do you think we were aware of this or that it was coming? knowing people who suffer from this im well aware it rarely just appears...

I think these paragraphs are probably the most telling. It probably was always an underlying issue but he had Eddie, Robbo and Jeffy for support early in his career.

Quote“His best time was when he was with Michelle Trewartha (who worked in the club’s media department). She was a part of his life as much as anyone had been in the past at Carlton.”

Around the time of their breakup stories started to emerge of regular Casino sightings of Yarran as his life started to spiral. But he never became what is known in the AFL industry as a “bad person”, Yarran hurting himself more than others.

Even today there is a view held by some that Yarran, while he is aware of his rare talents, doesn’t believe he deserves to be playing AFL football, and throughout his eight years in the system he has constantly worried about stories being written of his father’s incarceration.

He knows he can make a football talk and run rings around your average AFL player but it’s the expectation that goes with it he can’t handle. In 2007 Gary Ablettt snr admitted to regularly breaking down under the weight of public hope during his halcyon days with the Cats.

“The structure of a football club would be beneficial for Chris. Could he play in the AFL again? Yes, but he needs to play in 2017 with Swan Districts. He was very lonely in Melbourne because he had lost a lot of his Carlton network and he didn’t feel that he had been able to form those bonds at Richmond, something that would have been easier had he played.”

Break up, low self confidence and no support network would have pushed him over the edge. He thought a change in scenery might help but he just ended up in a place where he was struggling and alone. That's pretty heartbreaking to read, I really feel for Yaz. So I don't think it appeared overnight, but like I wrote in the Tigers thread that it was just a series of events that toppled it all. We had a really strong support network at Carlton for him lead by Eddie. That all turned to crap and all his close mates were gone pretty quickly. It probably became a very toxic environment in the last 12 months of the Malthouse regime.

Yep you're right, it was coming and his last hope was a new club might rekindle a healthy Yaz

Macreadie is one I'm pretty pumped about looking at his highlights. He is another key defender but he has a really nice kicking action and seems to hit targets. With forwards getting taller we might be able to turn him and Plowman into those combo guys that can play tall and small. He seems to have decent agility so he could probably play that role.

That's against a VFL team so the level of competition is a step up from under 18's. If you click on their player profile on the AFL draft hub it brings up a video, there are highlights for both Fisher and Macreadie and they look real good.

Watch out for Polson; very quick and extremely good user with both feet. He is a little short but a fierce tackler too.

SOS comes to watch a lot of APS games cause SOSOS was captain of Xavier; Polson was captain of Haileybury.

I think Polson was the one that had no info on the AFL draft hub. He apparently missed most of the year with a shoulder right? He might be a nice slider that dropped to us because of injury and lack of eyes from recruiters.

Yeah dislocated shoulder in the opening few rounds. Was in the best in 2/3 TAC games before he went down too.

SOS would have seen him tear apart Xavier in a quarter kicking 4 I think but can't remember exactly.

We have new player in number 1 at the Blues. Here's a hint, it's the little guy out the front.

So when Ben and Tom get picked by Carlton do we give them 2 and 3 or go with 11 and 111?

Andrew Phillips has stress fractures in his foot which is no good.

QuoteCARLTON ruckman Andrew Phillips faces a major interruption to his pre-season after suffering a stress reaction in his left foot.

Phillips will not have surgery but his time on the sidelines will be determined after he consults with a specialist.

"While it's disappointing Andrew has sustained this injury, he'll be determined to get back out on the park as soon as possible," Carlton football manager Andrew McKay told carltonfc.com.au.

"He is extremely professional in his approach to football, and we know he will work as hard as he can to recover in readiness for the 2017 season."

Phillips, 25, played 14 games over four seasons for Greater Western Sydney before being traded to the Blues at the end of 2015.

He played 16 matches in his first season at Carlton. A hamstring strain suffered in May interrupted his campaign but he returned to play the last 10 games of 2016.

So that gives us two rucks with dodgy feet.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-01-21/blues-put-injured-ruck-andrew-phillips-on-longterm-injury-list

QuoteCARLTON has placed ruckman Andrew Phillips, who has succumbed to a stress reaction in his left foot, on the long-term injury list.

The big man has avoided surgery on his troublesome foot but will still be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

Phillips saw a specialist during the week, with rest rather than surgery recommended as the appropriate course of action.

The Blues are yet to name a replacement for the 202cm big man but Phillips looks in extreme doubt for round one. His move to the long-term injury list paves the way for Carlton to elevate a rookie in his place.

Former Fremantle defender Alex Silvagni, selected with pick No.23 in the Rookie Draft, may come into contention as another tall option as the Blues look to add experience to a youthful back six.
