With all we know and don't know about concussions I think Brisbane have a duty of care to rest him. It has to be about the players welfare and not someones SC team.

They're also a business that needs their best team available each and every week. If he's fine and does everything he has to, play him.

What's the point in not playing him if he passes everything exactly the same as the week before next week? Be a waste to bench him wouldn't it

The tests are far from conclusive and teams need to err on the side of caution when it comes to concussion. Nick Riewoldt passed his concussion test a few weeks back but the team doctor deemed that he wasn't quite right and benched him for the rest of game. So the doctors know the tests are not the most reliable indicator. Player welfare needs to come before any business needs.

I wonder if this was Grand Final week and Brisbane were playing for a flag, he passed all the concussion tests and was flying at training and ready to go, they would still say "Sorry mate, duty of care, we still better sit you out this one"?

Leppa: "He needs to get through training today. It's not just the tests but you also need to get through the physical elements too."

Also

"He's studying law at the moment. He spent all Monday studying in a courtroom. That's a good sign to see he's with it."

I think even if he is named, he will be a late out.  It was a brutal hit and I've seen players sit out one from much less.

this is what worries me the most as i would be getting a donut due to goldy being my only option and would have already played!

The issue with having no cover is do you wear the zero and save the trade, or does Stef become the Brodie Smith from last year?  Brodie was never the same after his KO and I would fear the same again.  The eternal problem what is a trade worth?  I would go straight to Gawn as not enough cash for Goldie but I'm so torn.

In addition to what Rico said

“If he gets through training, I can’t see a reason why he won’t play.’’

He will play based on this - Justin Leppitsch expects his star bigman to be front and centre when Brisbane play the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium this Saturday. Leppitsch says captain Tom Rockliff should join Martin as an inclusion for the trip south.

Isn't it like 99 times out of 100 the player misses at least one week from a concussion...?
And from far less of an incident than that one.

So there is a 99% chance he ultimately wont play. AFL coaches lie unfortunately.

Ringo

Up to you and we know different people react differently to concussion: (I do not have Martin in SC but do have him in RDT and AF)

But some of the facts that have emerged since the hit to pit in perspective.

1) Stef was up and about after the game singing the team song and shaking hands with May.
2) He had some delayed reaction on Saturday night with headaches and vomiting. (Stayed with the Lamberts for monitoring)
3) Attended his University course on Monday where he is studying Law and spent all day in the courtroom.  No headaches and that would have given me one concentrating for that amount of time.
4) Did some running to increase heart rate with no after effects.  Rested from training.
5) Trained this morning and currently undergoing further concussion tests and awaiting results.

Coaching staff confident he will play if these final tests are passed.

So the basic difference so far when compared to other concussion tests that apart from Saturday night there does not appear to be any lasting or lingering effects.

good point! bris team structure is based around martin so by lying about him playing gives their opposition less time to create a game plan evolving around a much less significant ruckman and his lesser influence on their game plan and midfield structures! makes sense to lie about it i guess! friggen hope not especially if he is a late out which is probably whats going to happen! play the mind game right until the end!

Oppo will be planning for both scenarios. And SMartin as a late out will help them more than anything

All those signs sound good to me Ringo! At least they are travelling to Melbourne, so I guess there's pretty much no chance of a late withdrawal?

I'm not sure we can really compare him to Brodie Smith either, each player will be totally different with this sort of thing.

I guess when the teams are announced, who is named emergency will certainly give us a bit of a hint.
