A little something I wanted to do last year. But it was a little bit too late. This year, i am a bit better prepared so I'll see how I go in doing a best and fairest for St Kilda for 2016. The voting will be done a little bit differently than your standard 3-2-1 or 5-4-3-2-1. It'll be a 3-2-1 for each quarter. So the max points a player can get for the game is 12 votes.

Game 1, Vs Port Adelaide away.

It was a tough contest throughout the entire game. I was fairly happy with our first 3 quarters. But I did expect Port Adelaide to run away with the game in the last quarter, which they did. But we showed that we could play an attacking game with 1 less key sized player. The stats didn't reflect the score at all. With us winning the hit outs 66-49, and the clearances 61-44. I was a bit disappointed in a lot of our turn overs, from either stupid 1m hand balls or these terrible 15m kicks that went just as high. But for us as a team. I thought we done really well. When we had possession we move quickly and mostly effectively. We got plenty of easy goals just because we were in a much better position than what they were. No luck about it. Just looks like our ability to push back slows us down a little.

A shining light emerged that help us in the center was Sebastian Ross, his first 3 quarters were amazing and still ended up with 30 disposals and help a lot with his tackling and pressure. Next on my list was Tom Hickey, possibly the best game i've seen him play, he dominated Lobbe the whole 4 quarters and really kept us in the game. I'm sorry Tommy, but I wanted you gone at the end of last year... And now I regret that. Now let's just hope you can do this week to week, and perform just as good when Longer comes back from injury. Jack Steven and David Armitage left off where they did last season, with complete dominance, they didn't do too much wrong, even though Steven had 3 effective touches of his first 11. But he turned it up after the first quarter and help us to get well in front during the 2nd and 3rd quarter. And we got a small snippet of what Blake Acres could do in the 3rd quarter, absolutely beast, and I hope he can show that more consistently, if he can he could really rock this competition. Then we got the big 250 gamer in Leigh Montagna, what a gun he is, he can go on for a few more years surely. Ended on 29 touches, 17 by foot and a handful of tackles. He's carrying is just unbelievable!

A few dishonorable mentions, i'm going to start with Jimmy Webster. How do our selectors keep rating this kid? He can't tackle, he can follow his man, and his kicking is average at best. We should be giving players like Wright a go over him, at least he knows how to man up. Next up, even though he got 27 touches, his decision making cost 2 or 3 goals, it's Sam Gilbert. Why do we kick it too him expecting him to do something useful with it? Because he just doesn't... He can find the footy with ease, but opponents don't man up on him because they know he'll flick it off to someone on their team. The last one is Eli Templeton... My god I cannot stand this kids brand of footy, We don't need low disposal wingmen. We need defenders who can play the game properly, drop Eli, chuck Webster (Seeing as they want to keep him in the team so badly) or Savage on the wing and add an extra tall defender like Lee or Goddard.

Game 2 and Game 3, Vs Bulldogs and Collingwood

Not much of a write up this week for these 2 games. As the first game against the dogs was absolutely atrocious. They're were just too quick and strong in every aspect at the game. Gresham needed to be dropped, the 2s will give him time to develop and we will learn from that game.

But with the Collingwood game we looks superb. We finally came back from South Australia to show the Pies who's boss. Nroo was in perfect form yet again. But a concussion to him and also Paddy McCartin put a lot of pressure on our midfielders resting forward to give us a chance, which they did. We only had 1 rotation available when Roberton got injured, so we had Steven and Armitage rest up forward a fair bit, and they both done extremely well. Old boy Leigh Montagna is an absolute star, getting 40 touches today, and Jack Billings is showing why he was voted most likely to break out this year. Still a fair bit to work on, but I can see it being a slightly lighter week at training because the boys are going to be fatigued. Well done.
