State league affiliate: Adelaide (SANFL)
This weekend: Sturt v Adelaide - Saturday June 4, 2.10pm, Peter Motley Oval

Brad Crouch was everywhere in Adelaide’s 10-point loss to Sturt; amassing 29 disposals, seven tackles and eight clearances as he tries to break back into the senior team.

Troy Menzel kicked three goals and finished with 13 disposals.

The Crows had a couple of players returning from injury â€" David Mackay (hamstring) had 25 disposals and kicked a goal, and rookie Alex Keath (knee) finished with 20 disposals.

Small defender Harrison Wigg had 27 touches, with Cam Ellis-Yolmen (27) and dropped former skipper Nathan van Berlo (25) also in the best.

Defender Andy Otten was also strong, with six rebound-50s in his 20 disposals.

This weekend: Canberra Demons v Brisbane Lions - Saturday June 4, 12pm, Manuka Oval

Axed midfielder Rhys Mathieson responded well to his demotion, accumulating a team-high 29 touches, eight tackles and three marks in the 43-point loss.

Ball-winner Claye Beams was the next best with 21 disposals and four tackles, while rookie ruckman Archie Smith was involved in a heavy knock and taken off the ground on a stretcher.

The Lions kicked just two goals for the match, with midfielder Billy Evans registering one major from his 15 possessions and nine tackles.

This weekend: Northern Blues v Frankston - Sunday June 5, 2pm, IKON Park

Father-son draftee Jack Silvagni impressed with his four goals to go with his 21 disposals, seven marks and seven inside 50s in the Blues' 40-point win.

Ruckman Andrew Phillips got through unscathed in his return from a hamstring injury, accumulating 25 hit-outs and eight touches in the wet conditions.

Former Giant Mark Whiley collected a team-high 31 touches and kicked a goal, while speedster Jason Tutt also found plenty of the ball with 26 possessions and one goal.

State league affiliate: Peel Thunder (WAFL)
This weekend: Subiaco v Peel Thunder  - Sunday June 5, 2.20pm, Domain Stadium

Omitted midfielder Matt de Boer boosted his chances of earning a quick recall, amassing a game-high 36 touches and eight tackles in Peel's four-point win.

The 26-year-old finished 14 possessions ahead of the next Docker, youngster Brady Grey, who had 22 disposals and laid an equal match-high 11 tackles.

Former regular Tendai Mzungu (21 touches), axed midfielder Ed Langdon (19 touches, one goal) and ruckman Zac Clarke (37 hit-outs, 17 touches, one goal) also created opportunities in the win.

The clash was rescheduled and moved to Domain Stadium on Sunday after the playing surface at Medibank Stadium was deemed unsatisfactory.



State league affiliate: Geelong (VFL)
This weekend: Geelong v Sandringham - Sunday June 5, 1pm, Simonds Stadium

Forward Mitch Clark made an encouraging return to football in carefully managed game time, kicking three goals in the Cats' agonising two-point loss.

Despite Clark's return, the Cats will be sweating on the fitness of midfielders Josh Cowan and Billie Smedts after the pair went down with injury.

Cowan hobbled into the rooms and emerged wearing a tracksuit, while Smedts was assisted off the ground in the hands of trainers with an apparent lower leg injury.

Sam Menegola was another Cat to impress in his first game of the season, gathering 21 possessions to be among the best.



State league affiliate: Gold Coast (NEAFL)
This weekend: Gold Coast v Sydney Swans - Saturday June 4, 12pm, Metricon Stadium

Defender Trent McKenzie made a promising comeback from an ankle injury that has sidelined him for the past month, gathering a team-high 24 disposals in the heavy 86-point loss.

McKenzie had not played since rolling his left ankle early in the second quarter against Geelong in round six.

Midfielder Mitch Hallahan had 19 touches and kicked a goal in his comeback from a broken foot, while backman Rory Thompson was kept to eight disposals in his return from an ankle injury.

Omitted Sun Luke Russell responded with 18 touches and eight tackles in a match that was played in torrential rain, particularly in the second term.



State league affiliate: Giants (NEAFL)
This weekend: NT Thunder v Giants - Saturday June 4, 6.30pm, TIO Stadium

Forward Sam Reid was the focal point in attacking 50 for the Giants, bagging four goals in the 12-point loss.

Reid was well complemented by 201cm ruckman Tom Downie (one goal), yet-to-debut defender Jeremy Finlayson and forward Will Hoskin-Elliott as the team's better-performed players.



State league affiliate: Box Hill (VFL)
This weekend: Box Hill v North Ballarat - Sunday June 5, 2pm, Box Hill City Oval

Draftee Kieran Lovell, the No.22 selection in last year's NAB AFL Draft, relished the wet conditions with 31 disposals and six clearances.

Hawks coach Marco Bello told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Lovell was "instrumental" in the 27-point win.

"(He's) a hard, contested player that put his nose down on the ground, and he fought really hard and impacted with clearances," Bello said.

Experienced campaigner Brendan Whitecross also stood out with his 24 possessions and five clearances.

"He was used across all three lines at different periods of the game so with his experience, he was important for us," Bello said.

Axed midfielder Ben Kennedy pressed his claims for an immediate recall after starring with 30 disposals and three goals in Casey's 35-point win.

Scorpions coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Kennedy had fitted in seamlessly since being dropped last week.

"The challenge with those guys (that are omitted) is about how they turn up mentally and attitude-wise, and the first thing that Benny was able to do really well was prepare and be ready to play," Plapp said.

"His ability to compete in critical contests … was super impressive."

Plapp said Viv Michie provided clean ball use and won some decisive one-on-one contests, while Jay Kennedy-Harris "ticked a lot of boxes" in his return from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the past two months.



State league affiliate: Werribee (VFL)
This weekend: Werribee v Collingwood - Saturday June 4, 2pm, Avalon Airport Oval

Forward Taylor Garner and defender Lachy Hansen got through unscathed in their first matches since overcoming their respective injuries.

Hansen particularly thrived in defence and was named among his side's best, playing about 90 per cent game time in the 29-point loss.

The 27-year-old missed the past three weeks after being concussed in a crude bump from Williamstown's Cameron Lockwood.

Garner, meanwhile, had not played since injuring his right hamstring against Melbourne in round three.

Omitted midfielder Trent Dumont was the standout Kangaroo and displayed his usual attack on the ball through the middle, while draftee Corey Wagner played at half-forward and was rewarded with three goals.



State league affiliate: Port Adelaide (SANFL)
This weekend: Port Adelaide v Glenelg - Saturday June 4, 2.10pm, Alberton Oval

Alipate Carlile left the ground in the first quarter with what Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley later confirmed was a knee injury that will likely end the experienced defender's season. It was a cruel blow for the Power and Carlile, who was making his way back in the SANFL after suffering a broken wrist.

Brendon Ah Chee was in Port Adelaide's best against Glenelg, after finishing with 28 disposals and two goals in their loss to Glenelg.

Rookie Kane Mitchell had 32 disposals, and former Demon Jimmy Toumpas kicked two goals.



State league affiliate: Richmond (VFL)
This weekend: Coburg v Richmond - Sunday June 5, 11.40am, Piranha Park

Midfielder Reece Conca staked big claims for a senior return, playing a lone hand for the Tigers with 32 disposals (16 contested), 10 tackles and a goal in their 33-point loss.

The 23-year-old, who returned from a hamstring injury a month ago, looms as a like-for-like replacement for injured defender Steven Morris (knee).

Ruckman Ivan Soldo, the cousin of Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric, suffered a heavy head knock in the first quarter and took no further part in the match after being assessed.

The Tigers were kept to just four behinds in the first half and never recovered.

This weekend: Geelong v Sandringham - Sunday June 5, 1pm, Simonds Stadium

Midfielder/forward Darren Minchington collected a team-high 25 touches in his side's thrilling two-point win, followed closely by medium-sized forward Cam Shenton with his 21 disposals.

Meanwhile, luckless midfielder Nathan Freeman was withdrawn from Sandringham's development league match after experiencing hamstring tightness in his troublesome right leg at training on Friday.

Freeman will now have scans to determine the severity of his latest setback



State league affiliate: Sydney Swans (NEAFL)
This weekend: Gold Coast v Sydney Swans - Saturday June 4, 12pm, Metricon Stadium

Sam Reid kicked a goal in his second match for the year in the Swans' 86-point win over Gold Coast.

Xavier Richards continued his good NEAFL form, finishing with seven marks, 16 disposals and six goals straight in wet and wild conditions at Metricon Stadium.

Richards has played as a defender for most of his career, but has spent the past two weeks in the forward line for a total of 10 goals.

The versatile Dean Towers was also prominent with 34 disposals, two goals and nine tackles.

Irishman Colin O'Riordan had his best game, gathering a career-high 29 disposals and kicking a goal.

Aliir Aliir (17 disposals, one goal) and Brandon Jack (28 disposals) were also in the best for the Swans.

This weekend: Footscray v Williamstown - Sunday June 5, 11am, Whitten Oval

Second-year utility Lukas Webb, the No.27 selection in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, and former Lion Jed Adcock (one goal) were named the Bulldogs' better-performed players in their 72-point loss.

Forward Tom Boyd returned from a six-week injury layoff after overcoming a shoulder injury.

Rumour around the club Quinny has it he was dropped to protect him from the ducking controversy which may have legs given he is still only 19. Regarding JS I suspect all three of Keays, Mattho and Jansen may miss a game or 2 as they are rotated.

Jansen I think will be given a fair run.  Actually expecting Keays to be rested this week as he has played all games this year.
