To quote one Jerry Seinfeld.

Hello Newman!
Goodbye Mcgrath

Lets hope he gets a look in, Sydney seem to always bring in a few good newbies each year.

sammy123

Hmmm even if he gets named rd1 I'm not sure if I want to play that much for someone who could only play a few games at a time

I was also concerned about the suggestion that he wouldn't play much midfield.  So even when he does play, his output isn't going to be high.  He's already gone from my team.  Plenty of players cheaper that can produce similar output with potentially better JS.  But this is all based on the unknown of who will line up R1
Keep him in as a placeholder and to keep the % selected high. High % means he gets talked up more and selected by more. Then we all take him out. Lol.
Not really concerned - Basically my strategy each year is to select high price rookies in original team so as to have wriggle room to manouvre when we know which are playing round 1. So having a 220k McRath in allows me to downgrade to a 110k playing rook.  A lot easier to downgrade than find cash when low priced rookies do not play.

That's actually a great strategy, I should use that to avoid being messed up come R1 - 11 of my 13 rooks/cheaps are the bare minimum price :P I'm asking for trouble

BomberSam

So who do we have so far as 'likely' round 1 rookies? I have a 50/50 section too, although some may be closer to 70/30.

DEF: Keeffe, Ryan
50/50: Scharenberg, Stewart, Long

MID: Powell-Pepper, Myers
50/50: Pickett, Freeman

RUC: -
50/50: Strnadica

FWD: McCarthy, Eddy
50/50: Stewart, Black, Pickett, Long, Strnadica

Feel free to add/remove.

GoLions

Bowes and Ainsworth up forward. Maybe Clugg.

Possibly SPS in mids.

Logue a decent chance down back imo, Rico would know more than me about that though .

Jukes

My man Ryan Garthwaite can probably join that 50/50 group of backs - quite a few on BF's Richmond board reckon he'll slot straight in even, many at CHB! But as usual rookies (let alone those drafted at pick 72) are never that certain, so a round 1 debut is probably a bit optimistic

RaisyDaisy

These are the guys I currently have as a chance.

DEF: Keeffe, Ryan
50/50: Scharenberg, McGrath, Stewart, Newman, Hibberd (DEF/MID)

MID: Powell-Pepper, Myers
50/50: Pickett, Freeman, Graham, Galluci (MID/FWD), Fisher, Foote, McCluggage (MID/FWD)

RUC: -
50/50: Cameron

FWD: Bowes (FWD/MID), Ainsworth (FWD/MID), Eddy
50/50: Black, Drew (FWD/MID), Bolton (FWD/MID), Rioli, Parfitt (FWD/MID), Stewart

Some of the 50/50's are probably more 40/60, but this pool of players is who I am selecting my current place holders from

BomberSam

I'll add Kayne Turner and Ben McKay. Both were prominent in a hit-out against a VFL team (can't remember which) a couple of days ago.

The more I think about it, the less I think Fisher gets a gig early. I think he might be a good target later in the year, but round 1 he would have to have an exceptional pre-season to get a start. Looking at our 22, I see something like this

Plowman, Rowe, Doc
Simmo, Weits, Byrne*
Kerridge, Cripps, Curnow
Lamb, Levi, Wright
Sumner, Curnow, Silvagni
Kreuz, Murphy, Gibbs
Daisy, Boekhorst, Phillips*, Marchbank

Phillips and Byrne both won't play early due to injuries which opens up two spots. Unfortunately he isn't a ruck or a half back flank. Cuningham should be on the fringe 22 and pushing Boekhorst for a spot on the wing. Other guys I haven't named in that 22 include Petrevsk-Seton, Buckley, Graham, Pickett, White, Gorringe, Smedts, McKay, Sheehan, Armfield and Palmer. They will all go through there at some point as well. Most of the other guys on the list are in a development year or dead weight (Liam Jones anyone?)

Ideally I would rather see certain guys not in the 22 since they aren't in our long term plans, however I think with the lack of depth at certain positions they will continue to play. If they are playing well you do have to reward them, unfortunately some of them aren't up to scratch at the top level and will be gone at the end of the year anyway.

I really see Carlton WANTING to play SPS and Pickett first game to see how they go. Then they either continue to play until they drop off. Fisher is only an outside chance but they may spring a surprise and reward him based on what we're hearing from training so far. Guys to go would be Lamb and Boekhorst and if Fisher plays, Marchbank would go to defence and Rowe would be out.

Mat0369

I think Gorringe only comes in if Kreuz gets injured. We will go with Levi and Rowe as the second ruck. SPS should come in if that's the case. I think one of Buckley, White or Sheehan come in to fill the hole in the back 6.

Boekhorst will play, he was actually ok early last season before he got injured and he provides pace/run and carry off the wing. I think Cuningham is competing for a spot with him. Lamb/Sumner/Pickett will compete for 2 spots as the pressure forwards.

I really want to see some pre-season action to get a better feel for it.

Has there been any new info on Nathan Freeman?

I've noticed he is selected in 29.5% if teams, which is the 6th highest for rookies.

Seems a bit much for someone with his history

Yeah I dunno, won't be picking him myself unless he lights it up in the pre-season matches and lines up round 1, and there are no other options at his price :P

he's actually having a good preseason, sounds like he's fit but I still think we'll take it slow with him. I could be wrong but I don't see him playing early
