here drive with out one!!!!! BE honest now.
