Hey all!

Need a little help here and thought I'd throw it out if anybody doesn't mind helping with some ideas and anything that they feel as major :).

So for a project I will be doing, I'm going to select a major Australian policy/policy change from 2002 onwards (or anytime after that, like began in 2009). Haven't decided yet and hard to find specific ones so anybody able to think of any (can be nation wide or even state specific)?

Something like that Carbon Tax, the NSW curfew on bars, immigration policies, baby bonus, workplace safety/productivity and things like that. Usually something major or controversial that stuck out, or even something that may have had huge implications. It's quite broad :P.

Any help or ideas are appreciated guys/gals :D.

If you wanna do something different you could look into the change with the Child Dental Benefits scheme which is just changing as we speak

hehe cause im biased :P

Work Choices was hugely controversial

The Australian Building and Construction Commission re-introduction is a very contentious issue at the moment

what's wrong with carbon tax HP?

would've thought that would be an area rich with stuff to look at??

You could use the Stop the Boats and Assylum seekers policy obviously controversial if you want to get into it.

Others you could look at are Taxation and Superannuation changes.

Another one is in the area of child care, parental leave and family benefits part a and b.

more then half the class will do it and would have done it in previous years. It means you have to do a fantastic job to impress a bored marker.

Here one that is current the assholes that want to take away penalty rates.
They can honestly go suck a fat one.

Except for this project, most people already have other things to work on (mostly outside of Aus) :P. But as Holz said, it's been covered quite a bit but I'm still putting it down on the list because it was quite big regardless!

Cheers everybody for the thoughts :). The Asylum Seekers/Refugee policies, Superannuation, Maternal bonus/child care and stuff and Work Choices shall be put down (as I research more on them). Will also look into the Building and Construction commission and child dental benefits scheme, as haven't heard of them before!

Thanks again, and I'm still open to suggestions if anybody can remember others, I shall continue searching through the archives online regardless!

Don't forget Indigenous Australian policy shifts HP.

yeah all the whiners are the company CEOs and other fat cats on 67 figure salaries with massive bonuses for increasing company profits (by taking away penalty rates!) ... ;)

HP, I think the asylum seeker/refugee issue Ringo suggested sounds very interesting - I don't know a lot about it but both sides of the house have created a 'legal fiction' to get around international humanitarian law ... not many media outlets put out stuff on it and current govt policy is to simply shut down any negative or potentially negative publicity to keep the public uninformed therefore ignorant and apathetic to the human face of the issue ...

My mate did an oral on the Eastlink becoming a toll road (originally was stated as toll free) in year 10. We had to pick something that had an article in the paper that we were provided. Once the AFL 3 strike policy was gone (how times have changed) he picked the most random one he could find. It said Frankston freeway so it became the winner. He got a really good mark from memory as well.

Moral of the story, if there is nothing there you're passionate about go with something completely random. It's probably better in most cases because you can look at it with completely unbiased views
