Haha I give up.

here is the answer why trading for the future is bad. You spend your time at the bottom like Dublin did in 2012 and 2013 and then when you build your way up after 2 years of struggling you get constant hate for being a super team with a strong list.

just sit at the top like Mexico every year and nothing negative comes your way.

If trades are to be dealt on the merits of players involved how is 12 100 average seasons not equal to 12 100 average seasons? Why is there a premium/discount factor?

Because that scenario is 1200 points for one year vs 120 points per year over 10 years

How is that equal and fair? The team who takes the 12 gets 1 good year, and when they lose the 12 the following year they're flowered

But it's their choice to go one way or the other. Who gets the better deal in your opinion?

Yes it's their choice, and it's my choice to neg it :P

Who wins though?

if your assuming bont is a 115 average.

then the player getting 12 guys who average 115 if mids. 100 if fwds, 95 if defender and 100 if ruck is by a mile if they are all old.

Who wins though?

Depends

If my intention is to play WXV for one more year than resign, I'll take the 12 and win the comp and go out the champ

If not, then the guy getting the 12 clearly loses. And don't ask me why, because you know why :P

so they get 12 guys to fill a whole team and they play for 1-3 years. Or you take a punt on 1 guy who could easily go down with injury or miss in a final or whatever.

Im surprised you say this as it kinda goes against the whole Treloar for JJK Duffield trade.

My answer is because I took it that the scenario was that the 12 all retire after one year

that scenario can never occur. Unless every single player comes out and signs they will retire before the year ends.

even then. I rate treloar as a minimum 110 player. If bont has 12 years then he has 10.

If you offered me this

90 90 90
110 110 110
100
95 95 95

what are the chances i turn that down if i could lock in those numbers for 1 year.

nobody in the comp should do that your giving away a insta flag.

So back to my original question, how much extra is the immediate benefit worth? Is 2×100 worth 100, 100, 100? Is 3×100 worth 100 ,100, 100, 100? More?

i dont think you can quantify it.

as much as we like numbers. your missing way too many variables.

are they injury prone, is the prediction of 1 year correct, what positions are these players, let alone trying to project 12 years in the future.

GoLions

I think that value is in the eye of the beholder

How about we put some names in?

Team 1:
D: x, x, x, x
M: M. Bontempelli, x, x, x
R: x
F: x, x, x, x
I: x, x

Team 2:
D: M. Boyd, J. Kelly, C. Enright, J. Gibson
M: D. Swan, S. Mitchell, B. Goddard, D. Mundy
R: A. Sandilands
F: N. Riewoldt, S. Johnson, J. Waite, x
I: x, x

Which team would you prefer?

RaisyDaisy

This discussion is pointless anyway as it will never happen

And I don't agree with how meow values players using that model either

Can't just say years by average and whoever has more wins. Like Holz said there's so much more to it, but I know meow likes his way, I just don't agree with it
