The pointof the bye was to stop teams tanking the final round  (freo, north). A bye before the gf wouldn't fix that.
The easiest fix to all of them is to allow teams to name whichever 22 players they want on any given week. If a team wants to rest 11 players the week before finals, let them. They are acting in the best interests of the football club! And if it backfires the supporter base gets angry at them and they lose out.

If we keep a pre-finals bye then Brownlow night needs to be moved to a time within those two weeks so that all 18 clubs can attend.

I'm against tanking. You saying teams should deliberately able to lose? Manipulate the results of the game? May as well let them forfeit whenever they want.

teams should be allowed to choose who they want to play each game. Everyone chosen to play should be playing at the best of their ability (not deliberately playing shower)

If teams want to not play their best players well they'll cop huge backlash from doing so, it'll only hurt their club.

Couldn't think of anything worse than having a week off between prelims and GF

Everything you said that could be done, should be done in the week off after RD23

Breaking up the AFL season and finals with a bye was shower enough, lets not flower with the Grand Final broken away from the rest of the finals too please.

Tanking is flowered thats why something needs to be changed with the draft system, however I have no problem with a team who's final position is set resting players to get ready for the finals...essentially its a bye  anyway.  This year was a bit different than usual as the top 8 was so close that everyone was fighting for position.  If next year there are teams who have their finals set I don't see why a club would rest their players in round 23 anyway to take advantage of giving their players 2 weeks off along with the bye.  Bye needs to go bye bye, because I don't think it will stop the top teams from resting players, and I'm not sure how it would stop teams from tanking anyway...

North Melbourne would have totally rested half their team this year if they could have gotten away with it this year, just like they did last year.

Just about every win impacts the draft order.

I.e. say in a situation where a team is guaranteed to finish 1st and plays against a team that, if they win, lose the #1 draft pick. Is it fair that the top team can rest half the team, while the bottom team can't because its tanking? Or would it better if they both just played half teams and it turns into a fiasco? Can't see how that doesn't impact the integrity of the game. Not to mention some players (or all?) get paid a match fee also, so you're essentially ripping some players off. Media ratings, the Brownlow medal and other awards, betting agencies ALL impacted negatively.

I think the bye before the finals worked. Just move the Brownlow closer

What's the biggest achievement by the dogs this century - winning the premiership this year or being the only team to beat the greatest team of all time, the 2000 dons? Probably the latter tbh.

Legitimately Debatable Topic.

QuoteInjured skipper Bob Murphy has returned the premiership medal handed to him by coach Luke Beveridge during his post-match speech at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Beveridge revealed at the Charles Sutton Medal presentation night on Wednesday that Murphy had thanked his coach for the gesture but said “he couldn’t keep it”.

Beveridge then announced that rather than keep the medal, which Murphy handed back to him on Sunday morning, he would instead give it to the club’s museum.
