I thought Boyd was pretty clearly best on. JJ butchered it all game!
+1

He really came of age

JPK clearly the best and Boyd the best for the Dogs (Bont. & Macrae made up the contested-classy combination they always do).

I think JJ won because he broke the game open late in the 3rd and early in the 4th with his run from the back line - similar to last Grand Final when Rioli won even though Isaac Smith was clearly the BOG.

I hope Hannes didn't suffer anything serious, it was brave of him to come back on :-\

Rampe is really shaping up as the comps' most effective defender (I would say he's on par with Rance - still doesn't have Rance's track record though)

not gonna lie I feel a bit flat atm

I'm stoked for mum's side of the family. my auntie was so incredibly nervous. we went out for lunch during the week and she was nearly in tears. I couldn't be happier to know they have experienced footy bliss, as a supporter anyway

but as happy as I am for them, I can't help but feel flat. I've seen us lose 3 grand finals and one draw. the thing that kills me is we were the better team in 2009. I just want that feeling. just once

enjoy Dogs fans. there is still a lot more this team can do. I hope somewhere in the future we see a Dogs v Saints grand final

and Tom Boyd should've been the Normie. no doubt about it

Summing up the Grand Final in three words

Free
Kick
Bulldogs
Not saying the umpires influenced the game at all but a 20 - 8 free kick count may say something about momentum.  Dogs did appear to get the benefit of a couple of 50/50 decisions but really no influence as Swannies were spent in 4th quarter.

Grazz Hanners a media ligament damage to left knee so will be out for a while.

With all due respect Ringo. If you or anyone else think the umpires had no influence on the result you're either blinded by emotion or your head is willfully in the sand

Yeah Sydney got screwed all game. What happened to the 'sliding in' rule?

PowerBug

They're all talking about the Hannerbery decision in the 4th, but what about the one late in the 2nd when Jack went for the ball, Dogs player slid in and collected Jack low, and JACK got done for kicking in danger! And then Papley kicked the ball away so 50m was given, and the Dogs scored right on half time...

As a neutral (though was supporting the Doggos), the Swans definitely got shafted a fair few times. There were a couple of howlers the Dogs way too, but there were certainly some odd calls that went against Sydney.

I think the Dogs ended up with like 4 50m penalties and two, if not three, were pretty soft.

And yeah, some of the rules were stupidly inconsistent. The Hannebery incident was exactly why the rule was brought in and yet that wasn't paid.

There was also another free (or it might have even been a 50) that went the Dogs way that was hardly paid all season (can't remember the exact incident though).

Taking nothing away from the Dogs though, they played well, but certainly got their fair share of luck with a number of dubious umpiring calls.

Every single matchday thread there's people sooking about the umpires. There will never be a perfectly umpired match of football and if you can't deal with that then don't watch it.

Commiserations to the Swans supporters.

flower all the Tom Boyd haters.

Go dogs!

No one is asking for a perfectly umpired match, we are asking for consistency, and with 3 professional and well paid people on the field it should be easy to attain but it isn't. Mistakes happen and 50/50 calls going one way or another shouldn't be problems. But if the 3 best umpires are getting simple sliding decisions wrong then something isn't right.

But your last points are all that matters now, enjoy the premiership win :) Onto 2017 for the rest of us

First off, well done Dogs, I didn't think you could do it, but you proved me wrong.

Umpiring?  It was bad. In 1 2 minute stretch Lachie Hunter "incorrectly dispoased"/threw the ball that led to 2 consecutive Dogs goals.

Dogs vs Swans free kick count 20-8
Dogs vs GWS free kick count 22-11

Dogs vs everyone they played over the whole finals series 79-48

Rest my case.  AFL continues to be the most biased and unfair competition in the world.  This game felt like a VFL game and for someone who has no allegiance to either team, felt robbed because this should've been a much closer contest.  But thats the AFL so what can you do...
