I like this setup, I'm rolling with something similar, 10 premos, 5 discounted midpricers and some expensive rookies

It's funny to think if we presented a team like this in previous year we would have been ridiculed :) "10 premo's! you are kidding mate, gonna need at least 12!"

I remember the year I finished really highly no one liked my team pre-season so you just need to roll with your gut and back yourself in.

My current team is about calculated risks. I've always gone with 10-11 'premiums' with a couple of guys I saw as under priced or discounted due to injuries. This is where Beams, Roughy and Sandi all help. Sandi and Roughy have been low end premiums at the position recently while Beams is a high end guy.

I've also tried to pick guys that I think would be locks to be at the top end of their positions come seasons end. Shaw/Doc down back, Pendles/Danger/Hanners/Selwood/Fyfe in the mids, Goldy in the ruck and then Dahl/Macrae in the forward line. Where guys are using the cash on Nank in the forward line I'd rather just spend the cash on Witts for cover and hope he generates cash at R3. The only real downside to my side is I don't have a guaranteed loophole option.

You should send me a link of your side, I wouldn't mind taking a look

I really don't like the idea of having no loophole option, I'm thinking of picking a M11 who looks like being in the best 25. Loophole early and then hopefully gets a game when injuries hit. Massive risk but its the year for risks!

Could pick Long who should come back round 3.

Long isn't a lock, Petrevski-Seton on the other hand......

Defense is the line that is screwing with me. I dropped O'Meara and Swallow to try and get the cash for a solid D3 but had to start two rookie mids which I hated. Eventually I had to cave and cut Selwood. So I have three options for a starting team now

Doc, Shaw, Adams, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (Otten, EVW)
Danger, Pendles, Hanners, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, O'Meara, SPS (SPP, Barrett, Pickett)
Goldy, Sandi (Cameron)
Dahl, Macrae, Gunston, WHS, Taranto, Turner (Eddy, Houston/Parfitt)

21k available

Doc, Shaw, Simmo, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (Otten, EVW)
Danger, Pendles, Hanners, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, O'Meara, SPS (SPP, Barrett, Pickett)
Goldy, Sandi (Witts)
Dahl, Macrae, Roughy, WHS, Taranto, Turner (Eddy, Houston/Parfitt)

5.7k

Option 3 is blow it up completely and start from scratch.

Looks pretty solid.

Man, i have never seen so many teams look so alike across every forum like this year.

Mat0369

Which of the two do you prefer?

SilverLion

2nd team, will make more money and probably score about the same :)

Gandalf123

I like the second one better, purely for the cover it provides.  I've been thinking of doing something similar in the mids for cash to upgrade to stronger rookies but can't tear myself away from the extra mid premo.

It was so hard to do. In the end I had to cave and it's fixed my D8 issue.

Sweet, thanks. It was basically down to get Gunston as a keeper or bring in the cash generation. I could always bring Adams in for Simmo and pocket the cash as another option.

Mat0369

So I have gone a bit nuts in the last 5 minutes and actually like this team

Doc, Simmo, Shaw, Marchbank, Hampton, Otten (Stewart, Macreadie)
Danger, Pendles, Fyfe, Hanners, Rocky, Beams, SPP, SPS (Parfitt, Barrett, Hibberd)
Gawn, Sandi (Cameron)
Dahl, Macrae, Steele, Hoskin-Elliott, Taranto, Houston (Pickett, Eddy).

1.4k available.

Not bad Matt like it- So had both Doc and Simmo last night well done.

I am assuming Marchbank will be gone by Blues bye.

Mat0369

Marchbank stays until he tops out basically. I ended up going Adams to Simmo which I think could work out in the long run. I might have killed my round 11 bye but I have a few guys I'm looking at as upgrade targets (Selwood and Lynch for example).

I'm leaning towards ditching most of the mid pricers even though I have Steele. I think it's worth taking the risk with the extra rookie on the field and grabbing the extra super premium mid.

I'm thinking Steele could be a potential keeper in the forward line and he is cheaper then Roughy who we were looking at as a stepping stone. The fact that Richardson was raving about him to Robbo prior to the show tells me he will get a decent crack at it.

I also have the option of moving Parfitt forward and bringing back O'Meara. It just comes down to who do I think will score more out of SPP/Steele compared to O'Meara and one of Parfitt/Houston.

Gawn vs Goldy is another debate I'm having inside my head. Goldy has Preuss named with him where as Gawn is on his own and no third man up could result in huge scores.

Mat0369

So here is how round 1 ended for me.

Score: 2192
Rank: 21,319

Team

Shaw, Simmo, Doc, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (Otten, Macreadie)
Pendles, Danger, Fyfe, Rocky, Hanners, Beams, SPS, SPP (Hibberd, Barrett, Parfitt)
Gawn, Sandi (Cameron)
Dahl, Macrae, Steele, WHE, Taranto, Houston (Pickett, Eddy)

1.4k in cash.

Mat0369

Boy oh boy, woweee, did my team crap the bed for the second week running.

2129 and now ranked 31591.

Simmo, Shaw, Hanners and Steele were huge disappointments. Otten on the bench, SPS on the field, Taranto loophole mix up although Eddy did outscore him. I need to start swinging some changes. I ended up bringing in Hannan for Hibberd which was blah so I now have a whopping 8k in the bank.

First trade of the week, Hanners to Marc Murphy. I talked up Murphy all pre-season so it's time to put my money where my mouth is. Hanners has been a huge disappointment but the extra cash could be huge. Trade two I'm still not sold. I have a few options.

Pickett/Parfitt>Butler and play Taranto at M8
Pickett/Parfitt>Witts and play Taranto at M8

Any other ideas?

My team after the Murphy trade will look like this

Doc, Simmo, Shaw, Marchbank, Otten, Hampton (Stewart, Macreadie)
Danger, Pendles, Rocky, Fyfe, Beams, Murphy, SPP, SPS (Barratt, Pickett, Parfitt)
Gawn, Sandi (Cameron)
Dahl, Macrae, Steele, Hoskin-Elliott, Taranto, Houston (Eddy, Hannan)

192k in the bank.
