well kinda you would have been able to buy McVeigh for 50 not 32.

Seeing as only the top two scorers get the first option, do we pick up the player from Pos 2 and then begin to deduct $$$, or still follow the rule that's given?

Firstly Mcveigh is a Plat, hence why he'd sell for 50G.

The first option for you is correct there.
