Good point.

I'll get on that tomorrow afternoon once I get back to my spreadsheets

So to clarify I was looking at a trade that took me 100k under the cap so that is not allowed.

However if I delist 5 players to enable me to get picks and it takes me 400k below cap that is permitted,

So in summary can not trade below cap but can delist below cap.  Does not seem fair think it should be you must be above minimum cap at conclusion of 2nd trade period.

Yeah, but if you were allowed to trade below the cap, delistings would just take you further down. This way, it'll get teams on a level playing field before they go ahead and delist.

My advice is to just wait until another natural trade gives you a few more $, then do that trade.
I'm still a little bit confused. So if I'm 350k over the minimum cap (as an example), and I have say, 6 NAT picks I want to use. Can I delist 6 players, go maybe 400k below the minimum cap, but then obviously be 200k above after drafting? I think what you said in this post means what I'm suggesting is ok? Just want to be 100% sure though :)

Yup!

So yeah, after your delistments, you can be below the minimum cap, because your draft picks will probably bring you back over it (doesn't matter if they don't). Just don't trade under it.

Okay so how many players will we have on the senior and rookie lists so I can manage my cap to the correct amount?

40 seniors and 5 rookies.

If there are any left over rookies... they might just go to whomever has the cap space.

Ugh, I'm a filthy liar.

40 & 4 actually! So plan for that. However, don't be surprised if you end up with 5 rookies, because yes, I will be enforcing that we draft every AFL player, it's just we can't know for sure that there will be enough for 40 & 5 (or even 40 & 6) before AFL list lodgements, so 40 & 4 it is.

If you can't take a 45th player due to cap... well, shower. But let's hope that doesn't happen.

Dammit Purps :P

So hypothetically, let's say I have 3 rookies on my list, with R6 and R14. Use R6, which takes me to the required 4 rookies. But, wouldn't you know it, there's at least enough rookies in the pool for everyone to take a 5th. Would I get to use R14, or would I have to wait until everyone has reached the required 4 rookies before taking a 5th?

We also traded R14 for two later picks cause we were told to have 5 rookies. I demand compo.

I literally was thinking about this before I read this :P

Hopefully I should know what the list sizes will be before the rookie draft, meaning I'll make sure you can take you higher picks (so R6 & R14 in this example) to the draft.

Didn't do this last year which meant people had to give up picks in the first 4 rounds (sorry guys, especially meow who had higher picks IIRC), but I'm acknowledging that was a mistake that I'm fixing this time around.

RaisyDaisy

@GL - surely every team gets to use their picks first, as priority, and then the leftover players or teams who don't have picks but are given ones to fill the list would go last

Thoughts on the trade period that has just passed us by?

I won't send out proposed rule changes for the trade period yet, that'll be a while away, but discussion of it is good whilst its fresh in our minds.

Do you like the decision levels of 0-3. 4-5, 6-7 and 8+?

Was I too lenient, just right or too strict in ruling trades?

How was the speed in processing trades?

Should we revisit the trade committee idea? Is asking for consensus effective?

Also, I totally forgot to talk about Leadership Groups last time. Do we:

Keep them? If so, at 5? 6? 4?

Do we keep the mid-season change of leadership groups?

Discuss...

Levi434

Leadership Group stays at 5 and the same for the year barring injury.
