Ben Brown has had an injury interrupted pre-season recovering from knee surgery. North are hopeful he will be right for JLT 3 but may not be ready for round 1.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/north-melbourne-kangaroos-ben-brown-in-afl-preseason-mix-20170222-guiozf.html

If the battle for round 1 is between Daw and Preuss for the 2nd tall spot than clearly Preuss on the 2 pre-season matches has played better.

It will be interesting to see if Brown isn't ready for round 1 if he has to go through the VFL to come back into the side. I heard them mention at the end of the coverage that because he hasn't had a pre-season they might not get him to do any ruck work at all. That means one of Preuss or Daw will have to play and the more likely of those two is Preuss based on form.

I still think you don't want to go super tall, teams will carve you up on the counter attack with quick ball movement. We went really tall down back yesterday and it just busted open the zone in a number of different ways. They didn't have the speed to get back in defense and then if it came to ground they were screwed. I'm expecting to see a number of teams play smaller lineups this year.

Pickett is in the should category, 2 goals in half a match and not much else in the cupboard for the Blues. Eddy is another who I expect to play.

Jukes

Josh Begley trying to play his way into our teams so far with 2 early goals :P

Okay, ill change that now.

Didn't actually watch the game and looked at Picketts stats and wasn't too impressed but if it was in a half its pretty solid. He wont be a good supercoach scorer but he will be a good player for Carlton if he can kick 2-3 goals a game.

A ripping tackle and a goal assist of a goal from James Stewart. Have a look at the replay of the goal from Stewart too. Will not see many better in 2017

I reckon Mitch Hibberd & Ed VW will be right in contention.

I'll be shocked if EVW Is not in for round 1.

Furthermore and I drew attention to this last week. Surely Eade needs to reevaluate his mid season introduction of this Brodie he is a gun rookie.

From what I saw of NM today both Hibberd and EVW will play.

Brodie was the most impressive of the Suns rookies last week and has started really well today with 2 1st term goals.

He is only 50/50. The face LeBois started over him is something to factor in as well and he was super impressive in the first half.

One of those two goals Pickett kicked was off a good crumbing effort, the other was from a 50m penalty where someone entered the protected zone which is more luck. There will be a lot of competition for those half forward spots, he will have to stand out over the next 2 games to be good to go round 1.

The following guys are looking to earn a spot and rotate through the small forward positions available.

Wright, Lamb, Sumner, Armfield, Daisy, Palmer, Petrevski-Seton (when fit) and Lebois. You will also have Graham, Boekhorst and Cuningham who are looking to cement midfield spots but will also be asked to rotate through the half forward flanks.

The worry for Hibberd has to be Wright/Mullett if they are fit to go round 1. The third pre-season game is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

RaisyDaisy

Hibberd's SC scoring is a little worrying, but I'll obviously pick him if he starts round 1

25 touches for only 65 SC, and only 31SC in first JLT

80% DE not bad today, but 2FA and 6 Clangers is ugly

78SC for EVW
