You can't win them all and, other than my top choice, Lewis, and fellow Hawk, Mitchell, last week was a disaster! For those new to the forums, each week I will tell you some statistics on a player's last 3 games, their last 3 against this week's opponent, and their last 3 at this ground. I will also do a quick overview on my thoughts and have a guess at their score for this week. From all this, I'll give you my top 5 captain choices for the week. If I have the time (and they're relevant), I'll get to any requests you have too!

This week I'm going to mix it up by combining "The facts" and "The thoughts" to make it more readable. Feedback is much appreciated!

The facts & thoughts:

Gray
Last 2: 127, 125 (126 avg)
Last 3 against Essendon: 67, 97, 105 (90 avg)
Last 3 at AO: 127, 125, 93 (115 avg)

This guy has started the year with a bang! If not for his lack of forward status, he'd be in plenty of teams this year and a real captain choice. Only thing holding him back right now is his form against the Bombers but they're a different team this year, giving up 6 tons to the Suns. Assuming Port bounce back and win, Gray will likely benefit. Prediction - 125

Wines
Last 2: 124, 87 (106 avg)
Last 3 against Essendon: 97, 88, 90 (92 avg)
Last 3 at AO: 124, 87, 11 (74 avg)

Great game last week but will need a bit more consistency before you give him the C. Prediction - 110

Steven
Last 2: 104, 123 (114 avg)
Last 3 against Collingwood: 138, 72, 75 (95 avg)
Last 3 at MCG: 87, 138, 72 (99 avg)

Don't let last week's game fool you; Collingwood are very injured and will struggle against the Saints. This should bode well for a guy that many are already pinning as a permacaptain for the second year running. Smashed them last year, should do again. Prediction - 120

Armitage
Last 2: 92, 105 (99 avg)
Last 3 against Collingwood: 143, 92, 75 (103 avg)
Last 3 at MCG: 73, 143, 94 (103 avg)

See above. Prediction - 115

Pendlebury
Last 2: 98, 84 (91 avg)
Last 3 against St Kilda: 105, 113, 121 (113 avg)
Last 3 at MCG: 98, 85, 142 (108 avg)

I'm pretty sure he's actually injured and Richmond just made him look ok. Too risky despite how great those numbers look. Prediction - 100

D. Martin
Last 2: 114, 75 (95 avg)
Last 3 against Adelaide: 116, 80, 106 (101 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 111, 98, 80 (96 avg)

One of a very few Tigers to hold his head high this week, he should be good again against the Crows. Prediction - 110

T. Mitchell
Last 2: 143, 132 (138 avg)
Last 3 against GWS: 93, 113 (103 avg)
Last 3 at SCG: 132, 163, 138 (144 avg)

I'm just gonna come out and say it: Tom Mitchell will have the highest Fantasy average at season's end. Quote me on that come round 23! He looks even better this year than he did last year, clearly dominates at the SCG, and isn't half bad against the Giants... So why isn't he my number one? The Giants have given up one (1!) ton this year. Yikes! Prediction - 120

Parker
Last 2: 106, 135 (121 avg)
Last 3 against GWS: 61, 82, 90 (78 avg)
Last 3 at SCG: 135, 55, 112 (101 avg)

Very worried about his average against the Giants considering they've been so stingy so far. Prediction - 90

Ablett
Last 2: 97, 134 (116 avg)
Last 3 against Carlton: 114, 89, 96 (100 avg)
Last 3 at Metricon: 134, 176, 119 (143 avg)

Considering they're not very good (I know, my team is no better), Carlton have only given up 5 tons so far, and 4 of those were to Sydney's long list of stars (and only that 143 to Mitchell was really big). However, GAJ scored 114 on them last time and is absolutely savage at Metricon. He'll get another one here. Prediction - 130

Gibbs
Last 2: 80, 127 (104 avg)
Last 3 against Gold Coast: 122, 104, 64 (97 avg)
Last 3 at Metricon: 104, 64, 142 (103 avg)

Only because I'm sure he was going to be requested, I think Gibbs will ton this week. Prediction - 105

Priddis
Last 2: 67, 137 (102 avg)
Last 3 against Fremantle: 70, 92, 109 (90 avg)
Last 3 at Subi: 137, 129, 124 (130 avg)

Loves playing at home, unless it's against the Dockers. The Dockers are crap so far but you'd have to back them to try a bit harder in the Derby. I wouldn't risk Priddis. Prediction - 95

Fyfe
Last 2: 121, 54 (88 avg)
Last 3 against West Coast: 108, 102, 125 (112 avg)
Last 3 at Subi: 121, 108, 76 (102 avg)

Bounced back last week as many of us thought he would and is good against his cross-town rival. Can't see any reason why he won't put up solid numbers. Prediction - 115

Goldstein
Last 2: 62, 121 (92 avg)
Last 3 against Melbourne: 155, 99, 137 (130 avg)
Last 3 at Hobart: 92, 106, 71 (90 avg)

Biggest 50/50 of the week by far. Those numbers against Melbourne scream a resounding YES until you realise that Leuenberger (57) and Mumford (52) absolutely battled against Gawn so far this year. He's not great down in Hobart and he only scored 62 this week. Flip a coin. Heads, 140, tails, 80-odd... or worse. Prediction - 110

Hunter
Last 2: 130, 108 (119 avg)
Last 3 against Hawthorn: 66, 9 (38 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 130, 108, 124 (121 avg)

Those Hawks numbers look crap but we have to remember he's only in his 4th year. What I'm loving is his numbers at Etihad and that the Dogs play there for another 5 straight weeks. We'll see how he goes against the Premiers but the sky's the limit. Prediction - 115

Johannisen
Last 2: 113, 121 (117 avg)
Last 3 against Hawthorn: 67, 50 (59 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 113, 121, 95 (110 avg)

Very much the same as Hunter but with one year more in the system. Anything could happen with this guy but it's clear he can get the pill. Prediction - 110

Lewis
Last 2: 110, 134 (122 avg)
Last 3 against Bulldogs: 152, 102, 106 (120 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 94, 111, 80 (95 avg)

I expected a bit more out of Lewis last week than 110 (way to cost me $10, Jordan!) and there's a chance Shiels comes back this week which could hurt his scoring. His history against the Doggies is great to see for those that have him but they've held Fyfe and Armitage below 100 in recent weeks. I'd back him but I'm not as confident as I was last week. Prediction - 120

S. Mitchell
Last 2: 146, 124 (135 avg)
Last 3 against Bulldogs: 120, 125, 103 (116 avg)
Last 3 at Etihad: 85, 124, 90 (100 avg)

This guy doesn't age. By far my favourite all time player to never wear the yellow & black. 37 disposals and 6 tackles last week for a cool 146. Until he gets a tag (which won't be coming from the Dogs) you can back him in with confidence. Prediction - 130

Dangerfield
Last 2: 75, 137 (106 avg)
Last 3 against Brisbane: 95, 86, 85 (89 avg)
Last 3 at Kardinia: 76, 68, 111 (85 avg)

Hands up if you had Danger as captain last week! Just kidding, I had Rocky... Anyway, last week was a joke and he usually sucks against Brisbane but Brisbane don't actually have a midfield this week so expect a good game from Danger in his first back home in hoops. Prediction - 110

Selwood
Last 2: 69, 85 (77 avg)
Last 3 against Brisbane: 146, 139, 104 (130 avg)
Last 3 at Kardinia: 140, 125, 146 (137 avg)

BOUNCE BACK TIME! If you, like me, thought Selwood was a good pickup in any form of Fantasy, don't trade him yet. He obliterates the Lions ever since Raines disappeared and his recent home record is stupidly good. Brave pick as C though. Prediction - 125

S. Martin
Last 2: 97, 79 (88 avg)
Last 3 against Geelong: 134, 124, 56 (105 avg)
Last 3 at Kardinia: 134, 124, 56 (105 avg)

Speaking of bouncing back, expect your first ton of the year from this man. Might not be as big as past ones with Zac Smith now at Geelong. Prediction - 110

LAHUG'S ROUGHIES OF THE WEEK!

Well... Ebert sucked last week. Let's try again with two guys this time. In this segment, I'll talk about someone that, partly because of stats and mostly because of gut feeling, I think will go huge this week. It'll usually be somebody that you wouldn't usually give the C to but, if you have him and are feeling brave, might be worth a look.

Merrett
Last 2: 136, 119 (128 avg)
Last 3 against Port: 118, 98 (108 avg)
Last 3 at AO: 98 (98 avg)

I didn't think I'd be mentioning any Essendon players this year and yet, in just round 3, I have one going big! Port's given up 5 tons in each of the last two weeks, Merrett's averaging 128 after two games, and he averages 108 in his two games against Port. Gutsy Prediction - 130

Zaharakis
Last 2: 126, 125 (126 avg)
Last 3 against Port: 97, 118, 115 (110 avg)
Last 3 at AO: 118 (118 avg)

If one Bomber wasn't enough, how about two?! Zaka has started stupidly consistently with a 125 and a 126, and his form against Port speaks for itself! Serious option this week and might be worth trading in with a good record vs. GWS to come next week. Gutsy Prediction - 130

The verdict:
1.   Ablett (130)

2.   S. Mitchell (130)
3.   Selwood (125)
4.   Gray (125)
5.   Steven (120)
5a.   T. Mitchell (120)

Requests:

Hannebery   - Requested by Money, Jalapeno
Last 2: 96, 76 (86 avg)
Last 3 against GWS: 83, 111, 66 (87 avg)
Last 3 at SCG: 76, 117, 119 (104 avg)

Obviously, his 76 was very much due to concussion but the 96 still doesn't look great. My biggest concern here is that Coniglio contained Danger last week (75 points) and will almost certainly tag Hanners (was tagged by Bugg last time they played). He's good enough to fight through a tag and, yet, the 83 last year says he won't always. Prediction - 80

Ebert   - Requested by KingJazza09
Last 2: 79, 124 (102 avg)
Last 3 against Essendon: 101, 87, 135 (108 avg)
Last 3 at AO: 79, 124, 115 (106 avg)

So much for Ebert smashing it last week! I think his low score was very much due to his team's abysmal performance. They'll likely get up against the Bombers (kinda hoping they don't though... love me some drama) which means he should return to typical Ebert early-season form. It's way too risky but I'd expect a ton. Prediction - 110

Money

Can I please request Hannas LH!!! Top work as always  :)

HBTD22

GAJ for me. Hasn't disappointed yet this year really, all things considered, and on his home deck vs Carlton hopefully will be good.

KingJazza09

Thanks as always!!
Can you please do Ebert?

Jalapeno

Really torn between Sam Mitchell, Jack Steven and Gary Ablett  :-\ :-\ :-\

Think I might Go Sammy though. He has looked in very good shape, whereas Gazza looks shaky at times last week in my opinion.

Could I also request hanners mate.

I quite like the sound of Gray against the Bombers, he's looked good in two games where Port haven't dominated, so should go well against the Bombers.

I like the look of him too but have way too many areas to fix up so I can't get him in.

Thanks so much mate, much appreciated!

Do you think hanners is playing a different role this year? He doesnt seem to be getting as much footy and it is worrying me a bit. I am unsure whether to sideways with my spare trade before he drops too much more coin :-/

He was concussed in the 3rd quarter of Rd.1 and only played 50% of the total game time which explains his "low" possession game

pommyadam

screw this advice... putting the C on whoever in my team averages the most
welcome to my captaincy Darcy Parish

rd1 was JPK (63) and rd2 was Rocky (24) so anything will be an improvement :P

Awesome thanks mate! He can stay and Sammy Mitchell can be my cap for the week :) Thanks for the write up, always a great read!

EDIT: Decided to go all YOLO and chuck the C on Zaha!!

Koop

Going to go balls deep and captain Zerrett. Wish me luck LH!

Role doesn't look different from what I've seen (only watched his round 2 game) but it just seems like more Swans are getting involved so he might have less regular high possession games (same with JPK). Still think he'll average around 105-110 for the year with the odd big one and odd small one in there.
