Should Essendon be eligible for No 1 Draft Pick.

Late to the thread...

And I think Essendon's conduct over this whole thing has been terrible.

But they've been punished enough. The #1 pick won't nearly offset the loss of reputation, players, being kicked out of the finals, draft picks and cash they've lost.

They don't 'deserve' it, but they are eligible. No issue from me.

Summed it up well. Exactly how I feel.

I don't use the punishment thing, they were kinda in control of. Could have done what the Sharks did. I think they should get draft picks this year but they should get the pick of where they finished on the ladder in 2015 and not pick 1. Pick 1 is a given most years that the player won't flop. So a team that have done the wrong thing gets rewarded with the best player in the country

Only how I see it, won't be a popular decision but just an opinion

Know I started the post and agree a bit with RG here, If all Essendon players were available this year they would not have finished last. And personally I see this as a reward by the AFL take your punishment and we will give you the appropriate pick knowing full well it may be pick 1.

It is not my case of wanting Brisbane to get pick 1 as I would feel the same if it was Brisbane rather than Essendon as I still feel it is a reward for accepting punishment.

I see where you are coming from Ringo, but the current draft system already rewards teams making bad decisions (I think it is the right system btw), and therefore punishes team for making good teams. Same with salary caps (which I already agree with).

All teams that finish last are at least partially at fault for finishing last. Carlton, Melbourne, Brisbane, St. Kilda... all have finished last or close to last because of bad football decisions.

Fremantle, if they had a full strength side, likely wouldn't finish as low either. I wouldn't think it would be reasonable to say they should take away pick 3 from them.

Yeah but they got alot of punishment as stated above, and they were going to finish bottom 4 anyway imo, and tbh, other than the hype is there much different between 1-4? Especially since they are most likely taking a midfielder in the draft anyway :/

Picks don't count nearly as much as the system players are in, I agree.

If we looked at the top 10 picks from each year, I think in hindsight they'd be in a dramatically different order.

haha i actually hope the bombers trade pick 1, think people value it WAY to much, get a gun and another first rounder and have a similar chance to pick up a gun :P A trade with GWS would be the dream :O

You are right izander - In very few years is there real standout for the No 1 pick.  There is no real standout this year for No1 unlike last year when Weitering and Schache were always going to go 1 & 2 as an example.

If we take JOM for pick one ill start barracking for GWS :P Hes a gun but sadly i dont believe we will ever see him reach is potential :P

Torpedo10

If we traded 1 and our 2nd next year for JOM and their 1st this year I'd be pretty satisfied.

JOM needs a Melbourne club, that will bring the best out in him.

elephants

If Essendon get JOM via the draft plus pick 1 this supplements saga is nearly worth it :P
