Whether he is better than Hill/Cripps aside..

I'd take Ballantyne for nothing (which in reality is all we should have to pay when you consider the lack of demand for Ballas and the fact that Freo wont keep an unhappy player) but I cant a the club being foolish enough to give up anything substantial for him.

He has had offers from Melbourne based clubs, but would prefer to remain in WA.SO the only option is the Eagles.
To say no one else is interested is just not speaking the truth.

Link? I've heard he has interrst from Essendon but haven't seen anything firm.

The fact he wants to stay in WA means Freo *should* be doing everything possible to make that happen.

Take our 6th rounder and pipe down.

Balla's goal kicking has been down the last 2 season - I wont argue there... but his pressure in the forward line is far superior to Hill/LeCras/Cripps (bit unfair as Cripps plays more midfield)

Balla's is the only one I can remember to smother a kick in

Yeah the pressure is the only thing Ballas could add to us imo, will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

If nothing else, consistent pressure on Hill and Cripps will do them good.

The goal kicking from Hill/Cripps would be similar as well - all average about a goal a game.

Doesn't have to be a link. You make an unsubstantiated claim about nobody wanting him.
And how do you know that Fremantle aren't doing everything in their power to get him to the Eagles!!!!

End of the day, I'll take Ballas. But dont be surprised if you're getting a lot less than you expect for him.

I guess we will have to see what eventuates. But I don't think there is one player who has wanted out of Fremantle, that Fremantle haven't bent over backwards to find the position the player wants.
Other than McKenzie, there is nothing at the Eagles that I would consider a good swap.

And I'm certain the Eagles value Mackenzie much higher than wantaway Ballantyne.

Ballas played all season,McKenzie didn't.
But we will see.I am sure if the deal was offered and both were prepared to go then the deal would be done.
There is no guarantee that McKenzie will get games at the Eagles in the coming year if Barrass and McGovern stand up.

Seriously..... How can you justify that?

Balla's actually played a full season (20 games - only missed through injury) and no-one has taken his spot in the team.  McKenzie was overtaken by Barras in the team and only managed 13 games.

McKenzie is only 1 year younger than Balla's, so that's a non issue

Use ya head mate... Mackenzie is in his first season back from an ACL, in which he missed that real 'transition year' under Adam Simpson. Before going down he was elected captain, 2014 best and fairest - IN THE SAME YEAR that Matt Priddis went on to win the brownlow.

If that doesn't tell you how highly we regard him I don't know what will.

Simmo has come out a number of times and said E-Mack is a required player... Compare this to Ballas who has said he wants to join the Eagles. Its simply not happening, you're dreaming if you think Fremantle have that much leverage.

This whole discussion is non-sensical though, you're not going to understand how little power you have when it comes to trading Ballantyne and I'm not seeing that Mackenzie will be involved in a deal.

Besides, you're definitely not having him until you learn to spell his name right.

valkorum

If he is that highly rated then why isn't he playing over Barras?

We do value Balla's, he isn't being de-listed and we haven't put him up for trade - he has requested it (well... Colin Young has).  If nothing eventuates then he will play next year and be part of the best 22.

elephants

Because he's spent 12 months rehabilitating his knee and another 12 months getting back into AFL footy. He clearly isn't fitting with Simmo's gameplan so the off-season will be spent trying to do that.

Not sure if you understand, but its important for teams to have walk-up depth. McGovern is very niggle/injury-prone and Barrass has played 10 games of footy and is only 20. Its ridiculous to think he can automatically hold down the fort and regardless he needs constant competition to keep his game on point.

Interesting, I admire your optimism in being able to keep a player who has numerously stated his strong desire to leave.
