A HOTA is a HOTA. 100 points on them alone. Stiffed

But my understanding is a HOTA is not simply a HOTA and worth 5 points each. One where the payer is tackled immediately might only be worth 1 or 2, one that leads to 1 clean possession might be 2-3, one that leads to a clearance and chain of effective possessions might be 4-5. So points scoring is different, however all of these show up on the stats sheet as a HOTA. I don't have a reference for this, sorry, but it's consistent with what I've noticed when watching matches and live scoring over the years. I think that's why Nank scored so well this week, many of his HOTA's lead to a chain of possessions. Happy to be proven wrong tho.

This is probably the most logical explanation. I wish Champion Data had an article or something like that each week which explains a few of the most unusual SC scores each week. Would go a long way in showing transparency.

Correct me if I am wrong but can vaguely remember when HOTA was introduced the definition was Hit to advantage finding a team mate forward. Not probably the right wording and from observations this appears to still be the case.

Happy with my Martilands ruck combo for Rd 1 with Nank at F4

shaker

Gawn Sandi and Nank no complaints

tor01doc

Wankilands / Witts / Strnadica - leaves me a lot of cash coming and allows me to see who will be top tier rucks and DPP intact.

Money saved (Mid pricers over Gawn / Goldie / Grundy) got me a premium mid - woo hoo.

PS - Premo mid just happens to be Hanners (can't win 'em all)

Memo have gawn sandi and nank. Pretty happy there.

But in all honesty the witts set up was definitely the way to go as the rookie situation is so ridiculously bad that those who have allocated their gawn money elsewhere will be able to navigate this situation with ease.

If it could go back in time I would choose he sits combo JUST.

I'd post the text but I'm on my phone. It's worth a read.

Paywalled.

In any case, most of those with the Wankilands set up will be angling for Gawn down the track. If the back keeps playing up it maybe sooner rather than later. Don't need Gawn to drop too much, just need to bridge the Witts/Gawn gap by 200k.

SuperCoach 2017: Why sticking with Max Gawn was the right call

THERE was plenty of talk about the ruck department heading into the 2017 SuperCoach season.

Should you stick with Max Gawn or were cheaper options like Aaron Sandilands and Jarrod Witts the way forward?

Well, after one week, the Gawn camp is very happy.

In their fortnightly column, Champion Data lifts the lid on why the rucks are so important and which players you should keep an eye on moving forward.

THE HITOUT

A hitout is recorded when a player knocks the ball out of a ruck contest following a stoppage with clear control, regardless of which side wins the following contest at ground level. Where there is no clear winner in a ruck contest, a hitout isn’t awarded.

In SuperCoach, winning the hitout on its own has no impact on a players score whatsoever, with all hit-outs awarded zero points.

If the hitout reaches an intended target, then the hitout is deemed to be to the advantage of a team mate and these hit-outs are worth five points. If the hitout is sharked and results in an opponent’s possession, then that player is deducted one point.

There was plenty of uncertainty surrounding the ruck duo this season and this lingered right up until the opening bounce of the season. The No. 1 scoring player from 2016, Max Gawn, was less than inspiring during the pre-season, while Todd Goldstein had to contend with Braydon Preuss as he was preferred over Majak Daw. In the end, the cream always rises to the top and both Gawn and Goldstein performed admirably, scoring 128 and 105 points respectively.

In terms of ruck contests attended in Round 1, Stefan Martin attended the most of any player (86), while Shane Mumford and Jarrod Witts ranked equal-second with 80 attendances. Gawn ranked 11th with 64 and Goldstein was 15th with 56.

With the third man up hitout eradicated from the game, tall ruckmen benefited the most, with Gawn (77%) and Aaron Sandilands (71%) recording the highest hit win rates of any player. Surprisingly, Preuss’ win rate of 70% was the third-highest. Gawn and Sandilands led the hit-outs-to-advantage with 21 and 20 in that order, while Matthew Kreuzer and Toby Nankervis blanketed each other on Thursday night with 13 apiece.

Brodie Grundy’s shark rate of 3.4% was clearly the lowest of any ruckman in the opening round, with Patrick Ryder next lowest at 3.6%. Both ruckmen have little competition in the ruck and are viable long term options.

With the Western Bulldogs’ ruck department severely depleted, it has been left to Tom Boyd to carry the load. His hit-outs were sharked by the opposition 25% of the time last week, the highest percentage of the top 20 hitout winners. Jarrod Witts’ shark rate was the next highest (21.6%), while Sandilands’ rate of 20.8% was third-highest overall.

Holz

so Gawn

49 hitouts

8 where to the oposition so -8
21 where HTA so 105.

so thats 97 from hitouts

he scored 128 so thats only 31 points for 13 touches 4 marks and 4 tackles

Goldy

32 Hit outs

3 hit outs sharked (I think) so -3
10 HTA so 50

47 from Hit outs

105 Scored so 58 from 11 touches 3 marks 1 tackle and 3 goals

now im not sure if thats good for goldy that his points scored from hit outs was soo low or it could be bad that he needed 58 points from non ruck work mainly the 3 goals. Again not sure if its good gawn only got 31 points from non ruck out work or bad that he got soo many for him ruck work.

i guess if his HTA is low one game then he could have a stinker.

do people have HTA stats from last year?

Mat0369

HTA are one of the hardest to find. It also hasn't counted the weighting for the HO's, possessions and goals.
