Here we go again!

Similar to the last few years here, all talk rookies can be had here

Obviously we have our expensive rookies (1st rounders) but who are the cheap rookies at this stage that are likely to line up round 1? The best placeholders for now?

DEF
Keeffe, Scharenberg, Berry and Ryan seem like the obvious 4 for me. Hampton a chance too

MID
Myers, SPP, Barrett, Freeman, Pickett (M/F), Fisher, Graham, Mutch, Scheer

FWD
Black, Eddy, Bolton (M/F), Brown (M/F), Drew (M/F)

I've just thrown together that list of a hunch and avoided anyone 150k+ - who are the best chances?

_wato

All those defenders should play at some stage. Round 1? Keefe and Berry most likely. Shaz still to prove his worth and Ryan dependent on pre season...

Mids - Myers & SPP are absolute locks. Don't think Mutch or Scheer play much early and Freeman needs to get fit, pretty tough Saints 22 to crack. Fisher/Pickett one of will have to play Round 1 surely, address Blues need for speed. Barrett/Graham not sure?

Plenty of forwards to choose from. Eddy/Drew/Bolton certainties nearly. Brown (Callum) won't play Round 1. Black I assume is Aaron?
For a bit extra I'd lock in Turner and Simpkin. Will both play Round 1.

Ringo

Not so confident on Berry playing Rd 1. Remember we have traded in Frost as a tall as well. So imo Andrews and Frost will be the 1 and 2 defenders with 3rd tall coming from McStay, Hipwood, Skinner, Paparone or Berry.

McStay and Paparone will play, and Hipwood forward imo

I know next to nothing about Jake Barret from the Lions, either of you Lions boys tell us how he's tracking?

Nige

Not sure Shai Bolton's a (near) certainty.

Probably has to work harder than Dyril did to get a spot and will have to edge out someone who played last year.

Ringo

He is on Rookie list so will have to be upgraded, Training well and looking forward to grasping opportunity.
Think we still have a vacancy on the Senior List with McGraths retirement but not 100% sure so watch. Will be great downgrade option when elevated during season.

He plays for Richmond remember, so that won't be much of a mountain to climb ;)

I like Tom Stewart as well. Looks very AFL-ready at 23 years old, and averaged 17 disposals, 6.4 marks, 2 tackles, 2 i50s, 3 r50s and 74.44 DT in the VFL for 2016 so certainly has some SC-scoring potential. Watch out for him in the pre-season.

2nd highest averaging possession defender in the VFL too. Averaged 81SC

That's very decent for a KPD, if he can have an injury-free and solid pre-season and break into the round 1 team (which looks pretty likely, given the mediocrity of the Geelong backline and his maturity) he'd have to be close to a lock at D7/8

I know I love the bloke in keepers but keep an eye on Jordan Foote to make Tom Mitchell's spot & be at a very attractive price (can't remember off the top of my head). Flying under the radar at the moment. Superb 2016 & loves a tackle & a contested possession.

Way ahead of you - already been well and truly on my mind. I don't like paying much for rookies, but 182k doesn't rule him out

Expecting Jordan Foote to get a crack in the midfield next year, avg. 31 disposals, 5 clearances and 7 tackles in his last 5 NEAFL games.

Dyl Clarke ready made contested ball winner and can take a grab above his head... Kicking only concern.
Gallucci much the same, will be able to fill J.Lyons spot and adds a bit more class.
Marshall for port could see early games given their lack forwards.
McClarty strong in the contest and moves well for a big man, if he's fit (injury clouds) could see early games as a 3rd tall at pies. Great contested mark.
Mitch Hannan i reckon will also be set for early games, Gun one out... flies high would sit wel alongside hogan and weideman. Really good on the ground as well.

Good NDT boy too ;)
