First Coach Sacked?

Lyon is contracted for so long now... it's hard to see him being paid out.

So unless a premiership aspiring list wants to take the punt, I reckon the Dockers are "stuck" with him (although surely he isn't the worst guy to lead a (mini?)rebuild?)

There is absolutely no chance Freo will sack Ross Lyon.

Has a 5 year contract and would have to pay him out.

They are playing all of their kids now. They know the season is over and will do whatever they can to develop their younger talent and then get draft picks.

Ross has said publicly that they are in a rebuild. They were pretty good against GWS.

My $ for first coach sacked would be Rocket Eade. They suns are playing as individuals and not as a team and it's not getting any better.

I am waiting for Lyon to leave Freo and jump ship to Collingwood after they sack Bucks.
and for Zac Dawson to request a trade to the Magpies shortly afterwards  :P

It's got to be Bucks at this point...

The only reason they haven't fired him yet is because McGuire knows that he will also have to take the rap for his ridiculous succession plan

I don't think this would have ever happened yet, but can a team 'trade' a coach? Like in American sports if you want a coach and he is under a long term contract, the team he is on don't want to pay him out and the coach wants to break the deal he is traded for a draft pick from another team.

He also recruited trash (i.e. Jarrad Grant) from other clubs and players have become worse under him

I think it's a culture problem tbh. When you see mature age players go to GWS, they go for personal + professional reasons but also to support the younger players - they look as though they really want to help build something get (i.e. Griffen, Patfull, Mumford, Stevie J, & Heater). Yes they benefit... but so does the club (the ideal win-win situation when recruiting players).

Conversely, I agree, Gold Coast look like a group of individuals rather than a team. There's the injured players but I can honestly say that (excluding the injured players) Gaj, Lynch, May, & Malceski (he hasn't performed but he really is trying) are the only ones playing for their teammates. A few of the players looks as though they are only there for the paycheck or they are only there for the Gold Coast lifestyle.

The last time they looked like a team was that game against Collingwood in 2014 (McKenna's last season) where, despite losing Ablett, the team lifted to continue their fight to play finals football. I think McKenna got the rap for all the wrong reasons (if Gaj didn't get injured they would have made finals and McKenna would still be there). The day after that game was the day the team died.

I think it's another case of the board of directors acknowledging they made the wrong decision, but need to wait it out with Rocket to avoid the attribution of blame upon them (the exact same situation as Buckley at Collingwood). Then again, Rocket has not been able to field a full strength side since his arrival, so that could be a significant part of it - the lack of effort/interest by certain players is quite obvious though.

They were really convincing in 2014 but obviously players are wanting out and with Prestia & O'Meara yet to extend the signs aren't looking good.

Hardwick for Buckley? ;)

Gotta be either of those two blokes I reckon. Eade my 3rd pick. Hinkley is safe, we have had too much of our top talent missing to be blaming him at this stage. And we are 4-3 with a favourable draw to come, big month ahead.

Reckon you could be right with Rocket mate.
A couple of coaches are on thin ice but Rocket has shot to favourite to be the first i'm thinking.  :-\

I thought Rocket was the wrong choice in the first place!

I'm with ya JB, thought it was a bad choice by the Suns also. Could well be wrong but I reckon Eade's style and system is a bit outdated and passed it.

Think the Suns plans went out the window when Roos signed with Melbourne.  They were always confident of landing Roos.  I personally reckon Roos would have whipped the Suns into a force sdimilar to what he has done with Melbourne (No disrespect to Dees but on paper Suns would have had the better list).

u guys really think Roos would be doing better then Rocket even with the injury list GC have?

think the Rocket criticism is unfair hard to see any coach doing better with the injury list they have had for 2 years

People completely look over this. For a young side they need their best players out there.
Omeara and Swallow haven't played this year, Rischetelli is injured, there 2 key backman are out, and they lost Bennell and Dixon in the off season. They are a decent side when fit, they just don't have any depth. Bit like my mob..

Exactly why the AFL SHOULD have stopped them trading for Omeara and Martin. Why? You all still think i'm mad and stupid but proof is in the pudding! .........

Too much pressure on the young guys to play, perform and stay fit. Which they cant! IF they had a few more big experienced bodies around those kids then they would not only challenge for finals but also probably more likely to actually be out there playing! SHEESH ::)

Also GCS had enough kids already before they went after O'Meara and Martin. It's their own fault! Of course Dumbetriou let it all happen!
