There's nothing wrong with doing a corrective trade this week if you've got more than 2 worries. By doing an early trade you might free up 2 next week. What happens if you get a LTI next week and you're committed to doing 2 correctional trades? You're playing catch up the next week. That's what.
Sometimes NAB form, roles of players and planning don't look as they appeared when the real thing starts in R1.
Sometimes sitting on your hands can bite you on the ar$e. Sometimes you'll be glad you ignored those itchy fingers and saved the trades.
If you don't think you've made the right decision or have missed out on a must have then it is okay to trade this week.
It's all well and good for others to say not to but they're not coaching your team. Weigh it up and think about it.
Personally I'm in a good space. My rookies all went okay and seem to be popular picks when looking at other successful coach's teams. That said I don't have BKennedy and I would like to have another look at Hall. They're potentially the two I want. To get them I'm considering trading out Milera and Wines.
It would be foolish to do those trades this week as Hall played against Essendon and it would be good to see how he goes this week against a stronger Freo line up... BKennedy might have a low score... Wines could go huge... Milera could get more of it... And I'll go off the idea.
The other thing to consider though is who else you got/ who you don't and by not dealing with it this week who are you going to be stuck with and who will you miss out on next week or have to pay more for later.
I don't have Papley or Hewett either by not trading this week... And I probably won't... I won't be able to have all the good rooks if they back up. 2 trades doesn't split into 4.
To sum up I suppose I'm saying it's worth trading early on correctional trades to get your team right but know that R1 form isn't the be all and end all.

++1 ^ This.

Totally agree.  I'm in pretty good shape too, but would consider moving Robbo this week if injured and if Fyfe stinks it up again then I may consider moving him next week.  1 side of the story is he's a keeper and will be top 10 by seasons end, but the other side is a trade him out before he drops that 80K, and bring him back when he bottoms out...some might say a waste of 2 trades, but at the end of the day luck plays a massive part in what happens to your team.  I think of fantasy AFL now like the stock market, got to move the ship before it sinks and when it bottoms out pick it back up.  I agree burning trades isn't the best strategy, but it might be the one risk you take that sets your team a part from the rest.

Yeah as much as I'm against round 1 trades I can't argue with enzedder's points. Holding this week you may end up with more pressing issues next week, which is exactly what happened to me last year. Absolutely agree it's everyone's individual team to coach and we're just here giving opinions - I just think that even in spite of last year I would still never trade after round 1.

Jvalles I've been saying for a while that supercoach is an economics game, not a sports game! But again it's about hedging a bet. With Fyfe, the risk is if he doesn't return to form. Even if he doesn't crush it next week, if he's good from week 3 on then you're unlikely to get him at his lowest, and if you do then you'll have to cull some rooks/midpricers early so it's still a loss in some respects. I think the thing people need to decide is whether they back him as a top mid by the end of season, if you're answer is no, trade him, if your answer is yes, hold him.

Some good discussion here, assuming the first comment earlier was a dig... I still scored 2245 so the season is far from gone, however after last season I saved trades for league finals, which was handy as I still had 3 left at prelim time, but hanging on to the earlier mentioned players killed my over all score. The LTI point is s solid one, and the only reason I didn't start benk, etc was due to JS and my thoughts the others had more. While I don't see benk averaging more than 70-75, the fact he ran through the midfield and was effective when fwd should see him hold his spot and role when brayshaw and petrecca return. Mckenzie back seemed to hurt govs scoring too, it wouldn't surprise me to see those two fluctuate against each other this year too. Plenty to think about this week, thanks for all the detailed responses and reasons. With crouch at M8 I can prob afford a few trades early if I stay strong and hold my mids when they dip in form, which is sure to happen.

I just saw that I have 30 trades left.

How cool is that?

It's been a while. I actually might have the same next week. Join me. It will feel even better in a week to see that glorious round number sitting proudly up there.

Judd Magic

If I still have 30 trades by round 3 it will be a miracle with my itchy trade finger. lol

No pressing issues at the moment though. My team is in a good place.

The perfect situation for me this week

Barlow scores well, Greene scores well, Milera scores well, Papley and Hewett have average games/Get dropped for R3
I get no injuries
if this happened im likely to still have 30 trades after week 3

Yeah not happy Jan... Tried one more year of faith in him and this is how he repays me lol
Thinking he'll become Hall

Saving trades is for league-nazis ;D. Have to be aggressive to win the money. Fyfe to Parker almost gives you enough to make an upgrade 8)

PowerBug

If you want to trade after Round 1 I know just the place to go to:
https://fantasy.afl.com.au/classic/

Unless you have an LTI or non playing rookies (As in they MISSED Round 1) then I would not be touching a single thing.
